  1. Before the days of smartphones, computer applications were often known as programs or executables(exe). Now they should be referred to as web apps as opposed to phone apps. It is the web apps that the banks are discontinuing. My bank did it a couple of years ago, a right pain in the neck, had to get a new phone as android wasn't high enough version. With fingers like cow's udders I don't like phones much anyway. It is wrong that modern technology can push people where they don't want to go.
  2. A friend of mine did it a few years back and I believe the concession on import duty for returning Thais is subject to having lived outside the country for a certain period of time. Can't remember the time, could be a year. Just going in and out may not be enough, what you may need is proof of residence somewhere else.
  3. It is a bank issue, not a general requirement. If you look in the guidance there is a list of banks where no transfer can be made. The maximum amount that you can send per transfer depends on the recipient's bank. Recipient bank Maximum per transfer (THB) Bangkok Bank Public Company 2,000,000 Kasikorn Bank 2,000,000 Siam Commercial Bank 1,499,999 Other recipient banks 500,000 https://wise.com/help/articles/2932335/guide-to-thb-transfers
  4. I am well aware of that. What is not clear is what each embassy asks people to provide, or what each embassy was asked to verify. I know what the UK government accepted for income and I can see that from the Thai point of view as being inadequate. If embassies insisted, and some may well do, on a document like the UK P60 then I don't see there would be a problem providing the letter.
  5. That is not necessarily the case. I came back on a new passport and just moved the TM30 myself, not a problem. Done a couple of extensions and a few 90 days since then. The first one I did in person as the online wouldn't allow it. Had the same TM30 since 2015 and every visit expect it to be challenged, getting a bit worn.
  6. Never going to happen. Nobody will ever know how the conversation went but my suspicion is the Thais were looking for an indication of net income rather than gross. At the end of the day, a tax liability cannot be construed as income.
  7. That is garbage. How long you have been given to stay in Thailand has no bearing on "how" you live in Thailand. On entry you are granted a visa status for a duration determined by method of entry, it is the duration of that visa status that is extended, or in some cases converted. No permits involved. Some years ago there was a self appointed guru and a band of followers that tried to create a distorted set of definitions based on a misinformed perspective. The last thing we need is a resurrection.
  8. Of course you still have a visa, it just gets classed as "USED". I have to provide a copy of mine every time I go for an extension.
  9. Thailand is listed as having the latest variant so medical facilities will be testing on a routine basis. My niece is a doctor and they have had a lot at her hospital, including the doctors. Think my wife and myself have had it but like many more, will not be in the figures. Since first being recognised in January 2025, the omicron variant has spread to several states across the US, Australia, Thailand and is the most dominant variant in China and Hong Kong. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/covid-variant-nb-1-8-1-symptoms-uk-ni-cases-b2763196.html
  10. And other countries have not already blown the foot off, self harm is far from unique to Thailand. Conflict exists in every government and people should be grateful for the opportunity of reasonably easy long term stays, it is never guaranteed.
  11. Why not pay attention, a post mentioned "freeze in their homes" and a reply turned it into "frozen in their homes", a blatant context distortion. It may come as a surprise to you but "freeze " is the process of going cold, "frozen" is the end state. I also have to assume the word "bias" meant little to you.
  12. You shouldn't change the context, "freeze in their homes" does not equate to "frozen in their homes". Rising winter mortality in the UK is not figment of someone's imagination but different studies will bias the figures to suit the point of view. Someone developing respiritory problems, going into hospital and dying would not be included, although the root cause may have been inadequate heating.
  13. As I said to someone else not something I had heard of. Not surprising really when it is much easier to go to immigration.
  14. As they say you learn something new everyday. I would have thought it would be much easier for most to go to immigration rather than the embassy. i got my yellow book in 2010 and that was ok at the DLT up until 2 years ago when they sent me to immigration for a CoR, think some staff had been transferred from Pattaya.
  15. It doesn't matter what you are confident about, Your "we" should be aware It is against the forum rules to take posts out of context, unless of course your "we" do not understand the difference between ground level housing and condos. The exodus from Bangkok condos to housing estates escalated with covid and has nothing to do with foreigners. The view is nothing more than a misguided sense of self importance.
  16. Certificate of residency is a fairly common document and normally obtained from immigration. I don't think they have ever been available from the British Embassy, it was income certification they discontinued.
  17. It is not about the needs of a tourist. There is an argument from those that want to use the "tourist" umbrella to remain in the country for longer than that a tourist would normally require.
  18. This is the comment I responded to, but you want to start quoting figures on condos. "Plus this will stall the property market unless buyers are buying condos." It would be quite delusional to think foreigners represent 30% of the property market.
  19. Garbage. On saying that, a couple of years ago HSBC did have the audacity to raise the transfer fee from £4 to £5.
  20. Unfortunately they do not want to be smart about it, keep it difficult and deter people from applying for a visa. They cannot control the boats but by reducing visas it looks like they are dealing with the problem.
  21. Not sure how they are going to manage this. It is my understanding that Malaysia is electrified, why they stopped the train in the first place. I can only assume that at PB you get off the train as previously, walk through the platform immigration and get on a waiting Malaysian train for the remainder of the journey. If the Thai diesels are allowed to go all the way through then it will be the rolling stock that was introduced about 2017 which are quite comfortable. I would recommend the first class cabins and your own refreshments. I went down to Butterworth just before the change and yes, the suspension not that great.
  22. When I did the one for Canada, some information was separate so it could be used in subsequent applications.
  23. Your post is garbage. Obviously you didn't bother reading the email I posted previously, so here it is again. Note item 2.
  24. Several large ground level housing developments around me, no shortage of buyers and i doubt any are foreigners. The first development had 2 x 4 storey blocks of condos, they knocked one down and turned it into a temporary car park with "for sale" notice. For some reason foreigners seem to think they have a controlling influence on all aspects of the economy. Just another housekeeping exercise.
