No that is not the case. The message posted by the OP originated from what would appear to be Microsoft security, and that would only happen in respect of a MS account. Microsoft accounts require an alternative contact email address and security messages are sent to that email in case the main account has been hacked. If the OP has no MS account then the message has to have come from a bogus source.

Nothing to do with gmail, message refers to suspicious activity on an MS account. Genuine security messages from MS would go to the alternative contact address.

It is down to the quality of the wood these days. My sister in law has just had her kitchen re-furbished and the walls on that were wood slats. The builder put blocks to waist height and Shera type fence slats on the upper part. The wood that was removed was the worse for wear, much of it warped and cracked and a bit of insect damage. It is a common practice in other countries to apply withholding tax where tax residency is in doubt. As already pointed out you are free to file a tax return and claim any over payment back. I had to verify my tax residency before I could open an interest bearing account with Wise, maybe you would prefer that arrangement.

Why does lazy and incompetent come into it. I am a UK tax resident and the revenue dept say there is no requirement to file a return unless I need to, or are you saying every revenue dept is lazy and incompetent. I just opened the account online using the website. I did get the phone app sometine later but never use it, do everything on the website. The card is very handy, I use it a great deal when travelling.
