  1. A bit like how long is a piece of string. Next month my niece has to go and live in BK for a year and has been looking at condo prices. She will be on the BTS route alongside DM airport and could see availability around 10-12K. Last week she said that prices now seem to have dropped significantly, particularly the high rise.
  2. Indeed, Tories shot themselves in the foot, and now labour. Does the country have to wait until they all do the same. A national emegency should be declared, government stood down and an election called for a unity coalition government.
  3. If the UN didn't have it's hands tied behind it's back, this could have been sorted before it begun. When Russian forces began building up on the Ukraine borders the UN should have been deployed to Ukraine. This is a global issue, not a US or European one. The concept of "might is right" should never be allowed to prevail.
  4. Americans choose to forget that if it wasn't for Europeans there wouldn't be a USA, just another emerging economy.
  5. I got my yellow book in May 2010 when on ME visas, never did a TM30 till 2015.
  6. My TM30 is dated Aug 2015 and been out of the country more times than I can remember, never had a problem. I keep expecting them to say a new one is required, beginning to look a bit tatty.
  7. When you get a new visa, passport history becomes irrelevant. I renewed my passport in the UK and came back on a new visa. When I went for extension all that was in my passport was a single entry stamp and a 9 year old TM30, visa info was separate. I had the old passport with me but it was never mentioned, but based on what was said at the application they were quite aware of my history. I would suggest you ignore the transfer and just go for the new visa when available.
  8. Makes you wonder. Now that the film is finally coming out after years of lawsuits, investigations and two criminal trials, its rollout has been decidedly muted. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/01/movies/alec-baldwin-rust-release.html
  9. There are many variables in the price of food and other products, but some always think there is only one answer. CP may well have turned a loss into a profit but how did they do it, possibly by selling off some capital asset, who knows. i have shopped at lotus for a great many years and since the changeover there has been increases on some products and decreases on others. Tends to even out. One thing is never going to change, foreign sourced products rising faster than local production. We go to the Chatachuk market at Bang Saen on a regular basis and get a large Chang for 65 baht and a meal for 60/70 baht, been that way since the market was refurbished 6 or 7 years ago, before the refurbishment it was 75 for a large Chang. At the end of the day prices are up to you.
  10. Probably the most ridiculous statement on the thread. Nobody wants to push up inflation, it is the curse of prosperity. Higher standard of living can only come from higher prices to pay the higher wages. Foreigners scream at Thailand for better standards and then start whinging at higher prices. People should be careful what they wish for. Apart from external factors, there was an increase in the minimum wage on Jan 1st which is probably now filtering though the food chain, so to speak.
  11. The document was issued in response to the embassies stopping the issue of letters, to be used in conjunction with existing regulations on both cases. You can see in the text above the table it says something like " in the case of family members and retirement". This is the lower part of the document.
  12. You really ought to get out more. I was in the RAF for 14 years and had to attend 2 courts of enquiry. First was a helicopter that crash landed in the desert and the second a Buccaneer that crashed near the Dutch border. Incidents like bird strikes, brake problems, burst tyres etc were almost daily and taken as part of the job. No internet meant no keyboard judgmentalists in those days.
  13. That is incorrect, there is an exception in para 2 of the procedures.
  14. That is quite correct, but should be borne in mind that it only applies in the case of a very first 12 month extension. I got rejected on that basis, IO spotted a previous extension in the passport and said that I had bank account for more than one year. Of course some offices may be less observant than others.
  15. Mayb you can point to the nearest Thai desert. "Boneyard facilities are generally located in deserts such as those in the southwestern United States, since the dry conditions reduce corrosion and the hard ground does not need to be paved." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aircraft_boneyard
  16. Cheers, they were a permanent daily to Heathrow when I gave up on them, too many disruptions.
  17. If there ever is a problem, it will be alongside some significant others, Hillsborough, Bradford, Heysel. etc.
  18. Think there are only 2 direct flights from BKK to UK these days, Thai Airways and EVA Air, not a lot of searching involved if you don't want different planes. Not sure what happened to BA, thought they had put one back on to Gatwick but didn't show up on enquiry.
  19. I have been at it many years and think Skyscanner is now one of the better options. Decide on the flight that suits best and then book with the airline. Many will say there is nothing wrong with agents, but that depends if there is a problem or not. The last tme I booked with an agent, the flight was cancelled. I couldn't get a refund from the airline because it was booked with agent, the agent claimed it was not a cancellation but a reschedule. I had an email saying the flight was cancelled so took them to court, it was settled out of court, but I would never want to be in the same position again. If not bothered about time, Chinese look about cheapest.
  20. Of course everyone wants to jump on what gets said in articles. If there was insufficient pressure to operate the brakes would that be brake failure or hydraulic failure. Keyboard gurus will always have the answer, a court of enquiry is irrelevant.
  21. Of course it does, numerous regions have negotiated or pursued legal channels both successfully and unsuccessfully in respect of claims. Crimea should have done the same rather than the nanny state taking control by force. Indications are that there was probably not the numbers for a legal challenge so Russia makes a grab, and the so called democratic countries stand by and watch.
  22. Did they claim to be civilised?
  23. You perfectly free believe the British overseas territories were not under foreign rule.
  24. It is a sad state of affairs when countries that claim to be civilised are not prepared to move away from that. But then Americans have never really seen the cost of war on their own soil.
  25. You have highlighted how over the years indiginous peoples were beaten into submission to such an extent they do not have any say. Some should remember where they came from when running down Europe. Ukraine however does have a voice which should be heard. There is something like 63 countries that have negotiated severence from dominence by Westminster over the years.
