Indeed. The about 15k sounds interesting. Leads? Tks.
I used to have an apartment in the center of a Marina in Marbella. No amount of double/triple glazing helped me keep the noise out - even if you're on the top floor !
I'd go with move...

If you do a search on design center Bangkok, you should see some very large complexes e.g. Crystal design center. Quite high-end, but they do have a large range. A design center followed by JJ on a Sunday ????
We spent months, or what seemed forever, going to them every weekend to furnish a few apartments.
The above recommendations are also good and can be found in many places.
My wife's not here at the moment so I can't give you exact names.

Wow, it's almost 1/8th the size of Central Park in NYC.
I'm guessing to you Farangs from Europe with your sad, little postage stamp sized parks in your cities it must appear....big. ????
The largest park in London is in fact Richmond Park - 2500 acres - which is three times larger than Central park...

I took a cursory glance. It doesn't seem outrageous, at a less than £19k per annum income requirement. Though I didn't look any further than that; perhaps there are more onerous requirements that the partner has to fulfil.
It's not just financials.
Although the costs for visa applications, NHS insurance (even though my wife already pays N.I. on her wages ) etc annoys a little.
To obtain the ILR will take @5.5-6 yrs.
You then have to apply for a passport - add around 6 months - so from start to finish probably around 6-6.5 yrs. That is a huge amount of time.
In that time your wife is limited in the time she can spend out of the UK - which means you are also limited.
All this, because we want to ensure we can flip between the two countries as we get older. Especially if one of us gets ill.
I believe if you're British your wife should automatically be allowed to live with you from when you are married and be entitled to the same benefits as you. This UK spouse visa process is simply too long.
Why we have to have our lives disrupted for such a length of time is ridiculous.
BTW:
As I used the word benefits( I was talking about the general benefits of living in the UK), I believe a restriction on financial benefits for the spouse for a period of time is acceptable to avoid abuse of the system

all ISO accreditations are a exercise in futility. They are meaningless everywhere. .
Utter nonsense – ISO credentials are NOT an exercise in futility!!
When applied they contribute massively to governance. If you buy a sticker from E-bay I agree,

My wife said the IHS ( NHS surcharge ) fee has gone up again - quite a steep increase over the last 5 years

The UK Home Office has updated all of their "guidance" to include the constantly-changing Covid-19 concessions, not just this one piece of legislation.
This update seems to be more than a section on Covid-19 as the layout is also different.

It seems there is a new version of the UK Visa Financials dated 28 January 2021:
Publication
Below is information on when this version of the guidance was published:
• version 6.0
• published for Home Office staff on 28 January 2021
Changes from last version of this guidance
COVID-19 concessions updated...

Simply not possible re hotel beds. The UK is not really limiting travelers from abroad - one of the main reasons they got themselves in this mess to start with !

Maybe they're using the same excel expertise as the British were - it gets to a certain number and wraps - or once it hits the limit it stops adding one. ????

Covid Self test are avaiable in the UK but they still have to be sent to a lab for the test to be completed. As far as im aware there are no such self test kits that will give you the required certification.
There are blood <deleted> type test but these again are hit and miss and dont stan up for anything except a self un authenticated type test.
I had a leaflet through my door from a private clinic on Chiswick High Road, West London - they do a Covid test with results in 15 minutes. - they didn't mention a price.

It seems different people are affected differently. I asked a few friends both in and outside of Thailand to check, and they reported a blank page as well.
I don't have a subscription to the newsletter. I was trying to subscribe, but that process doesn't work.
This is how the page looks like, just so we're talking about the same thing.
This is what I've got logging on from London for the last 5 days.
I've used different machines and browsers with the same result.
You can get around it, but you no longer see the dashboard main page.

I seldom go to that site. My bookmark is for this address. https://forum.thaivisa.com/
Hi Joe,
Thanks for that, that does work.
It's just not the same as the main website address which I've always used and doesn't give the "dashboard" layout.
Cheers

If you've had Covid - like me ( no symptoms etc ), but tested positive twice 4 weeks apart - does that mean I'm exempt.
Apparently already having had the virus is more protective than the vaccine itself ...
Where do I sign-up for my certificate and badge so can fly back to my apt ?

I'm logged on from London ( no VPN ) and for the last 3-4 days when I log onto the main domain name(https://www.thaivisa.com/) all that can be seen is the LOCAL FORUM list and TECH NEWS list.
All other subject headers are compressed with no "latest list"
I've tried another computer, plus ME,Opera,Firefox & Edge. Same result.
Same result if I log in with my account or just browse the site without logging on.
So I believe an issue was introduced a few days ago.

So you mentioned two countries that do ... Most countries in the west do not.

I use several different browsers, each with a different default search engine, none of them google.Still, I occasionally go direct to google for a particular search and find it to be the fastest and most intuitive, delivering the most relevant results right off the bat. I imagine how much *more* intuitive it would be if I used it regularly and it consequently knew more about me.
However, With search, I’d argue that less is more because the less perfect search engines inadvertently allow for serendipity. Like browsing at a large, less than perfectly organized bookstore; I find unexpected delights that I wouldn’t have using the oh so perfect google that would’ve promptly, unfailingly given me my answer and got me to just move on.
I encourage everyone to use google alternatives, and I encourage google to share some of their largess with the people who, by freely sharing their content, have helped google get to where they are.
*btw, google clearly recognize the serendipity angle with their “I’m feeling lucky” button. But to me, it seems contrived.
Is this like walking into the dentist and asking him to pick a number and saying yes, that's the one I'll have pulled. I usually go in hoping to get what I wanted..

I think you'll find a great deal of the "West" don't look at the date as month first and date second - but the date first and month second - usually followed by a year for a sequence ????

We wrote a cover letter ( in my wife's name ) for both applications, simple one pager detailing Names, backgrounds(work), home in the UK, finances which should have been enough with a one page financial statement to tick it all off.
I don't know whether it helps - after going through the documents we gave in at Croydon ( south London ) - the lady was quite surprised at the amount of documents my wife had prepared & submitted.
I'm sure we'll do the same again.
We've started to look at the last one, and this should be easier I'm hoping.

Always with skin on. I thought only restaurants or an old Auntie would remove the skin for appearance with afternoon tea. The skin is the "good/healthy" bit

What's with the sudden fascination over Chinese New Year?

I once had to do some work for a well known international bank in Singapore, starting CI..
It was my second day sat at my desk trying to get to grips with the task at hand, a huge banging started and I saw everyone standing up - a few mins later a large Chinese Dragon came around the office with large fan-fare. Lasted a while .
Was a great night.
Many places celebrate it. The Chinese influence will continue to grow.
