I spoke to my wife about this tonight, as she is a Buri Ram native, to my absloute astonishment she reacted as if i had told her that the sky was blue, she said this happens all the time and that witchcraft in that part of the country (near Cambodia) is real.

She also tells me of a spell that bar girls have performed on them so as to attract men and make them absolutely smitten with them, although the poisoning is obviously factual the spells about making men fall madly in love with them sounds a bit far fetched, although i've known one or two farangs to totally lose the plot over women from Buri Ram, including just dumping there wife and kids literally over night and running off with a bar girl, might be some truth in them witches spells a?

I think you need to read through a lot more of this forum before you make any kind of decision.

I have looked at the various offerings of housing and frankly I am impressed by quality. Intangibles like bugs and smells are not obvious as are neighbours. Is it difficult to deal with difficult neighbours, I,e, could you call the cops and not have your house burned down later or do you go over and knock and bow and say shut the f... Up... These things I do not ok now but I like the look of the houses. A lot seem to have a lot of air conditioners. Is it bad heat humidity wise. Note that I live in the tropics. My ac bill on the beach last year was about 700 dollars. Fell outside of the subsidy.

Nong Khai is a nice place to live, climate is cool and you can get a decent house on the banks of the Mekhong for under 10000 baht a month if you look hard enough, nice little expat community plus only around an hour from Vientiane, Laos if you get a bit bored and want to go out for the day/weekend.

you would easily get buy on 94000 a month, i have friends who lived quite comfortably there for around 50000 baht a month, so would leave you plenty of money for your trips back to Switzerland.

Easy to make your own smoker here, i used 2 concrete water pipe sections, you can buy these anywhere or if your lucky someone might sell you a couple if there are any surplus on a building project, thats where i bought mine, I stacked on top of each other, piece of corrugated metal as the top, hang the meat to be cured from a bar going accross the top, and have the wood chippings burning on the bottom, once you get used to using the smoker and experimenting with it, the results are brilliant, and costs pennies to make.

Nothing like the satisfaction you get from smoking your own Pastrami, wicked!! (sounds a bit rude that )

Of course i wouldnt reccomend setting one up inside a condo, might get a bit smokie, only made for outside use.

Never bought wood chips, just used whatever I could get my hands on, as long as its a hard wood it works well. Never use a softwood, like cedar or pine, they are to resinous and will ruin the meat.
