My Bangkok Bank visa ATM card should be valid until 2023 but my bank has told me that I can't use the card to pick up money and must apply for a new one, can take several days. Any thoughts, any advice would be welcome. I have a new British Passport but don't have my old one (it wasn't returned to me) don't know if this will be a problem.

Got a new BKB debit Mastercard yesterday (400bht), about 15 mins work in the bank, mainly me signing photocopies of everything, worked in the ATM, tried an online purchase (room with Agoda), payment failed.

Don't know why, paid with my TMB VISA debit card.

In the website of Laos and Cambodia embassy they don’t write that I have to show the name of my child in the tabien baan.. I just want to be sure of it. Is it possible to book for make new visa or i should to be in queue ?

It most certainly is listed as a requirement.

A copy of Thai house registration of spouse / parent or child

Copy of Thai child's house registration book / Bản sao hộ khẩu Thái Lan hợp pháp.

Dunno about Cambodia, they tend to take the money then issue a VISA with VOID written across it.

It's only 30bht to get the kid registered in a house book, why break the law, and cause yourself so many problems?

Thank you for your answers, I have already the birth certificate but the address of residence is my old address in Italy. We didn’t registered yet my daughter in the tabien baan because we are still looking for another place for live.. We just move to Thailand in November 2019.

I believe you'll need to get a Thai birth certificate from the Thai consulate in Italy first.

Do they consider the kid as Italian, and did you need an Italian passport and a VISA for her to be in Thailand?

I'm afraid no Thai house book entry and/or no Thai birth certificate still means no VISA for you.

What's to stop some entrepreneurial guy here offering a temporary gaff and postal address to overseas expats for a cut on the basis of no questions asked and postal address / letter opening service. Not offering just saying !

Offer a postal address to a place with reciprocal pension agreement that they can't easily check.

    Guesthouse in the Philippines

    Farm in France

    etc.

Depending on the current state of Brexit, there's a fair choice.

Just after some info regarding the marriage visa.

I am currently on a non O retirement visa, living in Thailand now for 4 yrs. I live with my Thai partner in Chiang Mai,I follow a guy on YouTube that is married to a Thai lady, but he has to do visa runs. Can someone explain to me the purpose of a visa run if your married to a Thai lady. I thought you would just do your 90 day report, then go to your local immigration office to renew your visa after 12 months.

Are there different types of marriage visas.

The advantages of the non-o marriage VISA over an extension.

No 90 day reporting, no Tm30, no health insurance, no paperwork, no home visits, no lengthy queues at immigration, no 400k/800k in the bank (no proof of finances at all), no re-entry permits, lasts 15 months.

    Disadvantages.

You have to leave the country every 90 days, it costs $200

    PS

I'm not sure what anyone thinks they are 'renewing' (VISA or extension), you are buying a new one, with the same paperwork required every time.

He’ll be born in about 8 weeks ????????

So there's still a bit of time to sort out the basics.

    In order of importance .......

    1. Is the mom registered with the local government hospital for the free birth?

    2. Have you been along for the compulsory disease checks (you and her) yet?

    3. Where's the house book you intend to use for the child?

Would just add, Thai government hospital maternity care is about the finest in the world.

Had 4 kids back in the UK, and they never received anything like the care and attention the Thai hospital gave.

(Both pre and post birth, and almost entirely free)

I had a brief phone chat with a Russel that was recommended in an earlier post. He said when he’s born get his name on the paperwork (in thai) in the hospital and after we can go from there with all your documents and girlfriends documents. This service will then drive all documentation to Bangkok to apply and then they will pick up the passport in Bangkok when ready.

Again it was a brief phone chat so I may have Mis heard/interpreted some bits.

That really isn't the process at all.

Hospital notification of birth has space for 2 names (you and mom) can be in English and Thai.

Thai birth certificates are 100% in Thai, there are places for 4 names on it.

You and mom, baby name, and person reporting birth (which you really really want to be you).

As you and I can see from previous posts, there are people posting all sorts of nonsense.

And there may well be a few, just as ignorant, trying to make some money off you.

My personal policy is, with a document this important, I'm doing it myself.

What a mare! Why would they stop that ???? ok cheers for advice that’s coming in. Ive just made a call to someone who can assist me. I need to get my birth certificate sent from UK which I’m a little apprehensive about (incase it gets lost in the post) first key thing is getting his name on the paperwork in the hospital when born, which also has to be translated into Thai.

    Sounds suspect.

I did mine a few years back when consular services where a bit more citizen friendly, but when I showed up to get a passport and Consular Birth Certificate for mine, the consulate just ticked a box, "original document's inspected' then handed them right back.

Not quite sure what you mean by getting his name on the hospital document.

Hospital just present a receipt that a baby was born to parents xxx (her ID number) and xxx (your passport number) the day after the birth, then you take it along to the Amphur office with the house book, her ID card, your passport (and name in Thai script), and the kids intended name (in Thai script), and they hand you a birth certificate, and the newly updated house book.

Just checked my kids hospital receipt, my name in English + passport number, her name in Thai + ID number, male child and our address. No kids names (which would seem right as the Amphur have veto powers on the kids name)

How long ago was baby born?

Register the birth first with the UK registrar.  They will issue a UK birth certificate which makes getting the passport a lot more easy.

No longer possible, UK Consular Birth Certificates were stopped a year or two back.

Our fine country no longer bothers to register our kids born outside the UK.

  10. Would point out some errors in information posted in previous posts.

    1. When applying for a UK passport outside the UK, no counter signatory is required.

    2. Mothers passport copy, not required (she may not have one).

    3. If mom has no birth certificate (common in Thailand), just a copy of her ID card may be acceptable (I used that one as mom didn't have a BC).

    4. DNA test not required for children of British Citizens in Thailand.

2 million baht is £50,000. If you got yourself into that kind of a pickle in the UK in such a low paying job, you'd probably be sensible to get yourself declared bankrupt and get rid of the debt. Much better than trying to run yaba pills. Is bankruptcy a thing in Thailand?

Forbidden from owning, land, vehicles or bank accounts for 5 years by the court that declared you.
