  1. Check their embassy website. Last time I read it takes many days to get your stamp. How long are you willing to wait?
  2. SCB told me the same thing. Cannot wire to a fixed account. You can wire it to your savings account. But your bigger problem is that the money hasn't been seasoned long enough. Check the requirements for extension at your local IO. Bangkok's CW wants to see a 1 year bank statement showing you had the full fund amount "x" months after your last VISA was issued and "x" months before your extension request.
  3. Do you have another Thailand bank account you can transfer some money to show activity? I assume that requires a Thailand phone number to pass the OTP number to. That complicates things for sure.
  4. I am probably not the most informed person to help you. But I have lived here 19 years and my landlord never submitted a TM30 for me until recently. Never needed one because I was working in Thailand and the Chamchuri office never required it for working foreigners. Now retired, the Bangkok CW office is requiring them. So, my landlord sent me a copy of the online TM30 submission. The owner never went to the Immigration office. I only gave the owner a copy of my passport and latest entry stamp. As for 90 day report...I have read on this forum that the first report must be done in person. Then, after that, they are eligible to do them online. Others here can help me with the details. One more thing. Regarding rental contract. I have rented from the same place for 19 years. The contract expired 18 years ago. Nobody cared until now I need a retirement visa. It is a good idea to ask the owner to send you a new contract every year for immigration purposes.
  5. Reading through all this, I am wondering if us foreigners don't understand the tipping process in Thailand. Reading all these stories just makes me think this way.
  6. I am OK with single entry, assuming I can apply for a re-entry permit if I need to leave the country again while on the Non-O. Thanks.
  7. Does anyone have recent experience obtaining their Non-O Retirement visa from Vientiane consulate? The consulate website lists far less rules than Bangkok CW. Or, are there additional requirements not published? For example, it says nothing about requiring evidence of 800k funds being transferred from overseas. Please share any recent experiences. Much appreciated.
  8. Bob, These are drunk arm-chair generals with nothing else to do with their lives but hurt others for their amusement. Now we know how our children feel everyday they go to school.
  9. I think there is some confusion. Dividend income is treated like ordinary income. If you made 10% dividend income, then you would be taxed 10% of your dividend. However, I understand Thailand does not have capital gains tax on valuation increases of your stock. That is tax free. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
  10. Thank you for posting! Many people opt to rent a car when needed rather than buy. Who would have known this??
  11. Does it take someone who lives here to see the red flags on this one? 1. Lives in Jomtien (Pattaya arena) 2. Does "marketing online" 3. She just happens to be walking around a mall in the afternoon, not at the office No wonder she is approachable. LOL. But I do agree most Thai girls are very approachable. The politeness in engrained into Thai culture. But the truth is that you just don't stand a chance with a normal, middle class Thai girl who isn't on the take unless you live here, work here, and speak Thai. This guy admitted he has been here only 2 months....bars girls love that, most normal Thai's shake their heads.
  12. Current consumption (bought in 6 packs): 2bottles/day = 14bottles/wk = 119 bht/wk = 476 bht/month Refill cost: 300 bht/2.5 month (assumption) Sounds like initial investment would be paid off quickly and a good idea. Thank you!
  13. I discovered this Chaeng Wattana requirement recently when they handed me their "list of requirements". As a person who worked and lived in Thailand for 19 years, how on God's Earth can an upstanding Thailand contributor meet this rule? I understand why it is there, but good, honest people are getting hurt by it. While some have said, "Just talk to the officer", others have said, "Send the money out of Thailand, then back in again." The rule is the rule. Good luck with your renewal.
  14. Thank you for your advice and photo. I like your setup.
  15. I am now consuming 2 bottles a day of those tiny little glass bottles Thailand loves so dearly. Can't get the large 1 liter plastic bottles they have in the West. Would it be worthwhile to purchase a machine to make my own? Will it be cheaper? More convenient? Less trips to the local 7-11 would help. Are the machines on Lazada worth a try? I just worry about cartridge replacements when buying online. I am in the Bangkok area, so I was wondering if anyone has some local experience and where to get replacement cartridges and if it is really worth the initial investment. Thanks in advance.
  16. Grout scrapers. They are very cheap and not labor intensive (grout scrapes off very easy). You are basically removing the top layer, leaving it looking new. I use them all the time and never damaged a tile. Recommend a coat of grout sealer when done (if you can find it in Thailand).
  17. Yes. Because if the rules have changed, people should know. And if the rules haven't changed, and possibly there was a misunderstanding, then someone could possibly help. Sorry you were not able to help.
  18. Update. I followed all your instructions. Employer canceled my current extension. Then I was given permission to stay until last day of employment. But today at CW when I got to the document check station, I was refused an extension based on retirement. When I explained my intension was to change from "extension based on employment" to "retirement", I was told CANNOT. I must leave the country, enter on VISA exempt, and apply for Non-O. Another officer standing at the desk agreed. Nothing wrong with my paperwork. They said I needed to leave the country then reapply for a Non-O. How is it I was told this if others have successfully done it?
  19. Central has a large selection. Both cheap and pricey options. I use induction and love it. However, I noticed my frying pans don't last long before they start to warp. I read online that this happens to pans that are larger than the induction area. They don't get an even heat distribution. Regular pots are fine. I am thinking to invest in a ceramic coated cast iron pan. They are pricey but solves the problem.
  20. Thanks. Unfortunately in my case, I traveled frequently for work for my whole 19 yrs employment in Thailand and never needed to file a TM47. Next week will be my first visit for a Retirement extension. Not sure what is going to happen.
  21. In the case where one must visit Immigration for their retirement extension, but they recently re-entered Thailand from overseas (say last month), a TM47 would not be available for Immigration due to the recent re-entry. I was just wondering if Immigration will be OK with that or have their been examples of a problem due to this situation.
  22. In the case of re-entering the country within less than 90 days, the 90 day TM47 is not available/applicable. Correct? Should one expect any problems at CW?
  23. I was at the 7-11 today and everyone who tries to pay with their phone backs up the line. Cash payers are in and out.
  24. Wills are easy to do in Thailand, once you know the rules on what is required. I paid big money from a law firm for my first Will, but the later revisions I did them all myself with the help of a Thai speaking friend, using the same format as the first. 1. It doesn't need to registered with the local Ampher office, despite many people doing that. Just keep it in a place where everyone can find it. 2. Needs to be signed by 2 Witnesses 3. Need to designate an Executor in the Will. That could be Thai person or foreigner. 4. It will need to go to probate court, so the court will recognize your Executor and give them authority to release the bank funds. 5. The Will must be in Thai language. You can include English but the court will not recognize the English part. That is for you and your foreign friends. One can use the many translation services around to get it correctly translated. 6. Your Thailand Will only covers assets in Thailand. You need a separate Will for anything in your home country. If you do decide to use law firm, I STRONGLY recommend you have the translation reviewed by a few more parties. I found many translation errors in mine that was done by a reputable law firm. I might have missed a few things. But that is basically it.
  25. My AIS phone bills are in English with address. They don't mail them anymore, but the app printouts look the same. Also banks all send me mail sometimes. You are in a tough spot if the accounts are all in your wife's name. Can you get your name on a Tabian Baan? That would work.
