  1. Really hope that action results particularly the ENFORCEMENT of laws. Imagine how many lives would be saved if motor cyclists were targeted to make them follow the laws. Helmets, red lights, one way streets, footpaths, kids in arms, weaving in traffic, illegal turns, roads forbidden, underpasses, under age, no license Etc, etc the list is endless. 80% of deaths on Thai roads are motor cyclists and the saddest aspect is that they are mostly Thai youth. What a waste of valuable humanity.

  2. The "problem" with immigration is not so much the officers as the system. For example to renew I year retirement visa at Chaeng Wattana office. At 8 am 100 m long queue opening time 8.30. Queue jumpers and visa company reps get in first, queue again to get a service number. assume lucky enough to get say # 30, minimum 2 hours wait. First officer does the checking, then refers you to another desk, ten to fifteen minutes wait. Second office check finished, go outside and wait another 10 minutes. That done all approved now for the re-entry visa, back to the "get number" counter get #145. Board shows number 95 being served therefore 50 to go. Wait ! lunch time coming up so every one out, back at 1pm. number up at 2pm but where is the copy of the new visa extension? go outside to get a copy. Two desks required to do the checking, finished at 3pm. Thought ! can I do 90 reporting while I am here ?, NO only 15 days before due date is allowed.

So the question ? why cannot one desk do all the processing?? No need to waste so much time, no need to copy the same document 3 times, better allocation of human resources. Yes yes I know the problem, What would they do with all those people made redundant.

  3. I have seen worse than this. 3 guys (university students) on a bike, no helmets and the policeman kindly picked up a cone and knocked the 3 off the bike. He then kicked the 3 of them in the head. I didn't video it as this behavior is a daily occurrence here in Thailand and highlighting that this would not be appreciated by the police or even Thai people in general. Showing the country in less than a positive light is frowned upon, no matter how true.

Well done ! should be more of this then maybe the bike riders will pay a little bit more respect for the law.

  4. Masterpiece of journalism:

was making a U-turn when his truck was hit in the right side by the motorbike

    ???

And the picture shows the pickup with an unharmed right side as you would expect wink.png

Looking at the remains of the bike it sounds plausible that the lights were off (if working at all).

Sad but true, another of many such accidents.

Happens so often on the countryside and no report will be written.

How on earth can you make the assumption the motorbikes lights were off, rather than the pickup was at fault? I have lost count of the times cars etc just pull out or U turn with no consideration at all to motorbikes. They expect bike to get out of their way.

Bikes should by law be on the inside lane. In this case then no chance of colliding with a "U" turning vehicle. Unless maybe the bike was coming down the inside to also make a U turn but seems unlikely seeing the level of impact with the pick up.

  5. Johnson is a fool, no doubt about it.

Save your ire for the real culprit.

    Offered a referendum because he:

    1. Wanted to head off UKIP

    2. Wanted to appease his own backbenchers.

    3. Thought he was going to lose the GE or at the very least form another coalition which would have been all that was needed to withdraw the referendum.

Spot on! And now Boris sees the job ahead too difficult for him so, pull out. Watch out in the future though when things are "easier" ie others have done the hard work. he will surface again.

  6. The old geezers left a bad inheritance for the Britain's youth. Silly old people.

    HOW AGES VOTED
    (YouGov poll)
    18-24: 75% Remain
    25-49: 56% Remain
    50-64: 44% Remain
    65+: 39% Remain

Hopefully the EU stand strong and also make needed changes to it's organisation. I'm sure EU will take all the best Britain youth inside, while leaves the elderly to UK. Fortunately there is no need to build a wall between EU and Britain.

Yes unfortunately for detractors facts as above speak for them selves, those who will be affected most by the future had the foresight to see strength in unity and the ability for UK to influence EU direction by its inclusion in the bloc. Look forward to the breakdown of United Kingdom to England without Scotland etc. Is England the most innovative nation? No. So what is one of its key strengths?; Center for financial transactions ? Read what these institutions are saying about where they may relocate .

  7. about time.

but... i dont understand why more locals dont currently use such cards preferring it seems to join massive queues day after day just to but tickets.

i have one and zoom past queues... strange

Maybe the next great leap for mankind will be a card that also includes the "easypass and M pass" tolls, And then on to overhead tollway readers that do not require vehicles to come to a (almost) stop. Greatest cause of congestion on the tollways are the toll booths.

  8. There needs to be stricter controls on these mini buses, i.e. compulsory registration as commercial vehicle, annual checks & random checks of vehicle safety & operation, compulsory seat belts, passenger limit. Plus, there driver payment system needs to change, to force speed reductions by drivers. Some years back, was 1 of 12 passengers hurtling along on Bangna Express @ 170k p/h. Told driver to slow just laughed, reported to Police station & nothing occurred.

The Prayut Gov't needs institute program to more strictly control the minibus industry, it's a disgrace. Prayut espouses the principles of caring for Thai people, well, 11 Thai people senselessly lost their lives, so, Khun Prayut prove you care....do something!!

The last thing i would want to wear in an overturned and on fire minibus would be a seatbelt.

Real tough penalties for both drive and company if they are found at fault would save far more lives.

At least a seatbelt give you a chance to survive the initial trauma so you can then try to make an escape before the fire takes hold.

  9. The photo shows some interesting issues. There appears to be a section of the column void of concrete and its not a typical compression failure. There is also very visible evidence of over hydration by the numerous cavities left after curing. The reo has no signs of rust but the concrete has also not bonded to it as you would expect.

The green and pink colour tinge on the surface and beyond which I assume is not the lighting as it is patchy.

Looks to me like a failure caused by a casting void due to over hydration, possibly at the start of a new batch delivery, whereby the load was only supported by the reinforcing until a lateral force, probably thermal movement, resulted in the axial displacement.

In other words, a crap batch of over watered concrete.

Wonder what happened to the concrete test piece, should be taken from every delivery.

  10. Sometimes it is easier to believe a Lie, because the truth hurts. This woman is dangerous and only a fool could not see it !!

Sorry to say but of the two Trump is far more dangerous. No I am not American just someone concerned that a buffoon like him would be entrusted with the "button"

  11. Hit an other vehicle in the rear no matter what you are in the Wrong

Well....A car parked on the side of the bridge which should not have been there unless

it has broken down and the bike driver also in the side lane (where they are expected to be)

but obviously not paying attention. Does this bridge have a hump and blind spot. If she was

parked taking selfies/ scenic pictures she is 50% to blame as far as I am concerned.

It is not always as clear cut as the driver hitting from behind is 100% at fault. What about

a driver pulling out of a side street into oncoming traffic. whistling.gif

The car was correctly stopped in the left lane (often called emergency lane) and thus should not be used for general traffic. Note the continuous line marking the lane. Speculation but motorbike passing on the left of other traffic at a speed that did not allow him to stop come to mind. Is this an isolated case, of course not just another case of a bike rider breaking the law and suffering the consequences.

  12. The video shows what respect Thais have for the law, almost none!! As it says riding a motor bike in the tunnel is against the law,, on the video there is an endless stream of bikes using the tunnel,, and some with no helmets..

Until Thais start to take some notice of the laws or the cops start enforcing them with penalties that hurt,, (not a 300B fine) confiscate their bike for a month, plus a heavy fine. Then they will soon learn...

Until then Thailand will continue to have the second highest number of road deaths in the world..

    Amazing Thailand !!

There are laws and there are laws. For eg, one law states that all vehicles must stop at a red light. The reason for this is obvious and most motorists obey this law. However the law against motorbikes using a tunnel is nonsensical and therefore most motorcyclists do not comply (unless you're a motorcyclist, you won't understand).

You might try to use the argument that if he (the motorcyclist) wasn't in the tunnel, then he would still be alive. That would also be nonsensical as a lot of motorcyclists die whilst not using tunnels as well.

tell me, do you think if he didn't use the tunnel, he would be alive or dead now ?

    YES
