Don't take it for granted.
cool and enjoyed your calm responses. I too had to lower the weight I was lifting after not lifting for 5 years ( Covid gyms closures and I never returned ). My shoulders and knees need time to get stronger. I'm amazed how quickly though the strength is coming back. I've been consistent though and don't make excuses not to lift. I hate it!!!! I now run mostly very slow on my tiny home treadmill at 15% ( at 15% you can buy a cheap treadmill because it uses 1/3 the wattage of running at 0% ). Inclines are joint friendly and the slower pace allows me to watch Netflix and not feel like I'm on a roller coaster. Trying to age well IMO takes a well designed exercise plan that doesn't leave you trashed.

Don't take it for granted.
Anedotal and what about all the non-runners here with banged up knees. Actually rare to find a non-runner here in Thailand over 65 that could even run a mile/1.8k in under 8 minutes without their joints quitting on them. Of all the over 65 runners I know here, all could do that and have a few beers after. I will say this - eventually father time wreaks havoc on us all and running becomes an impossibility. Hasn't happened to even one runner I know over 65 ( about 10 runners - some nearly 80). They are definitely much slower than 20-30 years ago but look great! A couple of them are HEAVY drinkers but the running keeps their metabolic system in check. You're still hanging around so not running has not killed you :)

I get that concern and the calcification was unexpected and maybe with time and more research we will have more answers. The calcification is a more rigid type that is less dangerous than the normal non-runner calcification but still a concern. The joints can be a real issue with taking up jogging when your joints are already damaged or weak. The research shows that life long runners have much better joint health than non-runners.

Don't take it for granted.
You didn't watch the video? Start at 6:00 minutes and you will come to the opposite conclusion. Clickbait title but states at the end the high calcivication did not increase heart attacks in high volume runners and lowers all cause mortality. Also the study was comparing healthy individual to a sub segment of health individuals ( high volume runners ). Nothing new here and these types of studies have been debated endlessly with the usual shrug - increasing exercise volume lowers all cause mortality and "greatly" increases the quality of life.

Don't take it for granted.
Americans would be just as fat if they lived in Japan. We aren't stupid - we would just order three portions. I order two or three portion here in Thailand. I need the extra portion but most don't.

Don't take it for granted.
Wife and I are both around 60 and no concern whatsoever. If I looked like most 60 year olds I know and see here, I would be scared to walk on uneven paved parking lots. Some are literally walking death and I doubt a zombie would touch them. People just give up and hope for the best and depend on meds and docs to keep them upright as they age. So many of the posts here in the health section start with see your doctor when you should be able get much sounder advice internally in 90% of the cases. Sad existence IMO. 90% of the hip breaks for the >60, are tiny falls. E.g, waking up at three AM after a fun night out and tripping over a shoe. This actually happened to someone I'm close to and now this person has struggled for years now to have a normal life. Benefits of staying trim and fit are huge. Great sex among countless other benefits.

Alert. Received a visit from the Local police because I am American.
I don't and assume he would have stated it was immigration police and not the police. It could have been maybe and I shouldn't have assumed :)

Alert. Received a visit from the Local police because I am American.
It wasn't immigration and most likely had nothing to do with immigration. The police seem to be getting instructions to know where foreigners live in their jurisdiction. They have been given a list and in our case it looked to be about 50 foreigners to visit at their homes. Nothing wrong with this and best to comply. THe OP's family seems quite volatile and complicated a simple process for what reason I ask? I got a similar call from the place station a couple months back. A group of police and their friends showed up and laughed with my wife for 10 minutes and took pictures and left. I bet they don't know why exactly they are being told to do this and just guess at the real reason. This type of thing happens all over the world in regards to non-citizens. Why get bent about it? Maybe they are tracking down the Xenophobic expats on this forum that incessantly call Thais Xenophobic and Racist. With any luck they will go black ops and execute them.

The Opportunity Cost Nobody Talks About
Probably right but if the change was forced by government officials outside of immigration that might change things. It is big money for corrupt immigration employees in Pattaya but tiny money in the grand scheme of things. Only about 130,000 retirees on Non-Immigrant O / O-A visas and if one in 10 use agents, that is only ~13,000 agent visas a year.

The Opportunity Cost Nobody Talks About
What immigration office? Ubon told me it has to come from public or private pension which I don't have for another 10 years. They wouldn't even except a retirement account ( IRA for Americans).

The Opportunity Cost Nobody Talks About
I've used agents in the past because it is extremely easy. No bank balance to maintain or balance records you have to supply. Just walk in and give your passport and bankbook and come back in a few days. It is also much cheaper even if you are only getting 3% at your home country bank. It has been about 5 years since I used an agent because I determined it wasn't worth some unforeseen risk in the future. For example, immigration starts flagging individuals that use agents and implements a policy that penalyzes them. The ethics involved with using an agent wasn't a concern but maybe it should have been. I was supporting local businesses and corrupt immigration employees.

The Opportunity Cost Nobody Talks About
If you are truly concerned about opportunity lost by not having it your home country, send half of it back after three months and then increase your Thia bank balance 2 month before applying for your new visa. Now your opportunity cost is limited to 5 months in reards to 800k and 400k for the 7 months. which cuts your cost by ~20-30%. To answer your question - "Curious if anyone else has done similar math." I assume allmost everyone has but most, like myself, don't bother with reducing the cost. Keeping and extra 400k after the 3 month visa regulation lock period is about what I would have regardless of visa regs. I usually use that as part of my spending money until my next visa.

Is Gemini-AI now crapping-out in Thailand? Maybe, elsewhere, too?
What exactly are you working on that caused this frustration? Personally I enjoy the challenges and resovling them. Last night I spent 3 hours with gemini trying to fix an error in application (personal app ) I was creating. At the end I just, gaveup and found a verion of the app that worked 3 hours before Gemini wrecked it. I told Gemini this and it did know that this was the best option. Doubt your issue has much to do with computing power and more to do with AI's complicated large language model that is still funky at times. It prefers clarity , how to say this politely - you can be disjointed, and brief prompts that can be perfected through itteration. Do you use markdown code in your prompts and divide them into sections?

Gemini 3.1 PRO: It’s….”Dynamite Good”...Folks…!!!
Surving alone is slim but I would think a huge money merger makes sense for many players. I bet Elon would love to buy the company at a good price and punish Altman. Too late for Yahoo but if this was 2005 a merger would have made Yahoo a tech player as it was in the 90's.

Gemini 3.1 PRO: It’s….”Dynamite Good”...Folks…!!!
It does - thanks. I get it free because I was chosen a couple years ago for free access. I also have storage but only 100 GB which is all I need. I was bitten 2 nights ago while running at night by a bat. Started my third rabies vacination in 10 years yesterday and just spent some quality time with Gemini asking questions about the number of shots needed. It is ultra conservative with its response considering the risk but after 15 minutes of refining my question and telling it to stop repeating blanket answers, it spit out what I already knew but wanted to see if it would provide the correct answer. I wanted to know what imunity level a person would get with 1 shot if previuosly vacainted. It refused to answer the question for 15 minutes but finally gave in and told me the imunity would be subtantial with one shot but 69% of deaths are caused by those that had less than the recomended shots. Pretty cool!

Thai girl was totally shameless
Hey Freddy, I'm not siding with the person(s) you are arguing with but any conversation with you becomes futile if there is the tiniest of a disagreement. I realized this 6 months ago and stop interacting once you got upset. BTW, that statement about Americans never admitting fault is blatantly false. It is better to realize you're wrong than being right. You don't get this and just double down and rant. I'm done - I know you will give this zero consideration...

Thai girl was totally shameless
He did this also in the PH (can't spell :) with the same results as Thailand. He is becoming increasingly erratic which is a concern I guess. Karma can be a bitchhh. He uses them and they use him with such ease because of his humongous ego. I really think he could keep the "girls" if he was able to spend the 30-60k that would keep them from looking for other punters but I can't grasp the appeal. He demands to look at all the girls phones which I'm sure causes them to lose any respect they may have had at the beginning. Cowardly...

Thai girl was totally shameless
He seems like a decent guy with a huge ego. I still think much of what he is posting is fiction because it is hard grasp that a 55 yo is this emotionally insecure. One of the first threads he made years ago here at AN was almost identical to this thread. He needed the ego boost I assume and started this almost exact thread with a slightly different title. He has been repeatedly cheated on by Asian "girls" by his admission. His ego ignores this fact and convinces him he is more special than all the other guys which is bizarre. He is determined to zone in on young girls that are needy and tries to transform them into mature women with zero success. He has to teach them how to have sex, how to cook, how to clean... He has told us all about their deficiencies. As far as I can tell, every girl he has been with on this continent is working other guys while with him. He knows it and demands to see their phones. Creepy and in my worst moment, I can't imagine I would ever do this even one time. Originally I found him interesting and I still think he has a great sense of humor. I don't dislike him but his behaviour is pathetic and the last few weeks many of his posts are becoming offensive.

Bill Maher is correct
Reread what I posted and if you can't figure it out, I can accept that :)

Thai girl was totally shameless
Dizzy after reading that well written but insane post. You can't be real and not see all the contradictions in the above nonsense. You don't want us to put labels on her but you flippantly do on us. I think you are insecure and having troubles with managing your lust and mistake this pleasure hunt as meaningful. It isn't and will vanish soon enough leaving you looking for the next high. As for all 45 year-olds being ugly and unattractive, that is simply childish. My older wife is so much more beautiful than your 25 year old and it isn't even close. Just because your ego needs a hot 25 year old doesn't validate the mature women are unattractive. I could easily be with a 25 year old and roughly the same age as you and not a chance you are in the physical shape I am. Like you, I'm a good talker that women seem to like. You aren't that unique and think because you are in Thailand where you can buy love young girls attention, impossible at USA prices, you think you are special. I sincerely enjoy your writing style but you need to chill and stop the blanket labelling of others.

Bill Maher is correct
Obviously you forgot to read the original post where he didn't cherry pick. Maher believes the left now prioritizes ideological purity over practical governance and coalition-building, making it harder to defeat what he views as a more dangerous right-wing threat. I disagree with Maher on this and tend to believe the far left is more dangerous and inhibits the democrats from focussing on real dangers of the far right.

China is Winning The Technology Race
The numbers are all over the place depending on the source. My house is solar powered with battery storage at night. I wasn't sure if solar was the answer when I installed the system and still not 100%. Pulling power from the grid is easy and not too expensive. My system should pay for itself in 6 -10 years and it would be hard to install a more budget friendly system than mine. All the dangers of grid power are still there with the addition of an energy plant on on my roof that is very dangerous for workers that are doing anything attached to the frame and there is always the possibility of energy escaping the system and creating a dangerous electrical loop. Then you have the roof itself to deal with and if you ever move the panels the roof takes a beating. Just cleaning them with a brush, isn't roof friendly without expensive reinforced walkways. I decided a few weeks ago to move everything to the carport and reinforce it. Not going to be cheap. With all the above said , happy I did it, but for most, recovering the cost should be secondary and probably isn't going to happen for most but it getting easier every year. I already see early adopters here replacing their expensive batteries that are outdated as well as panels. Not too environmentally friendly.

HPV Risk High for Men, Thai Doctor Urges Vaccination
I agree, I would get it if young. Would have made the long process of clearing it naturedly a non-issue.
