British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
??????????? I am merely pointing out that the post implies that the writer's "pension" (Singular - implying State Pension") has just gone up to £14,500. The full State Pension is £221.40 per week which comes to = £11,500 app., so where does the £3000 discrepancy come from? -
British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand

"Much of the pension money paid by UK government to pensioners resident in the UK is recovered through taxes paid by the pensioners in the UK." Absolute garbage! The pension payments made by the government for unfunded pensions are financed on an ongoing basis from National Insurance contributions and general taxation. So the National Insurance contributions I paid all my working life pay for my pension - NOT through taxes paid by pensioners in the UK, which would contribute an infinitesimal amount to the total. -

''..............my pension is just gone up to £14,500" I suspect that that is not the basic State Pension which is £221.40 per week which comes to = £11,500 app. Are you in receipt of an additional (Works?) pension, or other pensions? -

I'll guess that it all depends on whether she tells them that she's moved again! -

Yet the British Government can find room in the country for thousands of Immigrants who have contributed nothing to the system and get numerous benefits - 2024 figures up to now:- "6,265 small boat arrivals compared to 5,049 in the same period last year, an increase of 24% together, Vietnamese (1,266) and Afghan (1,216) arrivals comprised 40% of the total arrivals in this period and are the top 2 nationalities arriving so far in 2024." (And that's just the "Illegals") Figures for the "legals" are as follows:- "In the twelve months to December 2023, approximately 1.22 million people migrated to the United Kingdom,............." And the amount given by Britain in "Foreign Aid" in 2023:- "In 2023, the UK provided £15.4 billion of Official Development Assistance (ODA). The ODA:GNI ratio for 2023 was 0.58%, compared to 0.51% in 20221." And they can't afford to pay pensioners who live abroad the annual increments that the UK resident pensioners get? SICKENING!!! -

"...what will the powers that be do this time to push Move Forward away?" I'm sure they'll think of something! "Seems to me that the powers that be can't continue to do this forever." Wanna bet? "....new senate membership." "New boss - same as the old boss" (The Who) -

So is that in itself not some kind of "Legal Miracle"? It would be for any "Average Joe"! -

Thaksin has already been the subject of a "Legal Miracle" by avoiding jail on his return from "The Wilderness"! -
Thailand Considers VAT on Imported Goods Under 1,500 Baht

I thought this was already "being considered" a few weeks ago? Or did they have to have a meeting first to discuss what is to be considered? -

Drunken Bar Brawl Leads to Scotsman Being Hit by Car in Pattaya
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
You do know (of course you do!) that a Scotsman is a Brit? As is a Welshman, and an Englishman and people from a certain part of Ireland? The other guy is obviously a Scotsman, because none of the above would be within spitting distance of an inebriated (unexploded!) Scotsman! 🙂 Unless of course he's a Russian! -

Drunken Bar Brawl Leads to Scotsman Being Hit by Car in Pattaya
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
"Heavily inebriated, the Scotsman had an altercation and was left to navigate his way home with a friend. The night took a dramatic turn when witnesses reported seeing the friend push the Scotsman into the street, directly in the path of an oncoming car." A heavily inebriated "unexploded" Scotsman can not be reasoned with - even friends or family are at risk! -
Red Bull Heiress Sues for Defamation Over Son’s Hit-and-Run Scandal
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"I have no idea what the 300 million was allegedly used for. That is your story." Not "my story" at all - it is in the post - as already pointed out "that he used 300 million baht to influence the legal process surrounding his son" You were the one who brought up the matter of compensation - not me, so don't ask me about why the total does not include it - that's "your pigeon"! And you were the one who said that I was hung up because I happened to mention (as a P.S.) that the gentleman making the claim was described as an "heiress". I didn't make a big issue out of it but you did - explaining in detail how easy it is to get genders mixed up during translation. Anyway, I think we have exhausted this topic, so have a nice day and hope your head cold gets better soon! P.S. Hope your head cold gets better soon -
New Tax Rules for Expats in Thailand Spark Concern
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Re your last paragraph, I couldn't agree more. In the UK, my Govt Pension and Work Pension combined exceed the Personal Allowances limit by a small amount, so I have to pay tax on that "excess", and don't see why I should have to pay tax on it again! Another point which may have been made already as I don't go through these posts with a "fine toothcomb", is that any money that I bring into Thailand is spent in Thailand on foods and services which have already had tax added via VAT, and Import Taxes in the case of "farang foods and drinks", so if I am reading things correctly, my money will be taxed by the Inland Revenue in the UK, taxed by the Thai Government twice (via Income Tax and VAT) so theoretically, I will be taxed 3 times on my meagre pension which has been "frozen" (No annual increments) for the last 10 years as I am not resident in the UK. Fair? -
Red Bull Heiress Sues for Defamation Over Son’s Hit-and-Run Scandal
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I mentioned "heiress" as a P.S. to my post, so I wouldn't say that I was "hung up" on it, more a sort of side comment. You are the one that appears to be "hung up" on the situation! "Where is your evidence of someone paying a bribe? People pay compensation for death in this country as a matter of course. As far as I am aware it has been done this way for eons. Why is this person's payment any different?" "The accusations revolve around statements suggesting he used 300 million baht to influence the legal process surrounding his son Vorayuth ‘Boss’ Yoovidhya, who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident." I didn't accuse anyone of taking a bribe, "that he used 300 million baht to influence the legal process surrounding his son" is what is under question, not that it was used as compensation paid to the dead policeman's family. (Maybe you should bring that to the attention of the court, as you also mentioned it to somebody else on another post, it would appear that you are "hung up" on the payment being made as compensation rather than trying "to influence the legal process". " If you know more facts than others (about compensation being paid to the family) please do share them and back it up with why you know it is factual. Most here would be interested in knowing." That is the only comment that I will make to your last statement, as it is totally irrelevant to what I said, and I have no intention of getting into a "fact swapping argument" with you. -
Red Bull Heiress Sues for Defamation Over Son’s Hit-and-Run Scandal
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That's not the point though - is it? What is under question is whether tried to "pervert the course of justice" by offering several million baht as a bribe. P.S. Is "he" an "heiress" as posted in the headline? Very handsome for a woman! 🙂 -

Absolutely ridiculous situation, and just one of those reasons why Thailand will never be taken seriously by the West as a potential "World Player" (Whatever that is?) And did I not see recently that Thailand has dropped down the charts as a potential holiday destination for many people? Also, I wonder whether we would have heard if the money/bribe had been accepted? I think not! 🙂 -
We have a word for people like you (apart from "troll" in my old "home" country which is unprintable here, but I think you will get the gist - if you are as educated as wot you fink you are - "g*b****te". P.S. You are now an Honorary Member on my "Ignored" list - there are not many of you, but it is a select list of well qualified "g*b****tes" like yourself, so you are in good company!

You seem to have great difficulty in choosing a descriptive adjective other than "pathetic" in your replies to posts - that in itself is pathetic! And accusing people of not being capable of giving an answer when it would appear that they are far more capable than you are of posing an original question!
