British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have mentioned this before on here but I was at a Management Training Course many years ago, and the lecturer said that the biggest reason given for being averse to change was "But, we've always done it this way!" Can be applied to many situations! -
British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand

Bet you're a joy to be with at Xmas! Yes, we "make no demands on the NHS until things go pear shaped" unlike the many thousands of people that make demands on the NHS every day - including thousands that have contributed nothing to the system. You could say that we are actually saving the NHS money by living abroad, and because we have paid N.I. contributions all our working lives that we are subsidising these thousands of migrants, but in your eyes that's "tough sh*t" I suppose? You appear to be one of these "I'm all right Jack" type of people, and I hope that one day you find yourself in need of help, and those you turn to say "tough sh*t"! Wonder how you'll feel then, Shylock? -

Similar reaction as Andy Murray gives when he's said to be Scottish when he wins and British when he loses I suppose! -

Sorry - 2 posts got crossed somehow, but you are correct - the Isle of Man is not part of the UK, which probably explains the discrepancy between the State Pension payments, but the poster from there has already explained that. -

I think she will receive her current pension for a period of time (3 months?) and after that time she will get her new pension which will be backdated to the date that she arrived back in the UK. -

Yes, I am afraid it is lost on me! I got my information from a Government website, and Of course it has - the Isle of Man is part of the UK/Britain is it not? -

You may be right, but the writer of the post is from the Isle of Man where apparently they have a higher level of Pension than the rest of the UK. -

"The cost to the UK exchequer would be in the billions of ponds to upgrade those living outside Europe." Total exaggeration and misleading statement ! Quote from the UK Pensions Minister, Paul Maynard in the Financial Times:- “According to the latest estimate, based on data from March 2022, uprating the state pension where we do not currently do so would cost about £0.9bn a year if all UK state pensions in payment were increased to current UK levels.” And regarding "bankrupting the country", have you seen my previous post which shows just how much the UK gives in FOREIGN AID alone? To recap:- "In 2023, the UK provided £15.4 billion of Official Development Assistance (ODA)." So the amount we give away in Foreign Aid would pay for the pensioners increments 17 TIMES! And I won't even go into how much illegal immigrants cost the country, or how much it costs to send support to the Ukraine! So to me, (and OK I'm a biased pensioner), £0.9 billion is a mere drop in the ocean compared to the money that seems to be given away to people who have contributed nothing, zilch, zero to Britain's finances. Personally, I think that as we have the lowest pension payments in Europe anyway, it would help a little to have those increments in place, but obviously pensioners are not very high on the list of priorities of this Government. I wonder if the next one will be any different? -

??????????? I am merely pointing out that the post implies that the writer's "pension" (Singular - implying State Pension") has just gone up to £14,500. The full State Pension is £221.40 per week which comes to = £11,500 app., so where does the £3000 discrepancy come from? -

"Much of the pension money paid by UK government to pensioners resident in the UK is recovered through taxes paid by the pensioners in the UK." Absolute garbage! The pension payments made by the government for unfunded pensions are financed on an ongoing basis from National Insurance contributions and general taxation. So the National Insurance contributions I paid all my working life pay for my pension - NOT through taxes paid by pensioners in the UK, which would contribute an infinitesimal amount to the total. -

''..............my pension is just gone up to £14,500" I suspect that that is not the basic State Pension which is £221.40 per week which comes to = £11,500 app. Are you in receipt of an additional (Works?) pension, or other pensions? -

Yet the British Government can find room in the country for thousands of Immigrants who have contributed nothing to the system and get numerous benefits - 2024 figures up to now:- "6,265 small boat arrivals compared to 5,049 in the same period last year, an increase of 24% together, Vietnamese (1,266) and Afghan (1,216) arrivals comprised 40% of the total arrivals in this period and are the top 2 nationalities arriving so far in 2024." (And that's just the "Illegals") Figures for the "legals" are as follows:- "In the twelve months to December 2023, approximately 1.22 million people migrated to the United Kingdom,............." And the amount given by Britain in "Foreign Aid" in 2023:- "In 2023, the UK provided £15.4 billion of Official Development Assistance (ODA). The ODA:GNI ratio for 2023 was 0.58%, compared to 0.51% in 20221." And they can't afford to pay pensioners who live abroad the annual increments that the UK resident pensioners get? SICKENING!!! -

Drunken Bar Brawl Leads to Scotsman Being Hit by Car in Pattaya
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
You do know (of course you do!) that a Scotsman is a Brit? As is a Welshman, and an Englishman and people from a certain part of Ireland? The other guy is obviously a Scotsman, because none of the above would be within spitting distance of an inebriated (unexploded!) Scotsman! 🙂 Unless of course he's a Russian! -
