Anutin Comments on Cannabis Reclassification Poll
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Anutin concludes, "We must listen to our citizens but also ensure that our policies are based on a combination of public input and scientific evidence. I trust Minister Somsak to integrate these principles in his final decision." "We must listen to our citizens..........." When did he ever? "I trust Minister Somsak to integrate these principles in his final decision." The brown envelope is on its way. Anutin has spent too much time, and invested too much money in the marijuana trade to let it slip through his fingers. Watch this space! -
30,000 Baht Lost Due to Incomplete ATM Deposit in Bangkok
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
".....the "hub" of paper shoveling......." Have to agree! My first application for an extension by way of Marriage to a Thai national involved (coincidentally, a maximum break in snooker!) 147 photocopies!!! And the following year was almost as bad - duplicating the photocopies that I had done the year before (Marriage License, Passport, Wife's ID Card, photographs of the house where we were still living etc etc etc - "Bureaucratic Bumf"!!! -

For "Sad" and "Confused" :- "After the 3 months in jail, a public flogging with advertisement made in the media with his name and what he did. I doubt they would do it again. If they did, double the penalty and so on. If recalcitrant, and continues 4 or 5 times more, put them to death. For "stealing"/ "finding" 30,000 baht? -

How do you know it wasn't? Silly me, if it had been, it would have been pointed out in the article. As there was no mention of nationality (e.g. "foreign couple") one has to assume that the couple were Thai. And if it was a taxi driver, he would have handed it in by now! -
Pit Bull Mixed-Breed Dog Attacks, Seriously Injures Five-Year-Old Girl
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
I wasn't 100% convinced by your answer so I did a quick check on Google, and came up with this more logical explanation:- "In the UK, there was a spate of dangerous dog attacks in the 1980s, many of which involved Pit Bulls. The breed was also used in illegal dog fighting. As a result, the government introduced the Dangerous Dogs Act of 1991, which prohibited the ownership, breeding, and keeping of the breed." -
Pit Bull Mixed-Breed Dog Attacks, Seriously Injures Five-Year-Old Girl
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
To those that are "Confused" by my post, it was to primarily show how dangerous these dogs can be, and secondly, how ridiculous it is, (from a "civilised" point of view) to have a dog apologise to the corpse of his owner that he has bitten to death:- "Sorry I killed you by savagely biting you to death, Boss, I was just having a bad dream"! To be honest, I am "Confused" as to how people can defend these "accidents" - these dogs are bred to be aggressive killers, and no matter how well they are trained/domesticated, they are known to be unpredictable, and can suddenly turn viciously on even their owners/family members who have loved and cared for them. -

Let's put this in perspective, shall we? "The top dog breed in the UK in 2022, as measured by number of registrations, was the Labrador Retriever breed. Some 44,311 retrievers were newly registered in the UK in 2022." Divide the number of Labradors in the UK by the number of dog bites/attacks, and divide the number of Pit Bulls in the UK by the number of dog bites/attacks. Oh, sorry, Pit Bulls are illegal in the the UK - I wonder why? -

Pit Bull Mixed-Breed Dog Attacks, Seriously Injures Five-Year-Old Girl
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Sorry, the article was on ThaiVisa, but I can't find all the details, but this should suffice to prove it's not "B.S"! :- Giant, aged 2, the Pit Bull breed or Ban Dog that savaged its owner to death last week has been taken to his funeral in Pattaya. He took part in a ceremony called "khor khama" in which he apologized to the corpse. -
Pit Bull Mixed-Breed Dog Attacks, Seriously Injures Five-Year-Old Girl
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Yes, the key word here is "unpredictable". A few years ago, a Pit Bull that use to sleep in the same bed as his "master" suddenly turned in the middle of the night and bit him to death, and if I remember rightly, it was taken to the temple a couple of days later to apologise to the corpse!!! Only in "Now even more Amazing Thailand"!!! -

Not again! Pit Bull, or a Pit Bull cross - they are an unpredictable danger to the public and should be banned. "It's never done anything like this before" is too late, I'm afraid - it should be euthanised immediately, as it is now likely to do it again, next time it feels the owner's son is "threatened". -
British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think that you may find that politicians have short memories - 5 years is an awfully long time in politics. However, with an upcoming election, and it looking like the Tories are going to be ousted, it may well be a very apt time to remind them, and ask again! -
British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Slightly off topic, but those whose pension is frozen probably do not get the "Old Age Winter Fuel Allowance", which is fair enough. But just as a matter of interest, I wonder how many people resident in the UK having an income of say, more than £100,000 a year refuse it as they don't need it? -

British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And you conveniently forget - as has been mentioned a few times already - that pensioners living abroad do not claim free NHS treatment etc etc etc I can't be bothered to list them all, but let's face it - if all the pensioners living abroad suddenly returned to the UK, the cost to the Government would be MANY times more than the cost would be for paying annual increments to their pensions!!! "Quite self-centred and greedy really"? I would suggest that that statement could equally be applied to people like yourself that seem to have an "I'm all right Jack" attitude towards UK pensioners that live abroad on frozen pensions!. -
British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"The core of it" is the unfairness of the whole "frozen pensions" fiasco, which I believe is only applicable to the UK, and no other country penalises their own citizens for living abroad while welcoming immigrants with open arms, and gives billions away in Foreign Aid every year - especially as the matter could be easily resolved. From a House of Commons statement:- " BRIEFING PAPER Number 1457, 8 February 2021 Frozen overseas pensions :- 16. Reciprocal social security agreements are not entered into solely with a view to paying annual uprating increases to UK pensioners living abroad. They are not strictly necessary for that purpose as uprating can be achieved through UK domestic legislation… " -
