Hit the nail with the "if you have insurance " bit! But some of us can not get insurance due to our age, or it is ridiculously expensive. Most insurers have "pre existing conditions nor covered" clauses, so in my, and many other people's cases - no point. Also, some insurers will not pay out if you have had the same type of claim before - e.g. I had a root canal filling and porcelain crown treatment and a few years later had the same dental problem - the insurance company would not pay the claim as '"You have made a similar claim before". The Conservative Party have been trying to do away with the NHS for years and replace it with private insurance (for obvious reasons - more money for the Big Boys) The reason why it is in such dire straits IMHO is:- (a) Underfunding and underpayment at the lower end of the nursing scale. (b) Too many immigrants to the country claiming benefits - including free NHS treatment.

People Equally Divided Over Anti-Thaksin Protests Erupting: NIDA Poll
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
"|.....nothing they do will make any difference." Correct, as the Thai people have found out - you can't fight Army Government tanks and soldiers with pitchforks and tractors. And even when you have a "democratic" election and win, there will always be some law or condition that prevents your party from taking office - if there isn't - they will find one or make one up saying that it has been there since year dot, just never used. The only way to bring this Government down is to have it brought down (diplomatically) by another country (ies) e.g. if China and the USA banned all trade and their citizens from travelling here the loss of income would be catastrophic, and if the elite of this country don't have their millions coming in, that's when change will happen! BAHT IS KING!!! -
Social Media Uproar Over New Sanam Luang Sign Showing Two Foreign Women
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Firtst of all they complain about the 2 women sunbathing and say there should be a sign telling tourists that it is forbidden to sunbathe in the temple grounds - they get their wish for a sign and now they complain about the sign! They'll be complaining about the sunshine next saying that it is tempting people to sunbathe! Thin skinned or what? -
Spread the word! More Brits in Thailand can now vote in the UK
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
".......even though many of them do not really deserve it" And many more of them DO! If you have paid your dues ( taxes, National Insurance contributions etc) all your working life then surely you should be entitled to the same benefits as someone living in the UK? In fact many people living in the UK are more worthy of your "do not really deserve it" comment! -
Spread the word! More Brits in Thailand can now vote in the UK
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Oh goody! Now I just need to find an MP who will fight to unfreeze my State pension payments! My previous UK employer gives me increases every year, so why not the Government? And don't give me that b/s about "reciprocal arrangements"! The Government can find millions to look after immigrants to the UK, but they seem unable to find any money to look after the people who have spent all their working lives in the UK and paid their National Insurance Contributions and Income Taxes, who choose to spend their twilight years in another country. The savings they make on not having to pay for medical treatment would probably be sufficient to pay for any pension increments they could pay to the ex pats who live in "non reciprocal countries", but successive Governments don't seem interested in "their own", and pay more attention to the boatloads of foreigners landing on Blighty's shores every day. Could it be that they are wanting to be seen in the eyes of the world as "a caring compassionate country" who will look after anyone who lands on their shores - regardless of religion or nationality - after all they wouldn't want to be seen as racist, would they? -

Mr T could probably arrange for "The Farcemaster General" Brian Rix to write the script for a screenplay of this scenario/farce if he was still with us! Still, it would appear that Mr T is back from the dead - politically speaking of course! -

Once again - certain people being paid for NOT doing their jobs!!! -
I wonder how long it will take and how many more of these incidents (ladyboy = gold = theft) will happen before Insurance companies will refuse to pay out if the insured party is wearing gold in plain view in Pattaya? I also wonder how many incidents it will take before the police either have a meeting to discuss ways of preventing them, as they are spoiling "the image of Pattaya", or will they say "som nam naa", and merely file a report?

Thai Restaurant Operators Ask Government to Unlock Alcohol Sale Hours
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
The lower cost of wine has been talked about and just as quickly forgotten about a few times now! There is no Government Minister in power that sees any benefit to his bank balance by doing it. Compare that with Anutin and the marijuana business! -
Thai Restaurant Operators Ask Government to Unlock Alcohol Sale Hours
sambum replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"We need this as a New Year gift from the Thai government,” Best of luck with that! But I agree - this outdated nonsensical law should never have been put in place in the first place and should have been lifted at the same time as all the Covid restrictions. Apparently it was to stop children buying alcohol on their way to and from school - what's wrong with shopkeepers asking to see their ID cards? And anyway, "Where there's a will there's a way" - if kids want alcohol, they will always find a way to get it, and a stupid 2 - 5 ban in supermarkets won't stop them!!! -

.........“same same but different” ridicules the way Thai people speak English...." Ahh diddums! My Thai wife and I use that expression all the time, and as far as I know we haven't offended anybody yet - quite the reverse - it's usually met with a smile! It's getting bad when you're scared to open your mouth for fear of "offending" somebody - I think the first time I heard it was when Muslims in the UK tried to get Nativity plays at schools banned because they went against their religious beliefs! I have my own opinion on that scenario, but I can not comment on here for fear of "offending" somebody!!!
