At Jomtien it is at desk 8 (retirement) and there is no charge. Be aware that you have to leave your passports there overnite to pick up the next day.

You can get the form and photocopies in the shop next door.

Out of interest what forms are required. I know you have to get a form from the embassy, is there a Thai TM? form as well?

  2. Are you in Thailand now? If so please confirm that you entered on a Tourist visa and what is the date on the stamp when you entered. Are you aware that you can get a single re entry permit to save the date of your entry stamp into Thailand whatever date that is. It may then be possible to enter visa exempt again and if necessary extend by 30 days to give you what you need.

I want to leave Pattaya, my home base, during the busiest two months. I believe December and February are those two months. Of prime concern is how busy the bar areas are.

Dec and Jan are the busiest months, go away then

This naively assumes that a brand new clean passport doesn't trigger another level of review of the applicants bona fides. It's far easier to tell and maintain the truth. Once you start lying, and not declaring any convictions is lying, then one needs to live the lie and risk being caught in the lie and accepting whatever that entails. There's a lot of personal information that's shared at levels way above our pay grade and in this new age of tribalism and nationalism masquerading as 'national security', getting black listed from the UK can have broader repercussions than the 5-year one from Malaysia.

Since that expires soon, maybe defer any travel and visa plans until after that eventuates? However, my ongoing experience of Malaysian immigration indicates that they don't neccesarily keep their database up to date.

In this case I disagree with you. A questionable arrest and overstaying the visa in Malaysia with result in her being denied a UK visit visa. The UK will have no way of checking any Malaysian database even if it is kept up to date. She has nothing to lose by getting a new passport and not declaring the convictions, no one will know. By the way I am not naive about UK visa applications. I have successfully carried out 3 x 1 year applications, a 5 year and a 10 year visa for my Thai wife.

I run my aircon nearly the same as you... 26 (awake) to 27 (when sleeping). My wife prefers 28C all the time in her room. A good unit will drop the humidity fast, so you can feel comfortable at higher settings. I got new Daikin inverter units installed last year and it saved me roughly 1000 baht per month... and that's with running them for longer each day.

Why dont you compromise and share a room, set the air con at 27.5

Sorry, I was assuming BKK when I read the Shangri-La... sorry.

But sometimes It would help to tell the location in the text itself. As I was not checking the forum path...

Well its in the Chaing Mai forum so its safe to assume its in Chaing Mai, dont you think?

My question to the OP. How on earth can you live somewhere infested with ants or any other insects ?? Did you not treat your home immediately to get rid of them ? I would not last one day there. First day in any new home, I clean, look and treat everything floors, drains, etc for a few days. Never had a problem in 38 yrs, even living in a Thai house near a forest on Phuket . There, we put cups of oil or water ( can’t remember) under each bed leg because of the forest and no glass windows.

The first sensible answer in this topic. The OP should get his property professionally treated for termits and pests and lo and behold no ants. Ever since I had a bad termite infestation 8 years ago I  have done this yearly with quarterly top ups and no termites or ants since. Like you I couldnt live surrounded by ants.

  8. I think I probably know the answer to this but posting the question in case there is a simple solution. My wife has a 10 year UK Standard visa based on family visit. In the past if we wanted to go to France for a day trip I quickly obtained a schengan visa for my wife from embassy based on freedom of movement for family members of EU citizens, this was free of charge. Now since Brexit and the UK is no longer an EU member this avenue does not exist.

My question is therefore is there any way around this other than applying for a full schengan visa, having to buy insurance and having to show accomodation. It seems way over the top.

    Pattaya is not Thailand.

The official dates are as quoted by @IvorBiggun2

Up country the celebrations will finish on the 15th.

The Pattaya area is a circus in it's own right - Naklua 18th, Pattaya 19th (which usually means 24 hours non-stop) and Bang Saray 20th.

Pattaya of course is not Thailand. However as we are in the Paataya forum its safe to assume we are speaking about Pattaya. Any comments about dates for Songkran in any other region are irrelevant.

My present extension, the one that was already on my passport when I gave it to the agency for renewal, expires on May 2nd

Why on earth have you left it so late to renew the extension, especially with the Songkran holidays. I did mine 8 weeks early via an agent, I could have done it up to 100 days early. It gives you plenty of time to sort out any problems. The 30 day early rule does not apply when doing it via an agent.
