It has always been the case that once a visa expires, it expires.

Ditto permissions of stay ( which is more likely what the poster meant).

The present amnesty is for people who are in Thailand as tourists or other category of stay which expires while they are in Thailand...and the amnesty is for being on overstay. There has been no provision nor discussion of any provision for extending visa valudity or re entry permit validity of people cutrwntly not in Thailand an people in that situation seeking to return have all been told to apply for new visa.

Which is not all that much harder than getting an extension of stay in country, in terms of requirements.

Fair enough you may well be correct, but nothing stopping them doing something separate for those unable to come back to Thailand to renew their extensions of stay.

She is not a seasoned traveller, we have a 5year old as well so try spending 2 weeks in a hotel room with a 5 year old on your own. I have lived in Thailand 6 years so nearly a permanent resident apart from the odd trip back to the U.K.

Fair comment. With respect to her staying with you in the UK, just make sure she doesnt exceed the terms of her visa and get the relevant extension if required. My wife has a 5 year UK visa and she normally comes back with me to the UK for 4.5 months every May. This year is the 5th year of her visa, we should have gone to the UK in May but BA cancelled the flight. We are going July 9 until hopefully November 2. Even if I cannot go back with her I will send her back alone. She will be applying for a new visa next year, probably a 10 year one, I do not want create problems by her staying too long. I like to leave a 6 month gap between visits.

No, airports do not issue this. You get it from a doctor familiar with your health.

Historically it has been issued for people who have been recently ill, or are pregnant etc.  It doesn't really make any particular sense to require of people in usual state of health and certainly does not accomplish anything.

but any doctor can issue it. It just attests to the fact that you do not have any health condition that would make it unsafe for you to fly.

Its much much more complicated than getting a fit to fly document. You also need a negative Covid 19 test 72 hours before you fly. In my opinion the number of hoops you have to jump through, makes the whole thing totally unworkable.

Myself, my Thai partner of 6 years and our 5 year old are ‘stranded’ in the U.K. her Visa expires thefirst week in September, would we qualify for repatriation, we have a rented house in Pattaya, I have a copy of the rental contract with me.I have emailed the Thai Embassy twice but they havn’t replied.

She is not stranded. She could have registered to come back to Thailand on a repatriation flight weeks and weeks ago. For you its a different matter, how can you be stranded in your home country?

I'm pretty sure quarantine is also free for foreigners who stay in their own home in Thailand, but I'm happy to be corrected on this.

Stand and deliver then. Everyone at this present time (Thais and work permit holders) has to either do state quarantine (Thais only and free) or Alternate State Quarantine (ASQ) very costly. Proposals today will allow some types of foreigners in, but they will have to do ASQ. No they are not allowed to quarantine at home. At the moment thats off the agenda.

    As I see it ..

1 no one believes Thailands numbers , just seem far too low, even if they are correct it just doesnt seem that they are.

2 The UK numbers are wrong , I personally know of at least 8 deaths of other causes that were logged as Covid so god knows how many others were falsified. Before you ask these 8 are numbers from a doctor and a paramedic that I know .

3 Thai government seems to disslike western ferang and panders to China even though most western visitors spend 4 to 6 times more money that the Chinese as most chinese visitors arrive on pre paid holidays and have certain hotels and shops which they frequent where prices as screwed down so little profit made.

4 British government dont care about Thailand as have no trade deals with the country and have little reason to want one as Thailand has little to export other than spouses.

5 even if you can get  into Thailand, most can only go for 30 days and why would you want to spend 15 days of that confined to your hotel room ? Not only that but having to pay £1100 for the privellidge in a hotel that we know would normally cost less than £300 for the 2 weeks.

I am gutted for my wife not being able to see her mum and family for another 6 months so lets hope her mum stays well.

In 6 months time hopefully this will all be over  unless of course there is a 2nd wave in which case we may never be able to travel to LOS again for  quite some time .

All we can do is wait and see .

    1. You are in the UK therefore you have no idea about what steps have been taken over here to eradicate the virus. There are only 51 people in hospital and no cases for over a month

    2. They may have died of other causes but if they had covid 19, the death is logged as one.

    3. Agree

    4. I dont think they dont care its just Thailand is not an important trade partner.

    5. Quarantine is free for Thai citizens, she can visit he Mum on her own.

I cannot imagine anybody thinking that immigration will want everybody to show up on the same day to their 90 day reports. It is absurd to think that. I about 100% sure that they will announce when they are due.

I skipped my report back in April to comply with the advice not to leave home to do anything unless you had to. I would of had another one due next month.

Fair comment, the situation in April was significantly different to what it is now, so in that I agree. For anyone with a report due then its a call that they can make based on their own circumstances. I agree it would be absurd for immigration not to stagger the report dates. However you and I have lived here long enough to know nothing always makes sense over here, best to be aware and do as required.

Another absurdity is that with our two joint accounts, one a savings, and one a current account, we cannot transfer online from the joint savings to the joint current, or vice versa.

So in essence, Krungsri have made joint accounts only operable by ATM or by cheque, or by a visit to the branch.

Many banks around the world are adding extra security to transactions carried out online via a computer. Krungsri might e taking this a step further and stopping online transactions on joint accounts? There are no restrictions when you do a tranasction via a smart phone app, you already will have passed the security. I have apps from Bangkok Bank and SCB, I can transfer money between them in seconds. Does Krungsri have a banking app? Just a suggestion.

Why do you think it will bedlam. Do you really think immigration will want everybody to report at the same time and then again 90 days late?

They will announce when they are due. Probably 90 days after your last report was due.

This is one piece of advice I disagree with you on. As no one knows what will happen with the July 31st amnesty I would suggest if a 90 day report is due before then and is easy to do like online or at Jomtien, then I would suggest you do it before. I had to go to Jomtien last week for a re entry permit (yes I know, why leave) and did both 90 day report and reentry permit in under 10 minutes. I got 2 tickets did my re entry first, no one there, walked straight over to 90 day, 60 seconds later I was out. Easy.

That's not very reassuring, How did you get a refund so quickly, I need to get a refund to buy a new ticket with a different airline

Then you cant be that desparate to leave. My flight with BA has been cancelled twice. I dont need to go to the UK but I want to see my family for a few months. Therefore I look at the schedules, its not that difficult. EVA air fly every Sunday, KLM, Lufthansa fly daily. Qatar operate the 02.10 every day and they are from 2 July adding the 19.25. I think other airlines are starting up too from July including Emirates. I am booked on Qatar on 9 July easy. My BA flight I have simply rescheduled for next year. Surely you cant be that low on funds that you need the refund from Turkish Airlines to rebook another flight? Your will to leave does not seem that great to me, sorry.

I am far from a prude, and, no, I won't give examples to prove it. I fully support re-opening restaurants and bars, along with most other businesses, with reasonable precautions required. But I honestly do not understand how "soapy massages" can be called anything other than sexual activities. Anyone care to counter that?

    Thats a totally different issue.

  12. Yes announcement tomorrow about the enterainment industry, but I doubt very much about the Visa amnesty. I suspect as UJ said it could be mid July at the earliest, however you have to look at their history when they make decisions. Almost every major decision they make, they leave it until the last minute to announce it. Dont be surprised if they leave it until 29th or 30th July.

What exactly are you asking? You have asked for comments on the situation but there is obviously a question you need answering and you have not given it.

There's no "should reopen" July 1. There's been information about a strong possibility, but the problem is the 22 (maybe more now) requirements they released a few days ago. Requirements that are almost impossible to meet and very unfair compared to already opened restaurants. That's what the government will discuss Monday 29.

Actually and you may know this already. There are already loads of places in Pattaya/Jomtien open already, not just restaurants. I wont name the venue but I went out with a pal on Tuesday afternoon for a drink, not once was I asked to buy food, in fact the food service was closed. Very busy and was operating in plain view.

  15. There will be an announcement sometime late on Monday after the meeting or maybe even Tuesday to get the latest from the Province. Many people are expecting a big bang ie all bars/ gogo's will open when given the green light, I can assure you that this will not happen. For example take a large gogo on Walking Street. Its operating costs are huge. When you take into account paying full rent, key money, electricity/water fees, agency fees to get girls to work 1k each girl per day upwards for 50 plus girls. To open you need customers and at the moment they will no way be in the volume required to make opening most gogo's viable. A few bars will open and the Thai Nightclub scene which is huge will get going again, but the Farang venues will stay closed in the main until tourists are back in some numbers.
