In my opinion this makes sense. It will clear out those on tourist visas who simply do not want to leave and were using the previous amnesty to stay longer. There are only a few countries where you simply cannot leave too, being stranded is a rare occurance. I feel sorry a bit for those on single or multi Non O who do a border run to stay long term in Thailand. This option however was always a bit on the edge of breaking the rules. Forcing them down the extension of stay route is the right way to go. I am pleased this happening. The authorities are obviously planning to open the borders soon to more arrival types.

It's been confirmed now. Cabinet has approved it. https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/thai-cabinet-extends-the-visa-amnesty-for-foreigners
So a 2 day old article confirms it does it? Its still not been confirmed. Wait until its in the Royal Gazette and then it will be.

Does ordinary travel insurance in the UK cover $100,000 USD specifically for Covid-19?
Depending on the policy you get 5 or 10 million ££££ accident and emergency cover. Medical expenses for Covid 19 is covered under that section.

FYI I managed to get COVID 19 health insurance for 12 months for 14kTHB
Why are you paying so much? In the UK you can get an ordinary travel insurance policy that covers Covid medical costs under accident and emergency.

Face facts, people cannot be trusted to self quarantine in their own places unless a personal guard on the door is supplied. Ankle bracelets don't prevent this, maybe deter. There have been a couple of incidents recently whereby this has proven to be folly.
I must admit, a hotel breakfast for 2 weeks complete with butterflied deep fried cheap hot-dogs and snotty undercooked fried eggs disgusts me too.
Well they are going to have to do something at some point. What do you suggest, keeping the country closed forever, thats unworkable. At some point if they are going to allow tourists they are going to have to relax some of the measures for the people currently allowed into Thailand to create space in the system. If they start to allow Ellite visa holders, people on retirement extensions etc, where is the extra capacity to quarantine going to come from.? The answer is strict home quarantine like other countries with strict penalties if you break it.

Lol so funny. Thanks for opening up this thread and your life for all to see. It sure goes a long way to explaining some of your comments on other threads.

Thailand was a far safer and better place for the average Thai under Thaksin. For those rich ones living in Bangkok its different. Thaksin was good for Thailand.

I have read it needs to valid for at least your length of stay in the country. I assume that mean if you had a non-o visa it would be 90 days or if on a extension using a re-entry permit it would be until it expires.
Thanks UJ, yes that makes sense, do you have a source or a thread I can refer too. I think the insurance aspect of obtaining the certificate of entry is one of the easiest parts to cover, people just need to look into it. Of more concern is obtaining the Covid test within 72 hours.

The requirements in the UK were:
1) Declaration-spouse of Thai
2) Copy of Passport
3) Copy Passport Visa Page
4) Marriage Certificate
5) Copy of Wife’s Passport
6) Health Insurance Certificate (with confirmation of Covid-19 cover up to (or over) $100,000)
7 ) Letter stating reason to return to Thailand
As someone who has done a lot of the leg work already. Do you know what the length of the insurance policy has to be to cover $100,000 for Covid 19. In the UK most insurance companies will now cover Covid 19 under accident and emergency cover. This cover is normally £5 or £10 million. Surely its just a case of taking out a travel insurance policy for say a month or 2 and you are covered? Just asking your view.

The equivalent of 100K USD insurance WILL DESTROY THE THAI ECONOMY, starting with the Tourism Baht!!! 1 week, 2,3,4,5 weeks, however long a vacation anybody wants in Thailand, the insurance cost will be from !,700 AUD to 7/8,000 AUD, NO WAY tourists pay that, especially Pensioners = impossible for them! Companies all over the world will also be very hesitant to pay for such policies. Cambodia has a 3K deposit, return when leaving. Even that is too expensive!
Check insurance policies it may not be as bad as you think. Insurance for Covid 19 does not have to be agreed Thai insurance like a Non OA visa. In the UK there are many companies offering affordable travel insurance and cover for Covid 19 is included as standard under accident and emergency for no extra charge.

Two weeks ago, after a successful 365 day extension of my retirement visa at Phayao I/O, I applied for and received in 30 min. a multiple entry re-entry visa, as I normally do every year, so I can travel in and out of the Kingdom as I need. No problems and usual fee (1900 Baht)
so far as I know this does no give me any special exemptions from the current restrictions on entry.
Now visiting UK with no return date. waiting until I can come back to Kingdom as normal.
Final warning: Beware Heathrow. Chaos at Immigration, with no attempt at Social Distancing. Likely your best chance of becoming infected with Covid.
100% correct. Anyone in Thailand with a valid permit/extension of stay can apply for and get a re entry permit that is valid to use once the borders open for you to use it or you qualify for one of the allowed categories now. Like you I arrived back into the UK last week for various reasons, family, house, medication. Plan to return with my Thai wife in November, but I realise that may not be possible. As you said Heathrow is chaos. We arrived at T2 at 06.30 and there is only 1 officer per queue plus the e gates. No social distancing. Many people not completing the online mandatory government passenger locator form, every time this happens the IO takes them away to complete and have to wait for a replacement. UK is very strange people scared of thier own shadows.

They’re not really a rip off...
45,000 baht for 15 nights = 3000 per night - including 3 meals a day, 2x Covid tests, daily nurse checkups (temp checks).
I checked the price and my ASQ goes for 2000 baht per night normally - so not a huge markup.
It is if you have a property in Thailand where you could quarantine yourself. There has to be a way via a tracking device that this could be an option. This ASQ is a complete rip off.

If you would have read the thread, that has been well documented .
Its well known that flights back to the UK /Europe have been continuous and didnt stop because of Corvid , some of us prefer to stay in Thailand, rather than to go home
Personally I dont blame you but that is not really what the amnesty is for. I hope they do a bit of investigation and only give any further extensions to those who really cannot go back. Anyone else it should be adios, it will speed up getting things back to normal in my honest opinion.

I am not going to read all the comments but just to add that there are many flights out of Thailand now, especially to the UK. My Thai wife and I arrived in London on Friday from Bangkok via Doha, 24k return. The trick will be getting back in without spending a fortune and doing 14 days quarantine. Here is hoping that its history by then. Those on the amnesty are not all stuck in Thailand, some are, but many are choosing to stay.

Thanks for that comprehensive reply. Even if they're "not a big deal" to some, to me as a libertarian I feel they're an infringement on my civil liberties.
Yesterday I drove from Bangkok to a beach east of Rayong and back using a different road. First time leaving the province since late March. No checkpoints, no police, it was great. Tons of traffic though.
Why worry about any checkpoints, they are a way of life over here in Thailand. Maybe there was a lot of traffic because it was a holiday, why on earth did you travel yesterday?

I saw the stipulation once again about the $100,000 medical insurance for covid to get in. What company in their right mind would write such a policy? What would the premium be? Enquiring minds...
Most companies cover it under Accident and Emergency, not a problem

I just laugh at the sanctamonious idiots running the UK. They made a complete mess of their own lockdown and now think that they actually have it under control. What a load of nonsense.
So i can visit the UK if i am from Oz or NZ. Last time i looked i didnt see that there was a direct flight from either country to the UK. So at some point the plane must land in the likes of Singapore, LA, Dubai or Doha. What then?
I thought that. However I am not sure if stopping for 2 or 3 hours and changing flights in one of those countries actually counts. Whilst in transit you are airside and dont actually enter the country. Some clarification is needed.

Not correct. I can name Australia, New Zealand, who are not allowing people in. I think there are others too.

This is nothing new. Its been part of the requitements to get a Certificate of Entry for returning Foreigners ever since they announced that the Spouse of a Thai national would be allowed back last week. It was posted by ThaiVisa Sales so basically its an advert.

This is very confusing.
My partner (Thai national) needs to go home to Thailand to pick up her daughter, so she needs to get permission from the Thai embassy and only 200 people a day?I am seeing flights available on sky scanner to leave Aus to bkk so are these flights just going to be cancelled or are they legit?
Contact the Thai Embassy or Consulate near you and enquire about a Certificate of Entry. I know there is a ban on Australian citizens leaving Australia, not sure about foreign citizens. If she does manage to leave she will have to do 14 days state quarantine in Thailand. But even then she will have almost zero chance of getting back into Australia. Good luck
