  1. Decided to give it a trial today. Conclusion it is for Pattaya residents no benefit at all. Longer term the only benefit will be that it can keep traffic off the Sukumvit if people want to pay the toll. Today we entered the road at the bottom of the number 7 highway from Bangkok, its the only access onto it. Got the payment card and drove on a very empty road all the way until nearly UTapao and gave the card back, no charge. There are no exit roads at all, even the one leading down to the Ambassador Hotel at Ban Amphur is closed. Its a great road to bypass Pattaya but other than that its a waste of time for Pattaya people.

Yes, HiSo gated villages only. I believe the government plans to carpet bomb the Isaan-style villages at the first sign of a C19 outbreak, so there's no point in them doing the Thai Chana thing as well, lol.

Lol Hiso gated villages. I have never thought of my village as that. All normal people that live here as far as I am aware. Mind you we do have a communial gym and swimming pool, so that could be targeted. Hiso village so funny what next.

In accordance with the provisions which have actually been in effect for a week now I deposited 46000 for 16 days at the Royal Benja for my gf coming from Dubai, in addition a 100,000 baht medical (refundable) deposit for medical services including death. Also paid 52000 advance for the repatriation flight. So total deposits are 198,000 baht. She is now number 1900 in the que coming from Dubai UAE. Without depositing the funds you Cannot get in the que....Coordination is through the Thai Embassy or consulate in the country of the originating flight. Absurd but that's the procedure.

B*g*er that, I would have told her to wait it out in Dubai. But joking apart, she is lucky to have you supporting her. How do most people afford that amount of money?

    Am I missing the point?!!!

The statement says International tourists will be allowed back into the country from the 1st of July and then goes on to say but it doesn't say when international tourists will be allowed into the country????

    1st July by my reckoning!!!!

Yes you are missing the point. Only people with a work permit and only under very strict insurance and quarantine conditions are allowed back 1st July

$100,000 is not crazy an amount if you're in a private hospital here for any amount of time, a fried of mine was in ICU for one night, they did loads of tests on him coz they had no idea what was happening ( he had two fits ), cost was 150K THB.

Well firstly $100000 is roughly 3.2 million baht. Not 150k baht. Secondly a friend of mine was in hospital with the virus for 14 days and his bill was just over 100,000 baht.

No, it's what it says it is, it's an offshore account targeting expats and other international customers.

The account is in Sterling, it has a UK sort code, my State and Civil Service Pensions are paid directly into it, I can make online payments and transfers to the UK and even set up direct debits, it comes with a Visa debit card.

    Fair enough thanks for clarifying

But the required insurance coverage is to stipulate the covid19 cover to $100,000 usd.

Since January 23 almost every insurance company has removed pandemic from its wording.

I agree with what you are saying, however I have been looking into this. For example the UK government are advising against foreign travel. This basically means that travel insurance is unobtainable at this time until this advice changes. When it does as you correctly stated every insurance company have removed pandemic from its wording. However importantly this is only for general exclusions such as cancellation etc. For Medical and Emergency they are realistic and state that as the virus will still be around for a while, it will still be covered under this section. Have a look I think you will see I am right.

Santander International is aimed at Expats and International customers you do need to present ID but not a UK address.

    From your link

    Expat and International customers

We offer banking and savings accounts for UK expats living or working overseas. We also offer international banking and savings accounts for UK resident, non-domiciled customers. Choose the level of service which is right for you.

Looks like this is a Foreign Currency Account (FCA) offered by many of the major banks. Its not actually a UK banking account where the 2 forms of ID are required to open including address ID. The FCA may meet the requirements of the OP it all depends on his circumstances

I have an insurance with a Thai company it is specifically for Covid trouble is the maximum amount is 100,000 baht for medical treatment and not much more for death . The Thai government want us to have $100,000 $$$$ not 100,000 baht. Can you imagine come August if the borders open foreigners fleeing to neighbouring countries to renew visas only to be denied entry back into Thailand due to not having the new requirements what a way to get rid of all those foreigners who contribute to the Thai economy

Yes I have same insurance as you from Roojai. Agree $100,000 is a crazy requirement even if people can get it, the price will be expensive

When you go the B.A. Website the flights from Heathrow are not direct to BKK with B.A, you have to go to Hong Kong or other places and the flights are with multiple airlines.

Not quite true. There are no BA flights London to Bangkok until 29 and 30 June and yes these are not direct but via Hong Kong. Direct flights are scheduled however from July 1st. Fully expect the flights to be cancelled though as Thailand not accepting incoming pasengers. Unless they come in empty of course.

This wasn't for me but a friend who doesn't have internet. He was booked for a flight on the 7th June with Eva. When he went to the agent they couldn't at the time find any information. So when he told me a  few days later I said I would look on the net. I tried Eva website but no joy. Looked at another couple of sites, still no definite information. So yesterday I tried the font of all knowledge and got the info that he needed. OK

Thats not what you quoted in your opening remarks to the topic. If you go onto one of the flight search engines like Skyscanner you will see the upcoming departures over the next few days, not rocket science.

what i'd do is contact uk banks; send them an email or give them a call, explain the situation and ask what your options are.

alternatively, depending on how much money you're taking about, return to the uk, stay with a family/friend and use their address to open an account, and have a nice holiday too.

You cant do it unfortunately. They are very very strict on address ID.

    Proof of address

    • Current EU/EEA photo driving licence.
    • Benefits entitlement letter.
    • HMRC Tax Notification.
    • Local authority tax bill for the current year.
    • Utility bill (such as gas or landline phone bill) dated within the last six months.
    • Bank, building society or UK credit union statement.
    • UK, EU/EEA mortgage statement.
    • Current UK provisional driver’s licence.
    • UK credit card statement.
    • Tenancy agreement issued by a solicitor, housing association, local council or reputable letting agency.

I use this account with Santander, my pensions are paid into it and I fund my Transferwise transactions from it, I opened it up online from Thailand a couple of years ago.

    https://www.santanderinternational.co.uk/banking/bank-accounts/gold-bank-accounts

Things have changed unfotunately you need identity ID and UK address ID to open any sort of UK account nowadays. Its all about money laundering checks.

  15. I dont know how it works in other countries but in the UK insurers look at what the advice is from the foriegn office about travelling to a certain country. At the moment they are advising against travel to all countries. By definition this means that insurance companies will not insure you for a trip let alone Covid 19. The only option for anyone with a work permit will be to take out insurance with a Thai company at a cost.

Why leave your home to do something you do not need to do.

If you can do them online that is OK. But in person and by mail both require leaving home to do them.

I have already skipped mine that was due in April shortly after the amnesty was first announced due to the advise to stay at home unless it was something you had to do.

I am not concerned about doing my report after July 31st if the amnesty is not extended. I have a lot more faith in immigration setting a schedule than some people with a biased opinion do.

Fair comment. It just depends on personal circumstances. For me the Jomtien office is just across the road from where I go to the gym. Its just a 5 minute process for me, so I plan to just go and get it out of the way in June whilst the office is quiet.

Yup. I just bought a ticket for 3rd of July - Amsterdam -> Bangkok with Lufthansa, their support told me the flight will go. So fingers crossed. Will visit the embassy next week for my visa.

I guarantee that you will not be allowed entry to Thailand, I doubt if you will even be allowed to check in. That is if the flight is not cancelled

    Why?

Immigration will announce when 90 day reports  are due. They certainly will not want everybody to appear on the same day and then 90 days after that. I think it will be done by the month when your last report was due.

I dont very often disagree with what you post UJ but on this occasion I do disagree. Granted the reports do not have to be done and immigration I presume will publish a process in the coming weeks. I feel that if someone can easily do a report online, by post or at the office then they should do so. It takes away any uncertaincy.

It seems that either the journalist or the Thai Government cannot calculate percentages. 128 out of 27000 = 0.047%. Not 0.47% which has been written  in the article.

I hope this is a mistake by the journalist. If this is from the Government, it could explain the reason the state of emergency is until June 30th !!!

Lol you are funny. Its you that cant calculate percentages.
