I wonder if these folk have worked out the persecution of political activity does not sit well with some of their larger trading partners, China will not pick up what they risk losing.

Maybe they pay off the Hopewell case with some of this. Be easier than paying the interest on the oredered settlement.

BANGKOK (NNT) - The spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s office has assured that cuts to the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) privileges by the United States on certain Thai products will not have a significant impact on exports to the country, with response measures already in place.
That is not what the representatives of a number of industries said last week.
Someone needs to get the messaging straight.

He said protestors should recognise that the PM was selected by the majority of people in the country.
Protesters have pointed out that former coup-leader Prayut was selected by a joint vote between MPs and the military-appointed Senate.
As pointed out by the protesters, the PM was not selected by the majority of the people, as Thailand is a parliamentary democracy the PM is selected by the members of parliament (and senators appointed by the previous junta), no matter how many times one watches a US election.

By this he means anything he does not agree with should be banned, poor dinosaur has not grasped that most of the public especially the young'uns understand the digital world better then him.
9 hours ago, snoop1130 said:On the economy, Gen Prawit has urged the MDES to step up digital technology implementation to help the general public generate more income, drive forward the national 5G network and promote the utilization of this high-speed mobile network infrastructure.
This will increase digital literacy, which comes with the side effect the population learns how badly they are treated.

So nothing will change until the party is told what to do.
In other parliamentary democracies there would be a line of contenders all sprooking their abilities to the ones that vote for them (other MP's and senators) and in the press. The process would take anything from a couple of hours to a week, however this is Thailand.

Given only a select few Chinese tourists can come to Thailand, the protests will be having very little effect on the tourist numbers, and a very small impact on the tourism based businesses.
This makes it a perfect time for the protests. The protests are after all a purely internal Thai affair. If they delay them till when the tourists are allowed to come the business owners would have a legitimate complaint.

Some Europeans, after having secured their unemployment benefits, would rather spend the winter sitting on a bar stool, watching the cars passing by and enjoying their fresh exhaust fumes.
This is exactly what Pattaya and a number of other tourist destinations need. A regular customer or collection of customers will do the world of good to many businesses. The trickle down effect of some people being allowed to spend their money in town will help many.

This sounds so much like the "investment visa" that was created post Asian Financial crisis (the one started by Thailand pre-GFC). Buy a condo for more than 3MilB and get a visa. It did put some life into the real estate market at the time. Successive governments effectively killed it.
Just rehashing an old idea.

A number of year ago an agent was trying to sell me a business in Phuket. I said it was a one trick pony of an area. All it needed was the rebellious southerners to plant one or two bombs and the tourists would stop coming and the economy would collapse. His response was to literally put his index fingers in his ears and say "lah lah lah". Would have been funny if it was not so pathetic.
It was a virus not a bomb that proved me right.

Send in your new trade representative Tony Abbott. He will fix it just like he did with Australia's trade negotiations.
While he is there give him back his British citizenship so we can strip him of his Aussie rights.

The Taiwanese pres are not known for their pro-Beijing stance. This can be filed under scare mongering and attempting to get the attention of other countries.

Where are they going to learn critical thinking in the Thai education system?
By the look of things these students have gained that part of their education outside of the formal system and are demonstrating their understanding very clearly.

Originally there were assurances that 95% would be functional. Now it is under half.
Maybe, just maybe, those maintenance contracts need to be renewed, or at least put out to tender close to their expiry. Not the big saving someone thought when they were not renewed.

COVID-19 in Thailand: Situation is under control, don’t believe fake news, says spokesman
in Thailand News

If the government had any credibility with the populace or even their followers the false news claims would not be needed. Unfortunately there is a huge credibility gap between the government and their mouthpieces and almost anyone else.
