I was only half joking about the work permit.

I have been using their dial up package "non stop cafe" for a year now

recently they changed the name of the package to NonstopX5 and droped the price per month by 200 baht to 1,300 baht, the X5 supposedly allows you(with special compression software) to get upto 5X the speed of a normal analog modem.

I have not tried the software, but can say that I think the speed and amount of modem hangups has got worse since they changed over, but it could be the phone line to blame for that.

They have a local POP in Chonburi that's a local call for me 3 baht a time no matter how long the call is, pick one that is close to you and a *999 number for back up. Avoid the 1222 number as it's allways busy.

Overall I would say its not to bad, an ISP ( could do better though) they made a mess of my billing after changing from one package to another but it was sorted out eventully.

And now an old question... does anyone know when ADSL will be available

RDN don't forgot about hiring the local Thai to actually do the work !!! you know what happens if they catch a farlung "working" without a work permit

This has happend since the start with Google but only started yesterday with Hotmail

I can live with it if I have to.

Today for some strange reason, when I call up www.hotmail.com

it is redirected to to the Thai version of hotmail.

I have not changed anything in my browser setting or anywhere else as far as I know.

It's slightly annoying and really I would like to change it back to English does anyone have some ideas how to do that ???

By the way I am using a Thai ISP Ji-Net.

If the satellite "footprint" does not reach northern Thailand

then you won't get a signal, no matter how big a dish you get.

We find that TT&T numbers starting with 3 and 7 have to wait a bit longer another 2 months they said that a year ago.

Yes the larger the dish the smaller the beam width of the dish.

So a bigger dish requires more accurate pointing/alighnment,but will have better gain..

A smaller dish does not have to be so accuratly pointed but has less gain.

for boats at sea you need gyroscopic correction of the Azimuth and Elevation.

My girlfriend has a small internet cafe in Pattaya (Soi Yensabai) just 5 computers. Most of her customers are school kids wanting to play Ragnarok, other than that she has bargirls come to write emails to their "darklings" and helps them write those emails, this is where most of her money is made.

The charge for playing games is 20 baht per hour.

Internet was 1 baht per minute

but now due to competition it is down to 40 baht per hour.

(now she has someone open an internet cafe right next door to her)

ADSL is still not available all over Pattaya and even where it is available the cost is astranomical ..so she still uses a 56k modem.

Today as it is half term for many schools around here she took just over 1000 baht... thats a good day, she opened the cafe from 10 am till 10 pm .To break even she needs to take 466 baht a day.

I had a long wait to get out of Thailand and back in when I did my visa run on the 26th of December.

If it was due to the gambling crack down or just because it was high season I don't know it certainly want a fun trip 12 hours door to door.

Any way the kids where begging as usual so at least some thing don't change

And it didn't rain that day so I count myself lucky.
