  1. I didn't take one, but I think there was a women sitting there with towels, but I'd tell your friend to bring a sarong and just use that to dry off. But when I say funky, I mean FUNKY. If your friend has never been to Thailand before she may be in for a shock. It's more then likely a cold shower to boot. She may be better off finding a cheap place and just check in to freshen up.

    Depends on the person really.

I think it was 5 baht to use the toilet, so many 15 baht to shower. But really I'm guessing here.

  2. Yes, in the main building. If you are looking at the ticketing booths they are on the right, same side as the food court. Now, I've never been in the gents bathroom, but would guess it's the same.

P.S. I can't say about men, but I take a wash cloth and freshen up in the rest rooms in a lot of airports. I would think it's pretty common, especially in Thailand. Wash cloth, liquid soap and baby powder. Fresh as a daisy :o

  3. Spot on Laopo except # 7 when you say most girls want to pay for themselves.

For me anyway, I would much rather have a fella ask me on a date and pay for everything or at least offer too.

Especially in LOS where many people think you have a lot of money because your from another county.

  4. The last post reminds me.

I'm planning on bringing some things over from the states that I just can't get in LOS and can't decide if I should ship or bring on the plane. The thing is, is that I will want to run some errands around BKK before heading down to Phangan.

I thought I saw lockers at the train station, anyone know about that? It might be just as easy to mail the stuff, but it's going to be heavy and the cost to ship is going to be 3 times the amount of the products.

I could also fly down, but again not sure where to leave everything and cost.

    Any suggestions out there

  5. Putting noi or na at the end of a sentence is meant to soften a request to be polite and kop kun as we all know is Thank you.

I try and remeber all these things when I go to BKK and Government offices and putting Ka at the end of my sentences as living on Phagnan, as SBK has stated, everything is very direct and frankly among friends when you put the kop/ka at the end of something you say, it's either because you are pleading or jokeing around with someone.

I always get busted by the Thai people from BKK that live on the island for useing Southern Thai. They think it's crude and are very quick to try and correct the poor Farang girl picking up bad habits. :o

When I first came to Thailand I said thank you all the time and then realized that this is simply not done here when you are the customer.

  6. And back to topic :D

Loveing yourself and getting to know yourself is that most important thing you can do in this life. You come in alone and you go out alone, so you better make the best of it while your here and not sweat the little stuf.

Like finding the perfect mate :o Another, thing I love about Thai people they don't get as caught up in the whole idea of soul mates and all that Bullsh*t. I think it's fantastic that there are people out there who have loveing fantastic realationships that last forever, I wish I was one of them.

But I'm not and chances are most of us are not going to have that type of Love and that's okay and it should be okay.

The more you can walk through this life and be happy with what you have and be honest with yourself the better your life is going to be.

  7. As far as calling people fat, I defer to what Uma said. It's a culture thing, look at the nicknames of Thai people. If people started calling you pig at some point in your life, most westerners would be horrified. If your fat your just fat, Thai people aren't picking on you or judgeing you. Most of us when we are thin are still bigger then most Thais so to call you fat isn't that big of a deal. You just get used to it. And most Thais I know will go out of their way to make a joke about anything.

I hear what your saying Girlx, but are you talking about what people are wearing? I would agree that if you are a women dressed with a little too much skin showing or not wearing a bra, dressed sloppy or one of those wonderful folks that think showers aren't needed in Thailand, then yes, you'll be judged. But I don't see the same issues like I do in the states.

Here it's so bad with what your wearing, what size you are, is your hair the right style, do you have the right street address and your level of good looks plays a huge roll into how much attention you get.

  8. Interesting that you bring this up on a Thailand board, that is people looking at you from the outside and not the inside. One of the reasons that I am moving to Thailand is that my experience is that Thai people do look at me for who I am and not what I look like on the outside.

I think if your a women sitting alone somewhere you may get approached by a Thai man thinking your looking for a man, but if that's not your intention they quickly pick up on that.

Nothing to explain really. Like I said already some people on other boards have made negative comments about people, mostly Thai, that have tatoos and spin fire. I guess I put the alternative lifestyle in there because most people don't spin fire or in your case race. It's not that big of a deal, I just didn't address this in the other boards as it would be off topic. But as you can see, Tatoos don't seem to be a big deal to many of the people here.

And Yes, 10% of the Tatoos out there are bad.

  10. Wow, a lot of people posted in 24 hours. I just saw some re-occuring comments about people with tatoos in another section and felt a little offended by it and was wondering if this was common. But seems like it's not. I'm not spinning fire as, I'm back in the states for a few more months.

    Cheers all

  11. So I know how much everyone hates it when people get off topic so better to start a new one.

Is the general opinion on this board that if you have Tatoos and Spin Fire there most be something wrong with you especially if you are Thai? I have Tatoos and so do most of the people I know. Spinning Fire is fun and the Tourist love it.

Why all the negativity? Men who work in Bars all over the World are known for having many women it's part of the life style. What's the big deal?

  12. Hmmm

Girlx your comment was very strong and the comment about tatoos, struck a nerve in me. But I would agree to a point that for the most part if you do see a Thai girl in a bathing suite in the south there is a very high chance that she is a pro. or a lady boy. But I also would like to add that I have more then once had my Thai friends that are women say, I wish I could wear what Farang girls wear.

The topless thing however, I just find rude. But then again the average person coming to the beaches of Thailand isn't trying to explore Thai Culture or make friends with Thai people.

  13. Yep, seems like everyone stays at Mermaid. Just get off the boat at Big Buddha and have a motor bike taxi run you over to Mermaid. They have rooms for 400 baht w/hot water on the right hand side of the road going towards the airport.

I always just flag down a motor bike taxi in the morning to get me to the airport as well. The only thing I have to say is the last time I stayed there, the water in the bathroom seemed like it had a lot of sulfur in it or salt water.

That was during the big rains, so I hope that's not the case now.

  14. There is a specialty shop in Chawang right off the main road on the way to the raggae pub that has a lot of cheese and yummy western food. There is also another place in Nathon, but I'm one of those people that drives by landmark and I couldn't really tell you how to get there except it is on a side street where a lot of resturant supply shops are.

Steve have you ever gone to Dew Shore Bakery!!! Yummy bread the baker has a schedule of what breads he bakes every week and you can call ahead. He make soft pretzels everyday. This is proper loaves of Rye, Wheat and Sour Dough.

He even does a 100% Rye. Dew Shore Bungalows in Ban Tai on the right hand side of the road on the way to Had Rin. Closer to Thongsala then say 7-11 in Ban Tai.

    A-Roi Maak Jing Jing

  15. What's the average price for a standard fan, bath, bed bungalow? Are these places right in the park. Sounds like you just get the bus to Phuket and tell the Driver to let you off at Khoa Sok. Pretty easy, no?
