Documents required to buy a New Honda Scooter
gomangosteen replied to Startmeup's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Honda ADV 160 There's a Youtube channel Life with Serg he's been touring around Thailand on a Honda ADV 160 - recently Kanchanaburi, Koh Chang, Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son Loop. Hasn't mentioned any problems except a couple of times he's said 'needs more power' but for a 160 he's done some impressive mileage. I bought a Click 160 ABS last month - the ADV was too big for Mrs M and daughter (who'll be using it to get to uni from June, 26km a day). Only 1200km so far, suits our needs OK. Been very happy with the dealer we bought it from, accessories I ordered 19 Dec (incl topbox for uni books etc) - told early January due to NY - arrived/fitted on 26 Dec, had 1000km service / checkup two weeks ago and only charged for the oil, labour free. Unsure when I get to swap the red plate for a white one. -

Young Foreign Man Found Hanged At Koh Samui

Posted yesterday; you're suggesting a clandestine meeting arranged in the durian orchard? -
Yes, seems blame the elephants is the first option. In November 2021 there were six reported fatalities here in Chanthaburi province; I'd say country-wide many go unreported by media, just another hazard of rural life. This month: On Thursday 18 January 2024 22 year old Pongsakorn Nuantanod was killed by elephant/s while he was fishing in the Satoh Yai Canal which forms the provincial border of Chanthaburi and Trat. His body was found on the riverbank along with many elephant footprints. Case solved. On Saturday 6 January there were two other fatalities caused by elephants, in Pong Nam Ron (Chanthaburi), and Kanchanaburi.

Swiss Tourist Attacked by Buffalo Bear While Feeding in Chiang Dao
gomangosteen replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
Thai Daily News states he put his arm into the cage to feed the bear. Also that his arm has been severed below the elbow; different to 'severely injured' as quoted in this report. That photo would suggest the former outcome. -
Documents required to buy a New Honda Scooter
gomangosteen replied to Startmeup's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Check directly with the Honda dealer, though based on my experience as below, they may even be consistent across dealerships/provinces!. I bought a Click 160 last month 19 December (Chanthaburi), at the second dealer I'd been to (first didn't have the ABS model I wanted), not surprisingly both dealers had an identical checklist of required documents. Thai driver licence (no, don't ask why, but it was a requirement - and I'd got my new one on the 15th) Passport - she copied the relevant pages - photo page, visa; I had to sign the copies Letter of Residency from Immigration OR Yellow house book (I had the latter); also copied my pink non-Thai ID card A painless process, while she was doing the copying and completing forms for me to sign (incl insurance) I was being shown the bike and the electronic 'key' system by the workshop technician. Out of there in about 40 minutes. -

She teamed up with the nephew (who did the actual murder) in an attempt to clear millions of baht in debt. They are being held awaiting handover to Makham, Chanthaburi police for further prosecution.

Young Foreign Man Found Hanged At Koh Samui
gomangosteen replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
CSI based on an initial report from Amarin TV Thai media have named him - that's irrelevant here. And that other publication confirmed cctv shows him alone, taking a taxi to the foothills of Tha Sok mountain heading to the plantation. -
I'm surprised the estimated times almost identical, or is that just a calculation based in distance? I'm in Chanthaburi - given a choice I'd take 317 - we often travel that highway to Sa Kaeo. Rayong, Chachoengsao and places in between, tends to have a lot more traffic. Really an either/or situation, believe option #1 would be my preference. Happy travels!

Pink Id card for foreigners
gomangosteen replied to Enquiry123's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Experiences vary. Staff couldn't have been more helpful in my (October 2023) experience; first visit given a checklist of required docs for yellow house book + ID card, and a number to call when ready; I had everything required available just needed to put it in order of their list, attended at the appointed time - they did all the additional photocopying (at no charge) filled out and signed their forms and photocopies. Two nominated witnesses - one my wife's colleague of 10+ years, the other a long-term friend since 2011 who is a recently retired amphur manager - high enough for them to pay him a visit at his home rather than require him to come in. Given another appointment time for when book would be ready to collect, then the fingerprint and photo for issue of ID card. Total cost 60 baht. Top service throughout. -

Honda Giorno vs Yamaha Grand Filano
gomangosteen replied to Dcheech's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
Honda v Yamaha. Our family go-everywhere scooters: Current Yamaha Fino bought new 2013, 94,000km and no signs of impending expiry. Before that a 2008 Fino, sold to a friend at 54,000km and was still running well at 88,000 when she on-sold it. Last month bought a Honda Click 160ABS (in preference to Yamaha Aerox) and hoping it has the same reliability, daughter will be 150km/wk to/from uni. All bikes have had every recommended service, simple and cheap to extend longevity. While Honda has a much bigger market share have never had any problems with Yamaha in the few times parts have been needed. -
"intention was to clearly convey a message to foreign tourists about what is forbidden so that they immediately understand because violation leads to a 500 baht fine." Who are all these permanently outraged Thai netizens? This week a female English tourist was sexually assaulted inside a temple here in Chanthaburi. Perhaps they could similarly install warning signs advising the risks of predatory old Thai men who lurk in temple grounds? For the record, she has chosen not to make a police complaint, after all, what's the point? It would likely be seen as her fault for wearing a dress.

Your opinion of eradication of dogs
gomangosteen replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Dogs. There's a privately run animal rescue shelter (Malee's) 6km from us, rural Chanthaburi. Currently (according to their Facebook page) approx 360 dogs and 60 cats. It was started by an Englishman and his wife, he's now deceased and she has carried it on, supported by donations of food and money for food. Overseas tourists volunteer there. Appears people just dump pups around that highway area knowing that eventually they'll either 1 get run over 2 starve to death or 3 get picked up and taken to the shelter. Don't know how long it's sustainable, or how long she'll have the energy and dedication to keep it going. And if it had to close, what to do with 400+ animals?
