Yes. We travel for sports events mostly just overnight, eg I'm not going to get a new TM30 after one night in Trat next month. But for overseas travel - several years I was short-term contracting out of Thailand - provided a new one each time I came home. I didn't mind the old days travel up to Pong Nam Ron just a little local adventure. I've been dealing with Chanthaburi Immigration since 2011, initially had to travel north to Pong Nam Ron until they opened the Chan town office. This may just be a one-off error by an overly keen IO I've never had any problem with them.

As a cyclist I find these various small electric vehicles one more hazard to cope with, not fast enough for the car lane, too slow for the left motorcycle/ cycle lane. I've seen this yellow/black one on the highway out of our town, competing with trucks, racing D-Max pick-ups etc. there's also a larger four-seater one, minus doors, appears to have a top speed of 20kmh.

No, it's the organisations and sponsors' right to determine where prize money is allocated, and this is set out in conditions of entry. I've been involved in sport at various levels, to semi-professional full-time athlete across NZ, Aust: continued in Malaysia / Thailand, now purely amateur for enjoyment, every event provides rules, restrictions and conditions of entry. I've been ineligible for cash or 'lucky draw' spot prizes at events specific to that country. This is how it is.

All the armchair / barstool athletes here, surprised how many! This morning I competed in a running event, came home with a trophy for age group prize. Prize money was for overall 1st to 3rd male and female in each event, great to see so many talented young athletes in a field of around 900 starters, 1st in the 10km went to a 14yr girl and 18yr boy, both representing their athletic clubs. Understand the main sponsor M-Seven put up 300,000 baht towards the event, supported by local amphurs as the event was to fundraise for Chanthaburi youth athletics. Like a rock concert we started with smoke machines (but I thought the stage was in fire) and fireworks displays at 5.30am. And I got a good cheer at prizegiving, "the man from New Zealand" was apparently the only non-Thai competitor. Very very briefly I had minor celebrity status. Suggest any moaners just read the conditions of entry for any event, set your whinge-o-meter back to zero and don't bother to enter if the organisation's rules bothers you so much.

Sunday I'm running again, I may suggest a special 'good farang' prize for me as they used my image (with consent) in promotional material advertising the race. Bizarre, I don't believe they do 'farang price'. 69,900 (it's the ABS model); aware other dealers charge more but that was the Honda website suggested retail price. Two Honda brand helmets as part of the deal. No complaints on the costs I'm certainly not going to whine about a potential 400b cost. Their service throughout has been A+, got all the accessories I wanted, fitted at no cost, first service done, I'm happy, hoping it is as reliable as the old Fino on 95,476km as at today still in daily use.

Got my extra electronic 'key' yesterday (2023 Honda Click 160). Not just a matter of collecting it though, technician had to program it, about ten minutes. Cost 1000 baht. Also ready - Green ownership book and white registration plate (and a 500 baht refund for the red plate they removed).

Bought a new Fino in 2013, now on 95,000km still running well, new fuel pump last month the biggest expense I've had, otherwise just standard maintenance, tyres etc. Had a 2008 Fino before that, sold in 2013 at 54,000 to wife's friend, last seen had over 100k on it.

In December I went to DLT Chanthaburi to check on the latest requirements for car and motorbike licences. I was given a list of documents plus address for a suggested medical centre; 100 baht fee - they filled out the form with height, weight, blood pressure, blood type, signed and stamped, that was it, a bargain.

Bars and YouTube. About a year ago a YouTube channel from a Canadian setting up The Last Bar, Chiang Mai. Thought he'd bought the bar, but lost in translation it was only leased. Lost a lot on the rebuild, all went quiet. He's back now having returned to work in Canada while the bar was losing - his statement - 50-60,000 a month. Pumping more money into it to make the bar a success - give him points for perseverance! and maybe he'll recover the losses eventually.
