Alcohol Sales Banned for End of Buddhist Lent This Upcoming Sunday
gomangosteen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
And a quaint relic of colonial empire days, New Zealand (37.3% Christian) still has alcohol ban days Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day, plus a more local one, until after 1pm on Anzac Day 25 April. Though I don't ever recall hearing of hordes of whinging foreigners missing out on their daily barstool ales. -
Old age pensions of the World

New Zealand - for NZers residing permanently overseas in retirement past age 65, they must have lived in New Zealand a minimum of five years between ages 50 and 65. If qualified as above, there is a percentage calculation of the basic national superannuation rate which is based on how many years living abroad (does not include Australia or UK and some other countries with reciprocal superannuation agreements). It's calculated per month between ages 20 and 65. 45 years @ 12 months = 540. As an example, if a person had been living in Thailand ten years between 20-65, that's 120 months they 'lose', they could receive an amount 420/540 (just under 78% of the basic rate). The current full weekly basic rate is NZ$496 = 10,500 baht, so my 'ten years in Thailand' example would receive around 8000 baht per month. NZers can also travel overseas / holiday for up to 26 weeks of each year and retain their superannuation. -
...the number of times I've told people where we live and they say knowingly 'oh yes, the death railway' or else correct my pronunciation by saying 'Kanchanaburi' slowly. Buying a ticket to get here, the Ekkamai bus agency has a card with 'Kanchanaburi or Chanthaburi?' written on it. Be disappointing to get here and find no railway, let alone a death one.

Different regions, different experiences. We went to Equalizer 3 two Sundays ago in Chanthaburi, a 'younger' audience, everyone stood.

Opening a Bank Account.
gomangosteen replied to strikingsunset's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I had PA insurance with Kasikorn several years ago - policy came free due to investment with them at that time. Had a cycling accident which resulted in brief hospital care and dental work. Produced receipts, refunded to my account in two days. Not exactly 'no value' imo. Here's the Kasikorn current basic PA option Premium (Baht) Single Plan 1 year 3,790; 3 years 10,655 1. Loss of life/ Total Permanent Disability from accident While riding as a passenger in a public transport vehicle worldwide 3,000,000 While in the overseas (outside the public transport vehicle) 2,000,000 2. Loss of life, dismemberment or Total Permanent Disability from General accidents 1,000,000 While riding or traveling by motorcycle 300,000 Murder or assault 300,000 3. Loss of life, dismemberment or Total Permanent Disability from terrorism 300,000 4. Medical Expenses / each accident 100,000 5. Daily income compensation (not exceeding 365 days / accident) 1,000 -
There would be quite a percentage of the eligible population in similar situations; we spent a year in Sa Kaeo it was 26km to 'civilisation' at Khao Chakan if you rate a 7-11 and mini-Lotus as qualifying, 45km to Sa Kaeo town. Nearer our home there were just little family stores, hardware and farm supplies. Where we are now, Chanthaburi province in a town of 7,000 and 15km to C city, not a whole lot of big spending options other than Lotus supermarket and four 7-11s. We'll 'buy' the two daughters 10k and spend on household expenses they can shop themselves out at in the city with cash. I'll need to negotiate an exchange rate!

Change of government The Labour Government has collapsed, plummeting to half its vote from 2020, on the verge of losing some of its safest seats and being behind in most of the Māori seats. At 9.45pm, Labour was on the ropes with National and Act in a strong position to form a government without NZ First. With more than 40 per cent of the vote counted, Labour’s vote was a shade higher than 25 per cent, meaning half of the caucus is out of a job. And an update with 84.6% votes counted: National 39.6% Labour 26.5% Green 10.6% ACT 9.1% NZ First 6.4% Māori 2.5% Former prime minister Sir John Key [National] said: “In 2020, Jacinda delivered a result I didn’t think was possible under MMP. But, they’ve gone from that to losing half their caucus. It’s pretty brutal.”

Your 2 favourite days from last year

I was in Wellington New Zealand on a six month HR contract due to end 25 October 2022. Hated it. Ok $ but not an enjoyable workplace, over 1900 employees and an annual staff turnover 28% gives an indication of how happy a place it was and the workload on HR Took a couple of days off and visited Auckland brother to think things over, decided I to exit early, cut contract short and flew to Suvarnabhumi 29 August, back to the family. Didn't have time to finalise property there, went back for six weeks Feb / Mar and sorted everything. Happy days: 1 giving my notice, 2 walking out for the last time. No regrets. -

Opening bank account
gomangosteen replied to Dave0206's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Bizarre in a Thai sort of way the differences between banks and bank branches. To open a new account with Kasikorn last week (had checked in advance): my ID card, yellow book, copy passport notarised by embassy, copy of page showing visa on passport. Provided ok, all sorted though took almost an hour, only compulsory cost was for an ATM card. A note on their insurance. I have had bank insurance here previously and while the cover maximum isn't high, after a cycling accident they paid 100% for my short hospital stay and 80% dental fees - refund was in my account two working days after submitting receipts. -

Yamaha Grand Filano electric starting problem
gomangosteen replied to kwak250's topic in Motorcycles in Thailand
We went through a similar sounding scenario last month (Yamaha Fino) turned over but wouldn't start; local shop replaced battery; next time spark plug. Then wouldn't start while we were in the city, found a nearby repair place open on Sunday afternoon - faulty fuel pump, not repairable, replaced with genuine Yamaha rather than a cheaper copy. Got a loan bike to get home, picked up repaired next day and ok since. Bike has done 92,000km that's the most expensive repair we've ever had, 2500 baht. -
Time of day impacts on metered rides; my recent return via Suvarnabhumi I'd booked a hotel in Lat Krabang for the night - worst time of day around 5pm it took one hour ten minutes. Next morning back to Suvarnabhumi at 11am, just twelve minutes. Fortunately using the hotel's courtesy van so no fare difference but in a metered cab that 70 minutes would have been pricey. I've also hit traffic in a cab from Suvarnabhumi to Ekkamai and paid/got out and walked the last km as we were stationary and i had a bus to catch - last one of the day to Chanthaburi.

BABY: Baby, can I hold you tonight?

The ignore feature is not strong enough. I'd hoped he'd get a ban after his 'sex with a corpse' fantasy from when he apparently worked in a hospital / morgue which was fortunately promptly removed from the site several months ago. A sick individual. -
I opened an account with Kasikorn on Monday this week. I was asked who would be beneficiary in the event of my death, copied wife's ID card and tabien baan and entered in their system with my account details. Also have accident insurance through them, same applies re beneficiary. As I've experienced before - often depends on the knowledge of the bank staff.

Hi, what's your overall review of the 160 - recommended? Daughter starts uni next year and giving her the Fino that won't die it seems to go forever. We're 15km from work/city/beach all different directions so mainly minor highway use. I was in Pattaya in July and twice was pillion on a Click 160 motorbike taxi, certainly got along quicker than a Fino would two-up.

! scary having someone elee sit the est. Whose photo goes on the licence? There is another option: Daughter is attending training and sitting for her licence at Advanced, an accredited driving school next month: Currently, more than 30 Advanced Driving Schools are in operation across the country. The school has a standardized driving training course licensed by the Department of Land Transport. Ministry of Transport Courses offered Driving test for transportation, driving test course and motorcycle driving test course for the general public and can take the test to obtain a driving license at the school. Training area before they get on to the real roads here's a 2017 link to a thread on the topic New regulations mean that people who want a driving license will no longer need to be tested at a land department center. 93 private driving schools nationwide are registered with his department. Potential drivers will have to go to one of these to complete the training. But when that is done they will need to do nothing else except present the certificate from the driving school and they will get their license. Another 48 driving schools are also being considered to be part of the scheme.
