I've only had one instance of being questioned about work, when we lived in rural Sa Kaeo province 2009-10 I cut down a stand of mature trees, up to around 15-20m height. Had two to go when a policeman arrived, he was not interested in my working, just over what I was going to do with the timber, as there are restrictions on the sale of some varieties, permit required. It was being donated to local craftsmen, something for the temple; all ok. Basically a 'keep up the good work '. I renovated a classic style 2-level Thai farmhouse on the same property, attracted lots of attention from every 'expert' on my carpentry and painting skills. Lots of advice, but not much in the way of actual help. Never an issue with police. No different here in Chanthaburi, I've been thanked for my work clearing and maintaining an area of no-man's-land behind our house for the last 4 years. Seems I'm now the only farang* in town (pop 9000) since Covid, guess it would be easy to point me out as an illegal worker I don't exactly blend in ! * Note on above, off topic, there used to be several older (guess 70+) Dutch and German in our area, guess they went back to home countries when Covid hit, none have returned. Suppose this may have happened in many areas? We know one from UK has passed away he returned to England for better healthcare, sad.

Controversy as Vogue Thailand uses Angkor Wat for Thai model shoot
gomangosteen replied to geovalin's topic in Cambodia News
Who are these "social media commentators"? These days, aren't we all? Similar to the headlines we have here of the frequently "outraged Thai netizens". Far worse going on in both countries to potentially get upset about. They're conservatively well-dressed, a harmless photo shoot. I am less than outraged.- 1 reply

Stupid? He's well out of the braindead weed class. Already on his way to USA "quickly handed over to US authorities and deported from Thailand to face racketeering charges in the United States in short order." according to this report Shane Ngakuru is the cousin of the worldwide leader of the motorcycle criminal gang The Comancheros which is active in organising huge drug shipments throughout the world. It is understood that Mr Ngakuru, who entered Thailand in 2020, is what is termed by international police agencies as a ‘super facilitator’ involved in negotiating huge shipments of illegal narcotics particularly methamphetamine for the crime syndicate led by Duax Hohepa Ngakuru who is known as the ‘international commander’ of the ruthless and violent drug syndicate and who is believed to have his headquarters in Turkey.

New Zealand does not have an extradition treaty with Thailand, seems unlikely they'll need to deport him as USA / FBI get him first, and a Thai news source claims he has already been handed over to the FBI: "The FBI considers Shane Ngakuru a "fugitive". If arrested and convicted in the United States he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment."

The NZ news version - full item at link: Comancheros member wanted in global drug sting arrested in Thailand Oct 19 2022 The cousin of a Comancheros boss who has evaded police for a number of years has been arrested in Thailand on drugs charges. Shane Elwood Ngakuru has been named as a co-defendant of a number of people facing charges in New Zealand. Detective Inspector Paul Newman confirmed Ngakuru, who is also a Comancheros member, had been arrested in Thailand following a joint operation involving the FBI and Thai Police.

"stop all this public nakedness on the eastern seaboard of Thailand. " Just reporting in from coastal Chanthaburi. This outrageous nakedness has not as yet spread this far down the eastern seaboard. From the beach on Monday I can only report two elderly women raking leaves (fortunately clothed). In future I'll be attentive to any nakedness; while I'm not overly observant at times, I'm sure I'd notice. Who should I report to?

How much do the average Thai person earn ?
gomangosteen replied to Baron Samedi's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Yup. Not taxed, not banked, won't show up in the figures - daily wage payment v salary. Brother-in-law has a farm contracting business in Sa Kaeo. Full-on in sugar harvest time the workers are on 700/day plus, then back to around half that for general tractor work, planting, fertilizer spreading, spraying, for much of the year. Cash, their earnings won't show up in any survey either. -
How much do the average Thai person earn ?
gomangosteen replied to Baron Samedi's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
All that's cone out of this is that we collectively have nfi about the earnings nationwide. As I detailed in last week's thread on the same topic, how to factor in annual bonuses and allowances. My partner's company paid senior staff bonus in gold this year, won't show in any 'average' calculation. These are the Bank of Thailand average nationwide wage earnings by category as at 30 September 2022, based upon wage deposits coded to employment classification. Not broken down by region, or 'class' of employee. Pointless comparing to averages in other countries; Thai rates, Thai tax (low), Thai economy (my own example I was on contract in NZ May-Aug this year, 38% tax plus superannuation contribution plus insurances etc I came out with about half) BoT September 2022 Legislator, senior officials and managers 31,449.56 Professionals 28,022.56 Technicians and associate professionals 22,534.11 Clerks 15,813.31 Service workers, shop and market sales workers 12,178.29 Skilled agricultural and fishery workers 7,006.48 Craftsmen and related trades workers 12,136.87 Plant and machine operators and assemblers 12,213.89 Elementary occupations 8,629.69 Workers not included elsewhere 20,108.53 -
How much do the average Thai person earn ?

It's only last week there was a thread on average earnings. Again Coming to a forum of primarily unemployed/retired expats ... you'll get nothing but vague and wildly inaccurate, exaggerated anecdotal tales of someone who know someone who earns xxx. The Bank of Thailand provides quarterly statistics https://www.bot.or.th/App/BTWS_STAT/statistics/ReportPage.aspx?reportID=667&language=eng from 2001 to 2022, but any suggestions of breaking down into your classes and regions ... well your being rather fanciful there. I'd suggest the 'upper class' as you put it don't often earn a weekly taxable wage, rather take drawings from their business income. My partner's employers recently bought his & hers Porsche Panameras, around 20 million - money like that doesn't come from weekly wages. I wouldn't consider them upper class, just successful in business. BTW, we are 'eastern' - if you do publish your answers, the eastern seaboard Chonburi Rayong, Chanthaburi etc are a significant earnings sector of the country's economy. -
Import personal used bicycle
gomangosteen replied to Winston Smith 007's topic in Cycling in Thailand
Visa not relevant, I brought a road/triathlon bike in, no interest at all when I arrived. Just check on the packaging requirements - may differ by airline. Happy cycling for you! -
Well off the mark there in terms of holidaymakers. The 2022 UK tourism figure to Thailand is 4.7%. Four-point-seven. For January to August 2022, UK tourist number is 204,231 from a total of 4,378,920. They make up 19.8% of the combined European total of 1,030,003. Perhaps not the contribution you expected?

Most Thais want to quit their job but don’t
gomangosteen replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A factor in not changing jobs for middle management is the loyalty bonus system many employers operate, the longer duration of employment, the higher the annual bonus. To leave for what be a higher annual salary can be a big step backwards in terms of actual annual income when starting back at 'year one' -
Essentially, requirement for producing a death certificate. For some of the adults killed, the teacher and provincial admin office staff, may be covered by insurance through their employment.
