  1. I feel I would be devastated if I fell truly in love with a woman here and went the whole hog in selling up at home and buying a house, land and the rest here, only to discover it was a long con on her behalf and I was left destitute and brokenhearted.

Yes, I and we, know some who have done that. They are very bitter.

It is why my assets are safe.

My heart however could come under attack at any moment and in the case of falling deeply in love may not be something I could control. At least a broken heart on its own can be mended with time. Whereas totally broken finances and broken heart may be un-mendable.

  2. Someone read the reason for me it says insufficient funds. But the officer really got angry when i couldnt read thai. I had 9k baht on me a business world mastercard fully loaded and a kasikorn atm. I believe only cash counts. If i had enough cash i believe he would have said something else.

Sorry to hear of your problems Johnny.

Can I ask, did he ask how much money you had on you?

    Best of luck

Presuming he is no longer able to post - he had 9,000 Baht.

  3. Well, they have said I an handsome, but I do not think I am particularly so.

Definitely not monetary as I am not rich.

At 100 kilo I am not slim.

I am, however, passionate, faithful and loving. I was told that was a big factor from those I have spent a long time with (3 years & 2 years and one for 1 year), especially being faithful. I apparently have a sense of humour that is liked too.

  4. Consider it is generally 3 days.

How many monks attend each day.

How many people - then how much food and drink.

    Size of the temple.

Is the deceased 'resting' in the temple for the full 3 days or as many do, at home in the coffin.

Is it a basic coffin or a gilded one?

Are they using (as at the last funeral I attended) a gilded carriage to transport the deceased to the temple?

The previous funeral I attended was for a popular but relatively poor person in a village. Father or the then g/f.

Laid out at the house in a simple wooden coffin.

A few monks each day. Music, food, drink.

    Several hundred people in all.

Tables, chairs, crockery, cutlery were all provided by the local temple for a small fee.

For that I gave 5,000 Baht towards immediate costs (food, drink, water).

In the latter case, the family had been making monthly payment into the local insurance fund to cover the costs of the funeral. I was not asked for any more money as the insurance covered the cost and donations were made from family and close friends.

The only ones not to donate were the usual hangers on that you get at these events.

I would say 200,000 is a hell of a lot to pay unless the person has rank of some sort.

  5. You said an hour away from Suan Phlu so I presume this wasn't Sukhumvit. Which part of Bangkok did this happen?

I was captured outside Bang Kapi Mall, Soi Lad Prao, even the first time I was there. It took about one hour to Suan Phlu, but there were pretty heavy traffic.

And for those who still think I was reported by someone, I can guarantee that is not the case. I dont know much people, and the few I know didn`t have a clue I was on overstay in Thailand.

Did you show your passport when check in at your hotel?

If yes: no need to look any further...

No I didn`t. I lied at check-in, and told them I was going to pick up a new passport at my embassy the next day. Just showed them my thai drivers license. I knew the risk of exposing myself.

They had no reason to doubt that, and everything went well at check-in. I stayed there for a couple of days.

They got your name and passport number off the Thai driving licence.

Did you have your Thai licence with you when you were arrested by Immigration?

  6. You are not required to carry your passport but you should have a copy of it with your visa. A DL is usually ok too. Just take a photo of your passport and visa and keep it in your phone.

The law has always been and still is overstay and pay 20k at the airport or get caught and go to IDC. If you have money Immigration will let you sleep in one of their offices and even take you to restaurants and 7-11 and let you order KFC and pizzas etc. and give you your phone back.

I've got plenty of clowns out of IDC over the years and it's always ended up costing me.

You are saying they will accept an overseas Driver's Licence if you don't carry your passport? They also accept a photo of the passport on your phone?

If you have a copy of your details page of the passport & the visa, do you need to carry a copy of all your 90 day extension stamps from immigration too?

As ATF said regarding the driving licence but yes he meant a Thai one. The Thai licence has your passport number on it with your photo, name and date of birth.

Very easy then for immigration to check you out.

  7. I had a Ford Mondeo running on LPG. It was converted before I bought it. I ran that car for about 3 years with no engine issues. That car must have been 15 or more years old with the original Ford engine in it.

The Mitsubishi Strada I had was converted from Diesel to a petrol Toyota Engine to run on LPG also had no problems whatsoever regarding the engine.

Both the above were dual fuel and often started on petrol and also run on petrol at times to keep the engine lubricated.

    Neither motor exploded either.

  8. I do not feel it is up to the OP to chastise this child in any way except verbally. Certainly do not lay a finger on the child - that would be deemed assault and people could make it very bad for you.

Difficult because the child does see its mother rarely and maybe does want some love and affection from her. That needs to be understood.

The fact he stomps his feet and has tantrums over gifts and money tells a whole different story to me. I'd surmise the child has had previous contact with a foreign male who possibly spoiled him.

Yes, a child is often part of the package and that does create many difficulties.

If you are not willing to take time to adjust yourself and allow the child and mother to adjust, I would walk away now.

  9. Those accusing people of leaving their brains behind when they get here etc., Often the tourist has been travelling for a long time. In a lot of cases for 24 hours. They are tired from lack of sleep and maybe not thinking straight. This is when incidents like this can occur.

What does surprise me is the amount of money in the bag. That I do find to be a stupid amount to carry in these circumstances.

  10. Take into account the number of miles you do in a year to see if it is a viable option.

Take the cost of the conversion into account and running costs versus what you would normally spend on fuel. Add to that the length of time you expect to keep the car. That way you will be able to get a good idea of value for money.

The Mitsubishi Strada I had averaged 2 Baht a Km on LPG. It had a 2 litre Toyota engine installed and the diesel lump taken out and sold.

  11. The last ship (2014) IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2402207/?ref_=nv_sr_1

The crew of a naval destroyer is forced to confront the reality of a new existence when a pandemic kills off most of the earth's population.

Quite good and rated 7.3 on IMDB

That show got better as the season went on, in my opinion.

I know views on this thread are divided. laugh.png

  12. Thanks but I need more like amount of the expenses. Such as your easy case not so complicated.

Or give an example from people you known or your experience.

Now the cheapest i found just agree and divorce they will charge for 150,000THB.

    :-(

    :-)

A relatively simple case over a financial deal that was not repaid.

Lawyers, court and administrative fees 5,000 Baht.

I got a paper off the judge giving me 10 years from the dated document to take possession of any goods she might own in the future, such as a car, motorbike, house etc as part or full payment.

    2nd case was free.

Same lawyer I contacted over some hassle I was getting from another female. He advised on the best course of action to take. He also wrote and had delivered, a strongly worded letter that apparently had her quaking in her boots.

But, every case is different. As CharlieH has said.

Get different quotes from different lawyers.

  13. Finding one - a good woman - is, in my opinion a difficult thing to do here in Thailand. Being in the 'wrong place' can be an added hindrance too. Like Pattaya and any other destinations most Thai women see as places where prostitution is rampant and the men are in these places to rent their women by the day.

Tell a good woman you live in Pattaya, for example, and she will run a mile.

I discovered in my first year here that many women asked if I had been to Pattaya. When they discovered I had not it made a big difference.

There are plenty of good towns all over Thailand. I think people who are looking for a good woman could do some research into these other towns to see if they have what they want, be it nightlife, other foreigners, or whatever. Move into the town(s) of your choice, see if you like them and get yourself into some of the local restaurants / clubs and the women will often find you if you are there regularly on your own. The grapevine can work to your advantage here too because many women ask the staff if you come alone or with another woman.

I found having a male Thai friend was a great help too. We used to go out to clubs and restaurants regularly. Many of the women used to ask him about me. He was also good at vetting the women.

Even being outside some of these clubs (having a smoke) people would then come up to me to chat.

Inside, a Thai woman might simply raise a glass in your direction to see if you would respond. Next they would ask a member of staff to hand you a phone number, or ask them if they know you. Some who had a little English would come over on the way back from the toilets and start a conversation.

The point being is you regularly being seen out alone in places.

Just my opinion based on life before Pattaya :)

  14. 1

    Lasted less than a month.

    When you wrote that ... I laugh.png'ed

    I had this impression ...

    th1.jpg

    Something like that.

She was not happy in my cave, nor happy under the sabre toothed tiger skins we slept under and that was why she got the heave-ho. My primaeval needs need attending to so I went off hunting for another one to drag back to my cave.

  15. My current problem for 'What am I watching now', is I have about 3 terabytes of tv and movies and do not really know what to watch next. When I think I do know, a friend I give series to on a USB stick also gets some off another friend. As I load his USB stick, then I have even more stuff to watch.

Currently the latest Hell on Wheels and Sons of Anarchy are high on my 'To watch' list along with Vera and Scott and Bailey.

I feel the only way to watch 3 terabytes is to chain myself to the sofa and not go drinking beer on a night with my friends (and that ain't gonna happen laugh.png ).
