  1. Hmm, not looking too promising.

lj cm, let us know how you get on at the place near the Samsung service centre.

    What about Amorn?

My old broken Receiver is gone.

    My wife throw it out.

    That solved my problem!.

  2. I hope someone know a place, because I also have a Receiver that needs repair.

There must be a "back-street" repair shop somewhere in Chiang Mai.

There are probably a few "back street repair shops" around but would you want to leave your high-end amp at these places where they could fry your expensive transformers? Many of these places don't have much more than a Chinese made VOM on the bench.

Just a thought......there is a Hi Fi shop on the moat near the Samsung service center - actually it is in the row of shops in the parking area if you turn in just before the Samsung sign. The guy used to have American, British and Japanese vintage equipment in there. Maybe he would know of somewhere who can repair high end gear. I haven't been there in years so I'm not sure if it's even still there. My guess is you will have to send your gear to Bangkok.

OK; I know where the Samsung service center is, so I will check it out. Thank you.

  3. It's best to go at 13:00, then they are not busy.

Actually be there 10-15 minutes before, so you finish the video before the Thai's.

Good to know thanks. Hope someone can chime in about the residency letter requirements as it will be a pain to go all the way out to Promenada and be missing one key officer's/stickler's requirement...

You need that and I had a post about it: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/752801-residence-certificate-in-chiang-mai/

  4. My wife has the old type driving license. It's valid until she's 60 or 70.

She claims, that if she change it to the new type, it has to be renewed every 5 years.

Does anyone know if that is correct?.

She should be able to get the new type (as in plastic with photo) valid for "life"

Even though they don't issue "life time" licences any more they will convert the old paper types to plastic with all benefits grandfathered in.

    That's also what I think.

Last time she used 1,000+ Baht in the Beauty Salon to look as good as possible; because "it had to last forever". Result was, no one can see, it's her.

She will probably do the same again.

    again next week

Yes; when they get the "real smart" driving license!.

Never heard of something like this. The very 1st one you get is valid for one year only, then you get another one which is valid for 5 years. Each time you renew after that will give you yet another 5 years license.

Check her card, the expiry date is stamped on it.

The law was changed about 15 years ago. Before then Thais would first get a one year license and then a "permanent" one. Falangs had to renew every year. After the change all people would start with a 1 year and then continue with 5 years at a time. So the change was good for us but bad for Thais.

  7. I bring my Nissan NV for service and (mechanical) repairs at the Nissan shop close to Airport Plaza. They have been able to get all spare parts so far.

For all electrical problems (starter, fan etc.) I go (with both my old cars) to Amnuay Motor Air 2. They are very good.

You don't need the service info, because they do not really check the cars (new or old) according to the checklist, but just change oil and filters.

So; change oil every 10,000 km., oil- and air-filter every 20,000 km and sparkplugs every 50,000 km. That's it!.

You have to oil the door hinges etc. yourself.

  8. The word police are at it again. I'm quite happy to call it a "retirement visa" and will continue to call it that. "a non-immigrant O visa extension based on retirement" sounds a bit OCD to me.

You would continue to be wrong then

Unless it is a very specific question, I repeat a very specific question, about the process to apply for, or obtain a visa or extension to stay - is it really an issue?

The issue under discussion was the question of the "under consideration" and "1000 baht expediting fee".

It is obvious that the OP has been through the process a few times previously and wasn't asking guidance on the actual extension process.

    What's next?

An "I landed at Swampy" post followed by a barrage of "No you didn't - you landed at Suvarnabhumi" posts to follow?

Sometimes the unnecessary Visa Police comments drown out the actual point being discussed.

Try to read the context of the post. If a newbie comes along and obviously has it wrong, then by all means point out the error, gently, I might add.

Is it really necessary to do so constantly with the more experienced players?

Totally agree. Sometimes people are afraid to write because of the "word police".

Regarding the OP. I hope CM (Chiang Mai) Immigration does not learn these tricks.

  9. Problem solved!

If I change the 'Vane' setting, so it moves up and down, there is no more water dropping.

Strange but true. It must be something about the airflow varies.

I like to thank all of you for your comments and suggestions.

  10. I have two Mr Slims , had them twp years never the first problem , very happy with them . Both inverted models , cost a bit more but worth the extra money I think .

That's just what I needed to hear. Just joking; but I was sooo close to choose the inverter model. Maybe I can do a deal with my Aircon guy to "upgrade".

The inverter model also looks better.

  11. Where is the water dripping from and to?

It doesnt sound like you even have a problem. Check that your drain is not blocked or kinked.

Also check that your indoor coil Is not turning into an iceblock when on cooling (low fan too). This is the first sign the system has a gas leak.

The water dripping is inside the Aircon. I can not hear, if it's on the left, middle or right side.

The drain is not blocked and I don't think there is a gas leak, because it cools very good. But that might change.

One day, when I feel like it, I will open it up at check, if I can locate the problem.

The main reason I wrote the post, was that there might be other people, that recently bought the same model and have the same problem.

It could be an assembly fault with a batch of Aircons from the factory. I'm sure Mitsubishi (or any other brand) would not do a recall of "slightly faulty" Aircons!?

If it's installed in an office or living room, you would probably not notice the water dripping; but in a quiet bedroom, you will.

  12. After testing, I found out, that the water drops happen, when the compressor starts (and running) and the fan is on minimum. If I turn the fan to medium, no problem.

I have the exact same issue with a Daikin. It lasts only for about maybe 30 seconds then disappear to return some time later, but no leaking.

Now that you say, the "dripping" only started about 6 months ago after I changed to have the fan always at night setting.

Exactly the same. 10-12 drops in about 30 seconds / one minute, no leaking, returns later.

  13. Just a thought, with low air flow it is possible that the condensation drain path or part of it is icing up, hence when you increase air flow you do not have a problem.

That's what I'm thinking. The Aircon setting is on "automatic"; so when I turn it on, the fan is running full speed until my 25 degrees is reached. Then the fan turns to slow. When the temperature increases, the compressor turns on, but the fan stays at low. If the fan would just go to medium, until the 25 degrees was reached again, it would be fine.

I had before the icing problem with the Aircon in my car. Compressor on and fan low speed = icing.

  14. Sounds like you are getting a sincere service effort. Where did you buy it?

The only problem is that you hear water drops in it, sometimes? Can you hear them when the fan is running?

We have used the same Aircon guy all the 14 years, we have lived in Chiang Mai. He used to work for a company, but a couple of years ago, he made his own called 'CP Air'. He have installed all our Aircons and come and clean them 2 times a year. I will consider him as a professional.

  15. I bought a new Mitsubishi Aircon (MS-GK13VA) a month ago. It worked fine, except sometimes, I could hear water drops inside the Aircon. Very irritating!.

The Aircon Guy's tried to repair it 3 times, but then gave up and installed a new (same model) Aircon. It has the same problem.

Has anyone ever had the same type of problem; and was it fixed.

I can probably get it changed again; but then I want a different brand and then the question is: what brand?.

I like to hear from someone, who have had a new Aircon installed within the last year, because you can apparently not trust the "good old brands".

  16. I have before read negative comments about them, but I've had good experience with them; until now!

I brought our Samsung Microwave for repair (14 months old). The 'power' button was stuck.

The female staff receiving it, started with just saying "what's wrong"; no "hello" or any other introduction.

After a couple of days, I received a telephone call, that it would cost 560 Baht to repair it. I agreed on that.

When I went to get it, a male "manager type" told me, that it cost 960 Baht for the repair.

I pointed out, that I was told, the repair would cost 560 Baht; and I would not pay 960 Baht, because that was almost 50% of buying a new one.

After "simulating" looking at some papers and their computer, he agreed about the 560 Baht.
