Bangkok BTS Disturbance Sparks Debate Over Tourism Conduct
timendres replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
The worst day on the BTS is better than the best day on a New York City subway. -
I filed my return. Specifically because I received a royalty payment into my KBank account. Also, I filed tax returns for the ten years prior, since I worked in Thailand. Thus, I already had a TIN. I owed no tax. But I received income directly into Thailand, and I am a tax resident. That said, for those who will owe no tax, I think not filing is an okay strategy. At some point, if they get serious, they will tie our extension to a tax filing. But so far they have stated clearly that they will not do that. So, for now, not filing should be okay if you owe no tax.

Working Visa - Earliest Issue Date
timendres replied to stament's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My "contract" was to start one month after I re-entered Thailand, but the company belonged to me, so I managed all of the details - that made life much simpler. In your case, I think you need at least the week that it will take to complete the work permit. Two weeks to be sure. -
Working Visa - Earliest Issue Date

What I described was not a "renewal". It is the process I went through for my first work permit, and the following extensions based on the WP. -
This was quite true back in the day. But now we have ETFs that mimic shorting the market. For example, QID is a 2x short on the QQQ, which is an ETF that tracks the NASDAQ. These ETFs are not for the uninitiated. They have real risk if not traded properly. I use the QID (and others) ETF as a hedging vehicle in my IRA (retirement account).

Working Visa - Earliest Issue Date
timendres replied to stament's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Are you going to be obtaining a work permit? If so, you must obtain an extension based on work permit before the Non-B visa expires. To get the extension, you must complete the work permit process before applying for the extension. You can apply for the extension within 30 days prior to the visa expiration. It should not take more than a week to complete the work permit. Mine was completed by my agent in 3 days, once the proper documents were in order. So, the "around 60 days" seems like a decent estimate. -
My father was a civil engineer for the state of Michigan, USA. He told me of many stories of fatalities during construction projects. He really drove home that construction is an inherently dangerous phase of development. That said, the number of incidents here speaks to a clear need for better management. The workers in the field can only perform as well as they are directed. They are not engineers and can only pray they are being deployed safely.

Non Immigrant O Visa - need for onwards ticket?
timendres replied to JontS's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I did. If I had a "conversation with the wall", I would call again. As @DrJack54 suggests, it should not happen. But I prefer a definitive answer from the airline. Having been jacked up at the airport more than once (not for onward ticket), it is something I prefer to avoid. -
Non Immigrant O Visa - need for onwards ticket?

Thai immigration does not require the onward ticket for Non-O visas. However, it is possible that some airlines may request it. I would ask the airline just to be sure. -
I like Arm & Hammer baking soda toothpaste. The only place I have seen here is on Lazada, and the price was outrageous.

My situation is not the norm. I have a TIN and filed tax returns for 10 years due to being employed. Now retired, my social security from the US is not assessable. I had 90,000 THB of royalty income, which is less than my deductions - so I owe no tax. I am filing anyway. Why? Because I am half convinced that within a year or two, you will need to show a tax filing to get an extension. I used the same accountant I have had for years. She completed the form and submitted it for me. That said, I wish every foreigner would go to the revenue department and tie up their resources for hours on end asking the most inane questions known to man. Because I do not think they will get the revenues they think they are going to get, and thus will abandon the experiment post haste.

@gamb00ler is correct. I opened a new account with BBL specifically for receiving my SS deposit. I did not obtain a debit card for the account, but I am able to make bank transfers via the online app, or the mobile app, to my KBank account with no problems. I did mention to the bank that I was using the account to receive my SS deposits, and they did not attempt to give me anything "special". It is just a regular bank account. Upon receiving my deposit, I transfer the amount of my monthly budget to my KBank account, which I use for daily transactions.

Public Indecency in Park: Police Halt 'Gathering' of 6 Men
timendres replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Cue the posters asking for the name of the park "so I can avoid bumping into such depravity"... -
I am in no position to comment, since I am from the USA. However, it seems to me that retirees who live abroad are reducing the load on the UK system. NHS, other government services, road congestion, limited housing, etc. All of that seems like it would be far more than the inflation adjustment. The UK government should see this as coming out ahead.
