Sizzlers is not a place I would choose for steak. It is also not a place I would choose for salad.

Well, in theory, your family will need to report your support as "income". At least in the USA this is the case. If this is not the case in Israel, then fabulous!

I believe that, if you declare all remittances to Thailand, and pay the taxes due on those remittances, you will have no problems with Thailand. However, if you reside in Thailand permanently, and have no clear evidence of any income, Thailand will eventually get up to speed enough to look closer. Since your Wise account is not a Thailand account, then moving profits to that account does not constitute a tax event in Thailand. Only the money you actually remit into Thailand is assessable.

It might help to know what your home country is. You mentioned that your IB account is in the US. So I assumed you are a US citizen.

Anyone who knows the history of the US Constitution understands how absurd these comments are. There are solid reasons why the US is a Republic, not a Democracy. And it is so relevant in these current times.

At this moment in time, the only "tax event" you need to be concerned about is money remitted into Thailand. How you report the remittance depends on the "source" of the funds. If the funds were entirely from profit, then the amount remitted to Thailand would be considered subject to Thai "income tax". If you are a US citizen, like me, you will need to report your trading profit/loss on your US tax return. If you have paid taxes on any moneys you remit to Thailand, then you need to refer to the DTA for your country. For example, as a US citizen, if I remit to Thailand, and owe taxes on the remittance, I can deduct the taxes already paid to the US treasury. You mention using Wise. However, this does not eliminate your obligation. It merely suggests that you could possibly "hide" it. Not a solid long term strategy IMHO.

He apparently has an "agent" helping with those negotiations. -
Benefits to closing a bank account?
timendres replied to bodo's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
My only concern would be the account getting hijacked. Very unlikely, but not impossible. Closing it relieves you of the possibility of being dragged into something unpleasant. If that does not concern you, there is no real reason to close it. Also there are certain conditions under which the bank will close it for you. (min balance, etc.) -

WISE just shut me down!
timendres replied to PumpkinEater's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Nothing to do with Trump. The USA has started down the road of financial repression. These rules will get more draconian. It is the result of a government that is increasingly insolvent. -
In English, straight from the Revenue Department: https://www.rd.go.th/fileadmin/download/english_form/030265guide91.pdf If you have less than 120,000THB (220,000THB for married couples) of taxable income, no filing is required. It is not clear to me, and I will be asking my account soon, if exempt income (say US SS payments) apply to the above. Interestingly, the document states that even non-residents (less than 180days in TH) must file a return if they exceed the above. You will (I believe) not owe tax, but apparently must file. That is going to get messy. Also keep in mind - if your accountant is not a Thai national, they are operating illegally. Accounting is a restricted occupation.

This is good advice. Maybe start out by offering 1,000 more and be willing to offer the market value. You've gotten a bargain (apparently) for some years, so "fair enough"...

Has Elon Musk become an existential threat to humanity?
timendres replied to RSD1's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Mansa Musa was the richest man in history, and much more "liquid" than Elon. Few of these modern rich people are quite as rich as they are portrayed. Remember that most of their "wealth" in tied up in the shares of the companies they founded/own. If Elon attempted to access all of his wealth, the required share sales would tank the stock price, wiping out a majority, if not virtually all, of their supposed wealth. It does provide leverage in terms of the debt to which they have access, but even that is limited. Anyone who believes that Musk, Bezos, or Zuckerberg are more consequential that the myriad other "players" on the world stage do not fully appreciate the "competition" that is going on at that level. Most of these folks are but one miscalculation away from ruin. Elon has accomplished some amazing things. He has demonstrated amazing buffoonery. In short, he is quite human. In the grand scheme of history, Elon is but a blip. There are much scarier characters out there, in my opinion. -
Business Visa to Marriage Visa possible
timendres replied to fruitspunch's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Since it appears that you are on a Non-B visa, or started with a Non-B and extended based on a work permit, you will need to convert that visa to Non-O. I do not believe you can obtain a marriage extension based on a Non-B visa. I believe the marriage extension requires a Non-O visa. When I retired, I needed to hop over to Cambodia overnight to convert my Non-B to a Non-O. There are some who claim they were able to convert their Non-B to Non-O without leaving the country, but I forget the difference that required me to exit and re-enter. -
Tax Deducted from Savings Account
timendres replied to ravip's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
When I asked my accountant about requesting the return of the WHT portion of the VAT that my company was paying, I was informed that asking for that money back was tantamount to requesting an audit. -
The sad truth is that your bank has little choice in collecting this information. It is mandated industry wide. Just give them enough to satisfy their stupid request. "Living expenses" is probably a better answer, as "Family Support" likely does not compute. I entered "Buying a television". They were happy. Ridiculous.
