  1. I see. So how many mRNA vaccines were deployed prior to COVID-19, or for that matter, approved by the FDA? Thought so.
  2. And what about those making reasonable arguments as to why this vaccine is debatable. Their voices are muted, while the pro-vaccine message is amplified. The debate has not been balanced by any measure. It would be more understandable if this virus was on the level of ebola, but it is not. Maybe if governments spent as much time, effort, and money on expanding the healthcare system to be capable of handling the "increased load", as they do pushing the vaccines to those not at exceptional risk, we could end this nonsense of lockdowns and have a more balanced approach to the pandemic overall. Thankfully, it appears that new treatments, such as the new Merck pill, will help to alleviate the pressure on the healthcare system and allow a less radical approach to the problem.
  3. Indeed. Tired of the "anti-vax" label. People who are a bit dubious of a vaccine technology that failed to garner FDA approval for 15 years, but it suddenly "safe", are simply being prudent. I have had many "traditional" vaccines in my life, but this new technology is something for which I have a "wait and see" approach. Maybe those blindly lining up for the vaccines should be labeled "anti-critical-thinkers".
  4. Talented pointer. With the face paint camouflage skill, it is difficult to believe the BIB were able to track him down.
  5. Money well spent. Thank goodness they didn't waste it on something frivolous, like, I don't know, vaccines?
  6. Well, that is not "getting back to normal" is it? At some point, this nonsense will pass.
  7. It is not a hummingbird, but I forget which bird it is. Seen them numerous times thinking they were hummingbirds, only to be corrected by a local. Someone will be along shortly to properly identify them.
  8. So many people think sushi is the bee's knees. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. And I genuinely love Thai food, and get frequent requests from the gf to cook for her. Interestingly, the Thai gf begs me to make my Fettuccini in Olive Oil on a regular basis. I genuinely like all of the food in your list of "foods far better than Thai" with the exception of "UK", which I find to be the world's most disappointing menu.
  9. Indeed. Free markets and greed is its own volatile mix. But I will take that any day over the CCP.
  10. Evergrande is the caricature of a property bubble about to go pear shaped. A power grid so stressed that blackouts are common place now, and even factories are shuttered for days each week. An attack on the tech sector that has caused four companies to lose $250B USD in market value. And now we hear that Xi is selling strategic oil reserves to "stabilize prices" (yeah, nah). The seams are starting to fray, as is inevitable with any communist experiment. Thailand seems to be the kid who always kissed up to the popular kid on the playground, and is about to find itself without any friends.
  11. Correct. Desired results achieved. The people are subverted and nonsense prevails.
  12. If you are living with your wife (or any other individual), and there is no rental agreement, then you would show the proof of living with the wife (Thabian baan, ID, photos). If you have a rental agreement, then such evidence is not required.
  13. Because the BIB get no vig from the online platforms. A regular occurrence on Suk Soi 4.
  14. The US would declare a national holiday to have numbers so low...
  15. If I were a buyer, I would never consider such a condo. It's "unique" legal nature would be too concerning for me. What rights do I have as a condo owner? What happens if you decide you want to sell your property? How does this condo affect the value of your property? It would just be too "unusual" for me to even consider it. Further, I cannot imagine owning a condo sitting on top of someone's garage. It seems so "impermanent". Now, if I were able to rent it, that would be a completely different thing, and I might be more interested.
  16. Looking at the progression of AI in this fashion is misleading. Advancements in AI are hitting the "knee in the curve" and will soon become exponential, if not already. Also, comparing AI to the HAL of the movie 2001 is a mistake. AI is coming in forms that we never anticipated, and will likely surprise us every step of the way. For instance, the Google language translation application that is so successful with English-Chinese translation shocked the developers when they realized that the computer had "invented" a "third language" as an intermediate step in the translation process. That software is considered an extraordinary advancement in translation, and was not "programmed", but "evolved". I expect that the advancements in AI over the next 20 to 30 years are going to astound, and will be similar to the advancements in mobile phones from the Nokia candy bar phones to today's smartphones. I believe the human race is set for some massive changes - some positive, some negative - as a result of these advancements. I also believe that governments and society are ill-prepared to deal with these changes.
  17. It will not exceed 2,820, but it could reach 3,500. Very reassuring...
  18. I never asked, but I am sure a death certificate and will/court order would sort things. The owner is a very reasonable person. But also someone who understands how stupid a foreigner can be when dealing with the sexy Thai GF.
