  1. GoDaddy is the cheapest, renewed recently for a little above 7 dollars, but their style sucks.

Their website style is hideous and yes very slow loading and their checkout is a trap but choose express checkout.

Control panel is ok, but loads slow as well.

Never never buy any hosting with GoDaddy if you need a little more than a very basic website to run.

  2. Don't know the brand, it was a 100 pcs box bought by a friend when he was visiting Pantip. The corroding is also caused when the crimping tool damages the surface of the contacts. When I checked our stock of unused connectors I noticed that many of them are coloring green. But the last supply doesn't fit or better say are not locked in the DLink switches.

  3. I know that complaining about Internet speed In Thailand is as useful as complaining about the weather but...

if you see my FTP log of this afternoon.

    [R] STOR dive.html

    [R] 150 Accepted data connection

    [R] 226-File successfully transferred

[R] 226 49.371 seconds (measured here), 142.01 bytes per second

    Transferred: dive.html 6 KB in 51.72 seconds (0.1 KB/s)

    [R] PASV

It took almost one minute to transfer 6 KB!.

My 'neighbor' has a seo business and all his employees were playing games in the whole morning, his expensive exclusive line was dead and he went with high speed to the CAT office to complain.

Its not about downloading large files, simple web browsing is taking to much time and it getting worse and worse. My telephone line has a perfect connection and browsing web pages with servers located in Thailand is fast enough.

There is a solution to have some backup, we can use another telephone line with Maxnet together with the Goldcyber from TOT, but we had a crap load problems with TT&T before some time ago that's why we have now TOT.

  4. FF 3.0-beta?? The official FF 3.0 (actually 3.0.1) has been out for almost a month now. Maybe you need to update your system?

    # yum update

With respect to SELinux, I would recommend that you disable it (at least for now). System->Administration->SELinux Management.

If Apache is causing problems, first verify that it is running. The System->Administration->Services can be used to enable/disable daemons, or restart them if needed.

The issue with your wireless chip-set will only be resolved if you load the correct kernel driver for it. Since you did not mention which chip-set you have, I cannot help you with that. Try running 'lspci | grep -i network' to see which chip-set your system has.

I downloaded a fedora 9 DVD image through the torrents and the Firefox 3.0 beta came with it. Apache was running fine local but could not access the notebook from the network, no ftp access as well. Am now back to fedora 5 and all what needed is working, except the wireless.

Shall check the adapter type later but was surprised thats such a common device didn't work in the last fedora 9 version but thanks for the 'lspci | grep -i network' command.

  5. Yes TOT internet in Nai Harn was extreme slow in the last weeks, and doing normal web surfing. Yesterday it was the whole day down, called TOT and heard about maintenance - broken parts etc.

Now two years ago we had a horror line from TT&T before with CAT internet, we were to far from the exchange and TT&T knew that but did nothing.

Now I see g00dgirls speed and wow clicked the promotion link and got this : The server at www.maxnet.co.th is taking too long to respond. Oh - I think they need an upgrade to.

  6. First it is a bad habit to always login as root user, it is very good, that finally Fedora closed the danger for root users.

The current trend for operating systems is to boost security for the system, extra warnings for root user and blocking dangerous traffic which can compromise the system's security fits into this new trend. Of course all this new security options are easily stopped, by opening System->Preferences->System->Authorizations you can configure exactly what who can and cannot do at which time..

By the way, a not important issue Fedora doesn't use the term "Core" anymore, so it is now just "Fedora 9"

I use the system only on local network for testing, it's not critical, and by default I let windows users never run as administrator but don't need the warnings of a nanny like system.

I went through all possible settings but could not access the system anymore from the network, could not browse the network as in Fed 5, software add or removal didn't work, Firefox beta crashed etc.

  7. I used an Acer laptop with Fedora 5 and was primarily using it as local webserver with MySql, installed Fedora Core 9 over it and that did not work very good.

Clean install on the second run, and I do like the desktop look and feel now, for the first time in fact. I am not so happy with the security settings, I do like to login always as root, login as root now means do this with some more steps and pass warnings and than we have SeLinux to add more annoyances.

FTP login doesn't work, can't connect the Apache webserver on local network, installed phpMyAdmin and could not find it and the network adapter is not activated after startup and no wireless of course.

In short the desktop display look great , but will re install fedora 5 again.

  8. Our daughter and her boyfriend has bought a house there more than a year ago, can't say anything bad only the water pressure is quit low, stronger pump was needed.

After one year the house was inspected and anything was fixed if needed. Perhaps it's the warranty is the reason that they don't like to change from the plans.

  9. Click on a link on their site and you get:

    Reported Attack Site!

This web site at www.phuketgazette.com has been reported as an attack site and has been blocked based on your security preferences.

Attack sites try to install programs that steal private information, use your computer to attack others, or damage your system.

Some attack sites intentionally distribute harmful software, but many are compromised without the knowledge or permission of their owners

I just spoke to them, no worries. There are no dangerous scripts on their server. They were attacked by a hacker that garbled up some content, but it does not in any way affect the visitor. You can safely go to the website. In any case, make sure you always have your operating system and web browser updated to the latest version. Especially if you run Windows. ;-)

The warning from Google and some web browsers should be removed in a few days.

What a bullshit, there are no dangerous scripts etc. Google gives the warning not for garbling content. The attacker usually put some code in a invisible I-frame that links the visitors browser to another site. That site drops the malicious code on the visitor's computer.

I have tried to check the website source but its so huge, the gazette website is so heavy coded with java script and ugly as hel_l as many other Thai websites. ( The Nation by example).

  10. I had trouble with some hosting providers when some php scripts did not work, or did not support SSH by example, or limit the number of add on domains. All shared hosting providers kick you out when you consume to much of anything - cpu cycles, bandwidth or disk space. Now I have split my hosting over three providers, it's cheaper than a dedicated server.

Anyway I can recommend Hostgator, costs about 9$ per month, lots of disk space.

  11. Anything handled with Thai Post is going to be delivered at Customs Phuket or when the value of the parcel is low is delivered at your door, but the weight limit for postal services is 20 kg.

Some shipping companies can clear the parcel for you, like UPS and they charge a lot for this service, now if the package is send to Phuket, you should be enable to clear it with an agent here at Phuket.

  12. Long time ago our house at Soi Naya Nai Harn was invaded by a crew of fake officials (they said retired soldiers) who were collecting for disabled soldiers. They showed a photo album but we didn't pay. It looks like the same scam.

Last week two monks showed op asking money for repairs, before they arrived at our house I had those guys see walking when I was out for buying breakfast and could see that there was something not right with them.

  13. The airflow for cooling the graphic processor is much lower than the CPU, there are mods to improve this design flaw ( as one of the many flaws in the xbox360) and of course better do this before the problems arrive.

The checkerboard is a sign that the soldering is loosing contact with the GPU and "fixes" can extend the life with some days or weeks at best.

  14. People are unfairly hard on Bangkok Hospital. I don't think that their prices are a secret and as far as I'm aware, their staff are quite capable.

Its not about the price, its about Bangkok Phuket Hospital money making interests comes first, serious wounded patient can wait until payment is guaranteed, is absolute not transparent in prices for before treatment, final bill is inflated by various tricks and shocking high, if you have money to spend or good insurance fine go there.

Doctors are good or bad as in any hospital in Thailand, they rotate between the hospitals so its doesn't matter much, we had never problems with billing or the care with the International Hospital (near the Big C) and that also a private hospital.

  15. I think you're thinking wrong. Larger suppliers buy their stuff in bulk. That makes them the cheapest place to buy from. Getting it custom built usually cost the same if you're lucky or quite a bit more if you're not. Also an OEM offers a total system warranty; try and get that from a custom builder.

I am a PC custom builder (Phuket) , all the parts except PSU and DVD writer comes with 3 year warranty main dealers as Dcom or Synnex.

The price is not much different what is offered at the shops. Suppliers like HP use custom made mainboards and other parts (makes it impossible to upgrade) and the vga card with shared memory is crap, but will do in a office environment. HP offered only one year warranty.

  16. I have experienced more frequent disconnects or not receiving the ip address from the router with WPA security protocol.

You have to logon to the wireless router web admin panel, better disconnect the external adsl modem ( if any) first and reboot all, but the router first.

I haven't worked with a Mac but in windows its ipconfig command and the put the gateway address in the URL bar of internet explorer.

Login with admin - admin (Belkin routers can be different) and look for channel setting, select auto! from the choices of channels or frequencies.

That did the trick for many wireless setups.

  17. I have received for repair notebooks, camera's, mobile telephones and transceivers which got wet, and depending how much water there was splashed over but only few items were repairable. Salt water causes electrical shorts and destructs the integrated circuits in a flash. Parts and circuit board will continue to corrode anyway. Don't blame Sony, buy a new one.
