  1. Haven't seen this no video fault yet but I am working for three xboxes360 to remove the three red lights. All have booted now to the dashboard, one for a short time and shows after 10 minutes playing two red lights (overheating), tighten the screws ( three red lights).

An other one plays for 20 minutes and shows the red lights and the third one shows sometimes an E71 error and reports with every disk wrong region.

The last two have the x-clamps so see what happens after changing to the M5 bolts.

    Some tips;

Using artic silver will lower the CPU/GPU temp with 8 degrees, the RBJtech mod for the GPU cooler for more airflow (all highly recommended for owners with a working xbxo360).

    A quote from a forum:

FACT:50% of 360's fail within the 1st 6 months of use, 90% fail within the 1st year,9% will last for greater than a year and 1% may reach two.

  2. You probably just don't know where to look. Defective stuff is sold in flea markets all over Thailand... but Pantip isn't a flea market. You could also go to Chinatown. On Sunday evenings, they sell a lot of weird stuff in the flea markets.

Have visited the Ban Moo Market in Chinatown only to buy new electronic parts, but OK thanks for the tip.

  3. In my home country you have every weekend computer flee markets and computer dealers selling lots of defective hardware for almost nothing. plenty of choice of different types and brands hard disks.

Was yesterday in Pantip plaza but found some secondhand working (maybe) hard disks but it had not the PCB model that I need for repairing. Selling defective stuff is not the Thai way I guess.

  4. Misterman,

downstairs at Big C is called Bas computers. They have 2 shops there. Always been happy with their services.

Thought it was called BUS computers, but I bought last week Kingston memory in the BIG C, KVR 667 512 MB for 990 Baht and thats comes with lifetime warranty, beware of KingMax low quality, lots of failures, limited or no warranty.

  5. They sold 40 million licenses in 100 days, the fastest selling (and most expensive) operating system ever.

Vista is great, if you don't like it - then you simply aren't running a powerful enough computer to run it!, and most probably are running a pirated copy.

The only issues I've heard of with Vista are the occasional driver issues, which is more down to manufacturers of components than anything else. Vista is so easy to install (1 hour, compared against 18 hours for XP for me when I upgraded).

It is also rock solid, I've not had my PC crash once in the 6 months I've had Vista.

In my eyes the author lost credibility as soon as he mentioned Ubuntu! What is it with these people, they are the Jehovas Witnesses of Operating Systems.

I think you are even worse than a Jehova witness , to assume that everyone that doesn't like Vista has a pirated OS copy !.

I don't know Vista , I don't need it, never had a blue screen in XP unless hardware failure occurred, and the DRM thing is good reason to avoid Vista.

Further the dominance of one single company in any market is a big threat and it will be a good thing if MS continued to stick with Vista.

Another good thing would be if Ubuntu (silly name) was developed to be a real competitor for MS.

    What DRM thing?

Are you sending High Definition TV signals round your house somehow? or sharing Blu-ray disks digitally? I don't think so. If you're Windows XP has never crashed you must be very special, or simply not telling the truth.

Of course I have seen the blue screen in Windows XP many times and I have stated this in my previous post because of HARDWARE FAILURES!.

That is an observation in my daily job but in private with the choice of a quality main board and memory chips have resulted with NO blue screens using windows XP for years with every day heavy use.

  7. For five years I have the pee problems now and its getting me down now, have every day pain, and every six months a prostate infection. Have visited urologists in Phuket and Bangkok and the doctors told me that my prostate is only a little enlarged , and I used first Xatral and now Cordura XL. The medicine works after a few weeks very well but later it seems to loose some effect but without using medicines its gets very bad.

    For strawberry;

A doctor who works in the better hospitals in Bangkok would do the TURP procedure for 50.000 baht in an other clinic, normal price was 135000 for TURP, 200K for green laser.

But he advised me strongly to use the medicines.

  8. I posted some months ago about the transfer from a windows XP server to Linux ( Ubuntu server), I did not get much reaction on the Thai Visa forum so I forgot this Linux section a bit. Have one pc running on Ubuntu server with Xampp, very easy to setup, use it for php scripts testing before uploading. I learned to use vi editor( again) but am lost with some of the bizarre commands like chmod -gvdfck -xyz commands uh i mean chmod -gvdfg -xyz ah whatever.

  9. Most annoying things list;

Every 6 months I need a fresh WinXP install.

With every fresh install I am amazed by the default stupid settings and annoying balloon tips.

Need registry hacks to get my settings and detail views back.

Windows firewall is a joke if you use a dialup modem.

The windows updates means only more problems.

Windows networking from the days Windows for Workgroups always have problems with connecting networkdrives and printers.

    Windows security and privacy HA!

When I want to edit a html page MS Word starts up!

Internet Explorer deep buried by me crawls up from the grave with every chance.

    and so on etc etc.

  10. I am shopping for a Dreambox DM 500-S and on the sat shop websites in Thailand I find prices from 3800 - 14500 Baht (Jsat).

Maybe the cheaper ones are fake or clones of the Dreambox DM 500-S, but I think 14500 Baht is to much.

Does anybody know a reliable source with reasonable price?

  11. Back to the subject.

Godaddy told me that I needed to remove all the files and change them into a .php ending since I have linux (whatever that means). Some pages show, some pages don't show on the site. And all the pictures and logos have vanished. I am getting tired of this. I designed the site with Frontpage and now I get all these headaches. Tried to use a template from another Hosting company, 8 months ago, but realized that they were just after ripping off poeple, because the buttons in the menu were neither removable nor editable, and now I am stuck again..... ###### it. Can anyone recommend a good Thai web company that does not overcharge foreigners and offer a decent no bull service for uploading and showing me how to upload files onto godaddy.com???

    Thanks

I think you need to educate yourself more instead of bashing hosting companies and if you want to use a Windows based tool such as Front Page for uploading a web site on to a Linux based web server, make sure that the Front Page extensions are enabled.

  12. Need assistance. Not getting any from godaddy. Their ticket system seems down....

I uploaded pages, those blue ones, I think you call them htm pages? by hitting the upload button in File Manager located in the control panel several times. After 30 min or so that was done. I checked and my site is still not on the World Wide Web. Any advise ? I am an amateur, it's my first time I am doing this, and it's a nightmare.......

    Cheers

Never had to wait after uploading pages to my account with Godaddy, have done that in the last two days without a problem, I use FlashFXP.

  13. My adsl modem logs shows the same misery, had CAT HiNet with a TT&T telephone line ( Phuket), and for two years no really bad problems, in the night had downloadspeeds of 1.6 Mbps (HiNet 2 Mbps), than no dialtone, no sync, called TT&T and after one week a crew showed up, told me someone made a mistake.

Checked my modem and my download speed was 64 Kb, upload was 624 Kb (huh?) line att. was 63.5 dB (huh?) called TT&T again, guy showed op again after one week and I got blank stares and some smiling, he didn't speak a word English and had no clue what I was talking about. Than tried to call the TT&T ADSL line manager but he did not want to speak with me so I went to the CAT, refused to pay the bill, faxed my adsl logs to the manager and he told me to go back to TT&T, yes sure late got a letter from CAT if I didn't pay the Police would come and take some personal belongings.

  14. Hi

I suddenly get an "Internet Explorer cannot show this webpage" every time I try to access my webmail at GoDaddy.com. The strange thing is that if I use a proxy server I can.

I guess if the site was blocked I would get that message from the ICT Ministry, but I don't. Could it be another browser/router problem (I deleted Internet files already, to no avail)?

    Thanks.

At work could not connect today to my Godaddy hosted websites, ISP is TOT.

At home with an other ISP no probs.

  15. My speed right now in Nai Harn, Rawai, Phuket

with Cat Telecoms Wireless 3g (cdma 2000 1xev-do) With Sierra Wireless Aircard 580

    106865615.png

For my friend Mike I tried to install the Sierra aircard with a PCMCIA PCI adapter from CAT with a Ricoh chip in an Asus main board for an XP1800+ AMD processor and this PCI adapter did not work.

Message in the device manager was "device can not find free resources"

Bios setup changes did not work to resolve any resources conflicts.

In my PC this pcmcia adapter did work and installed the Sierra Aircard without problems, but internet surfing was very slow, and I do live in the same Nai Harn area as g00dgirl.

Think that it doesn't pick up to much signal, aircard has a small antenna behind the metal case of a destop tower close to a wall.

CAT does give a full refund if you return this aircard before 2 PM so there was very little time to test it further.

  16. Does anyone know whats a fair price for a second hand xbox in Thailand?

I would like to buy one but have no idea about price.

    Thanks

Do you mean the X-Box 1 ??? You could buy mine but I recently blew it up, by plugging it into the mains over here and forgetting the step down converter, don't know how much damage is done or if it can be fixed ??

I got regular repairs of 110V power supplies blown up, last was from an US Nintendo Wii.

First thing which blows is the main capacitor and doesn't cost much but if there to much blown up a replacement psu is needed.

Xbox psu costs 30 USD ex shipping.

  17. I would advise anyone in Thailand NOT to buy xbox360 at this time. I bought mine new from Time Game. After 3 months the machine crashed, no red ring of death and since there is no video signal out. The problem is inside the unit, not the cables. I installed extra fans and kept the unit ventilated. It's a design fault.Time Game don't care and they do NOT offer any recourse, nor service. They take your money then forget you ever graced their shop. Be very careful with these thieves, yes, thieves, they stole games from my machine and denied it.

I would just like to add that my Ps1, PS2, and Xbox have never malfunctioned, the PS1 is nearly 10 years old and my ps2 is 5 years old - funny how 360 didn't even last 3 months. Shame on microsoft and SHAME on Time Game.

Now I have a machine that it seems is unfixable in this country.

    Please be warned.

In another Xbox360 thread in this forum I offered to modify the xbox360 for cost price and I received now two dead units, after modifying the cooling blocks clamps both started up and played for hours.

Its to early to say that is is a permanent fix and I am still tweaking things but it looks good, the cooling blocks temps are after hours playing in a non air conditioned room acceptable. Attached two thermocouples on the cooling blocks and logging temps with the PC.

  18. never really use domain controlers or active directory.

Which distribution u use really doesnt matter. Its all about personal taste.

Ull need to Install samba server and set-up the shares/directories. samba uses the same protocol as windows file sharing.

It is a very simple setup if all u need is a file server.

    > Is the transfer of the company’s files with long filenames possible?

    Yes

Thanks, I have now Samba running with SWAT as config tools and its working fine as a windows share drive; next step is the domain controller setup.

But it tooks some frustrating to many hours to setup this with Ubuntu 7.04, I downloaded the Ubuntu I386 server and the desktop version and tried to install the server version first.

At exact 85% finishing of the software setup the program did not continue anymore, was stuck for hours but it was not a crash, after checking the CD iso, memory chips, cpu and changing the PC did not change anything every setup halted at 85%. :o

Finally hitting the keyboard with pressing random keys I got a terminal window, and the setup program was searching on internet probably for updates. :D

Yep I have local network with an ADSL modem as DHCP server but since TT&T decided to move the dslam more than 4 km away from my house or it grew some legs, the internet is dead, back to dial up!.

Removing the network cable did the trick, and problems again setting up Samba with Swat, the setup program did not install inetd nor xinetd, installed this and now is all running ok.
