  1. i went there last night so now i can comment.

The original poster is a real whiny baby. i sat with my gf at a 2 seat table(although there was 2 couple at a 4 place table since the place was almost empty)

and i had a real great view. Theres 2 or 3 two person table about 1 meter away from the 'window' of this open air restaurant. You can see the 'ocean'(although rawai beach is quite crappy to look at) and the 'traffic'(1 motorbike every min and maybe 2 cars) as good as if u were seated at the 4 seat table.

Also the pizza's taste the same as basilico in bangkok which is pretty high grade for thai pizza(nothing can beat north american pizza if you've lived there.. the fat and... ALL DRESSED)

I went there with my children ONCE, had worst tiny thing that they called a pizza ever and rude service when I complained.

Don't understand why you call the OP a winer, every situation can handled by the staff professionally with charm and a little explanation if they need the tables for a reservation or expect a full house later.

  2. My ThinkPad notebook is slower than my desktop, however it does have a lower powered processor (Core2Duo 2.2 GHz T7500) and 2 GB of RAM as compared to my destop Core@Duo Quad 2.4 GHZ Q6600 processor with 4 GB of RAM. With that in mine, my laptop is not really that slow using Vista Home Premium 32-bit. The main culprits that slow down my notebook is the preinstalled ThinkVantage software and the Norton Internet Security. My computer slows almost to a standstill when Norton Internet Security is perform a full scan. If you really want to speed up your notebook, install at least 2 GB of RAM and format your drive, reinstall Vista or install XP then load only the programs that you actually plan to use. When my Norton Internet Security expires, I'm going to replace it with Eset Smart Security 3 which I have installed on my desktop. It runs in the background, but uses a minimal amount of system resources to perform it's job. Norton Internet Security is a resource hog and I would bet that a lot of the preinstalled programs and utilities on your computer also add up to put a drag on your resource. I agree with Paulfr that Windows XP would perform better with your processor. I disagree with him that Vista is dead. We will not be seeing a new Windows operating system by mid 2009. We will be lucky to see it by the end of 2009, but with Microsoft's track record, expect it to be released some time in 2010. Also, the new Windows operating system, Windows 7, will more resemble the current Vista program than it will XP so I wouldn't expect it to be a major upgrade to Vista.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

I see a lot new notebooks with installed with Symantec software and Nero essentials and many installed other bloated software, toolbars, MS live junk. Don't know what the deal is between notebook manufacturer and those software companies but the customer isn't very well off with it.

Sure it would be best to format the drive but the notebook comes a pre-installed OS OEM version and a backup on a recovery partition , when you restore all the garbage is installed again.

About the roadmap for Windows, today was a MS press conference where Bill Gates made a joke about their desire to improve things and Vista gave them the full opportunity for that.

But in short Vista is to heavy loaded, has built in to much relics from the past, a new light more specialized OS is the future.

  3. Received from owner an Asus notebook dualcore cpu with 1 GB, OS Vista home-edition. He couldn't work with it it's to *** slow. Trying to uninstall the installed junk and every item cost me 30 minutes to uninstall. Ordered more memory and see if the service pack does anything to improve speed if not format c:

  4. My TOT connection has almost go to a complete stop ... average data throughput max 2KBs. Thaivisa is OK (as it's hosted in Singapore). However,

    all other sites are slowwwww....

Phuket - Rawai area -TOT Goldcyber was fast this morning at 7h, later was dead for hours, thaivisa is loading slow, probably cant even post.

Last two weeks are bad, tel line is perfect, to many people on the line I guess, had a chance to try out a business line at 2700 baht/month and it sucks to.

  5. I hear and heard you, stuandchris. Agreed.

Anyone knows who the other victim is?

Where is the concern and compassion for emergency cases at Bangkok Phuket Hospital? Long wait for insurance payment verification? He could have bled to death.

BTW, at Bangkok Phuket Hospital, there are two prices, one for Thai and one for foreigner. MRI for Thai is 9000baht, for foreigner, it's 12,000baht.

Bangkok Phuket Hospital are bunch of thieves, a money making factory. They stole 100.000 baht from me and my wife and wouldn't let me go, had make serious waves before getting out. The doctors are always doing every possible test but strange enough the last test in the row seems to give some results. They prescribe bulk loads in antibiotics and their diagnosing abilities are equal with a first year medical student. The BP hospital blows up the bills at maximum what they think to get away with.

  6. I have Zonealarm and Avast installed on my machine and use Ad-Aware for checking, occasionally for problems.

The trouble with Ad-Aware is that there is no automated scan unless I use the paid version.

CNET has just recommended Spyware Terminator.

Does any on have experiences of this programme,

    or general recommendations on subject?

    Thanks

A very good tool is Trojan Remover, used that frequently to remove all kind of malware. Is not free but you can use it for 30 days.

  7. HOWEVER...I would strongly recommend you also consider ACER laptops as they are by far the best supported and amazing prices / specs over HP.

Acer have a very bad reputation for breaking down so I wouldn't recommend buying one unless you're going to be in Thailand for a long time to take advantage of the support.

Never heard about Acer having a bad reputation, have received many notebooks for repair in Thailand but not one Acer.

  8. HI to all ! :D

I'm Vietnamese. Now, I'm in Vietnam but I have an opportunity hold one laptop HP-DV2700. My Grandparents will visit ThaiLand on 4/6(date/month), so I depend on them.

Problem now is in HP-Thailand web not show the price :o . If you know the price(USD) of dv2760TX (KP099PA) or dv2761TX (KP100PA) , tell me please ! Thanks alot

Hewlett Packard was once the manufacturer of top quality electronic measurement equipment and computers - servers and desktops, have used their equipment for many years.

But that was once, now HP products are at the bottom in quality, like as an other poster said buy Acer, no problems when you need a repair and it won't cost much compared to HP or Sony.

  9. I recently switched to CAT's Hi-Net. I pay about 2.5K a month for a 2MB G.SHDSL line. It really rocks. I had TT&T before, and it was p*ss poor. Well worth changing.

I had CAT hinet on a TT&T line and that was super sh*t worthless, 10 sec up and 60 sec down. No service no refunds, only threats with the MIB if I didnt pay.

Have now since begin this year a new TOT line, and it's ok but in the last week it's very slow here in Phuket.

  10. Its about a brand new Fujitsu Siemens notebook with a German MS Vista version, it doesn't connect automatically with a WPA secured wireless.

Have to go to the network panel and click on diagnose and than a click on the repair function, after that its working fine, but with every startup again the same procedure to get the wireless working.

No new wireless driver available on the support site.

  11. I spend a lot of time on my laptop at home, especially when it's raining which it looks like it will be soon. I don't live in a high rise apartment block, but in one of a bunch of 15 floor blocks. How high is the risk of my laptop being affected by lightning?

I can't run it off the battery as the battery life is laughably short, and being an Apple the power adapter has a big white block on it which I am guessing regulates the charge which may differ from country to country.

Last Wednesday in Patong Phuket experienced my first lightning strike. Started to pull computer cables out when the thunder came so close - stupid yes - before I finished that, lightning hit the telephone line - blew the PBX in the room were I was working and the adsl router - computer and a UPS and I had some pain in my hand...

That was at work, no grounding there and no line protection but that will change now quickly, in my home I have a line protector with a deep grounding pole, and without proper grounding a line protector is useless.

  12. Did you install an XP version with a SPIII release ?, If so and all is pointing to that because SPIII is missing the driver. Try this - you see in control panel - system - device manager an unknown pci device thats missing a driver. You need to download kb888111xpsp2.exe and open this on a pc with XP SPII because it will refuse to install on XP SPIII. Let it run till the first screen, look for a temp directory in the C-root, find the common files folder, there is the driver. Update the unknown pci card with the .inf and install this driver and finally the audio driver for the sound chip.

  13. Anyone know much about Koh Racha ?? My kid's and I are looking for a nice Island close to Phuket in early April for 5 days to hang out and do some diving/snorkeling. I was told Coral Island might not be the best. Any Ideas?

Thank you :o all is appreciated

A very nice island is Koh Yao in the Phang Nga Bay, we just returned from a long weekend and stayed at the Ko Yao Island Resort. Super!.

We hired a speedboat and my two sons were dragged on sort tube by the speedboat and their comment was sanook mak, snorkeling equipment was on board.

  14. How it's possible that any ISP has an open SMTP server, those servers get blacklisted in notime.

It's possible because it's not open.

It's allows unauthenticated connections from the TOT IP range, which is a very normal practice for every ISP who offers a mail server for sending out mail.

The current smtp server (118.175.8.10) does not allow connections from outside the TOT network.

So before making such a statement, check first that you're also correct.

It was more a question than a statement, and is the purpose of this internet forum not educating but to function as a medium for correct statements?. Lets help here each other a bit to understand how things work and why deserves TOT such a courtesy, it has cost a lot of time and frustration trying get the mail working.

  15. How it's possible that any ISP has an open SMTP server, those servers get blacklisted in notime.

Changing mail setting at the mail server of our domains has no effect, the send email from ToT's smtp server never passes this server but the bounces we do receive because the address in from field in the spam is an existing mail account.

I have created a spoofed account for testing and it does work through TOT.

One year ago we received daily 100 Mb spam, and now till the bounce flood we received only a few dozens a day, does the name Joy Suphrata ring a bell?, she sends large attachments and managed to fill the box to the limit.

  16. TOT started to block our domain smtp ports some time ago and however this blocking is sometimes off and on, the smtp server of TOT is not very reliable in mail delivery or is sometimes unreachable.

Two days ago we received 1200 emails back, this were bounces from other mail servers with non existent addresses but with @ourdomain.

Those emails were never send from our computers, and TOT's smtp server is not password protected, don't' know if you can use this smtp server with an other ISP account but anyway TOT smtp server is a SPAM server.

So I tried to explain this to TOT( Phuket Office) but I can't get trough to make them understand the problem.

Is there some contact person of TOT in Bangkok who can handle the situation?.

  17. Am building a pc for a client who wants to run vista, now he is not a gamer so my choice is the GF8600GT for 4000 baht quoted, but I get a lot of broken pc's in for repair so here is a tip for making a choice besides the hardware specs.

If the fan on the GPU blows the air direct DOWN on the VGA card circuit board don't buy this type, the fan airflow deposits a lot of dust/dirt on the graphic card memory chips below and the tracks start to corrode and causes shortcuts.

Now you get three years of warranty on most part of the pc, but after one year you don't get new hardware in return but refurbished stuff, often with problems.

  18. Got an older IBM Thinkpad for repair, not defect but very slow because the thing had 96 MB Ram and Windows XP installed.

Ram was upgradeable to 128 Mb max so little gain there so installed win2000 with Sp4 and yes had to format the drive. After install the notebook was much faster but that was no surprise. In my humble opinion is Win 2000 the best operating system that MS ever has built.

  19. I would use the word capitulation, regarding my attitude twords the service of max net , or drop as I refer to it. I have given up with trying to get help from TTT long ago. When I get shitty service I just find something else to do. I use the internet for pleasure, so no business is lost.

I am curious though. The continual problem of being cut off from the internet connection, or dropped as some refer to it, must mean that there is some kind of problem that could possibly be solved. This has been going on at my home for years now. I have had service to my home and all my connections are fine etc. . Sometimes fine, sometimes forget it. MOst can relate I'm sure.

Is there anyone out there with a technical background that could tell me what the FFFF is going on and why they can't seem to fix it?

It's impossible to diagnose your problem from a distance, but let me point some things.

    1. The ADSL modem/router gets to hot and stops functioning..

    2. The ADSL router stops functioning after some hours of heavy traffic (p2p)

    3. The distance to the dslam is more than 3km.

    4. The telephone line ( in and outside the house) is connected/repaired by twisting the wires.

    5. Sparks by nearby power line isolators or transformer (they blow after a time) cause noise on the telephone line.

    6. The ISP oversold the local bandwidth (check this with your neighbors).

7 Check for green corrosion on the contacts in the telephone and LAN connector plugs (male and female).

Todays event at work: A virus (ldr.exe) flooded the LAN with packets and the ADSL router was no longer responsive.

  20. I had to make another client run because TOT started to block port 587 and the ssl port 465 but the good news is that the TOT's smtp.totisp.net server is funtioning (for now).

In the last month TOT DNS servers had problems, changed in the DNS setting for all pc's, for OpenDNS 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 .
