  1. Some of the units in this development are listed for rent on Airbnb.  Just a thought........  How would you feel about living next door to a unit that has frequent new tenants moving in and having no regard for noise, wear and tear, safety, security, shady drug deals.......or worse.  You can cut and paste the URL below and have a look. Also, what do the condo rules and regs have to say about short term rentals????

I am well aware it is the dry season thank you, and if you actually read my post then you will see there is no complaint in there - I am only asking if anyone knows what the status of Chiang Mai's dams is as in other areas of the country the dams are at very low levels

I Didn't see anything in the OP that seemed confrontational.  There will always be those here in TV who will express negativity.  Let them bubble away in their own cauldron of despair while ignoring them..

  3. Well, maybe if we could see his face someone could identify him!  Traffic is now (excessively)  bad on Sukhumvit and adjoining sois during rush hours.  Chalk it up to gridlock caused by the bridge being closed in one direction during these times.

Maybe the "powers that be" could find a way to take one third to one half of the taxis off the road to improve overall Bangkok traffic.  Perhaps alternate days off.  So many of them are empty and trolling for customers ( whom they often refuse to carry anyway) .  This would benefit the remaining taxis by increasing their business and at the same time remove hundreds of cars from traffic.  Just a thought.

  4. I live close to Sukhumvit Soi 38.  Although some vendors have disappeared from 38, many still carry on operations......on the sidewalk.....every night.  Wondering when they will close down.  Maybe they are paying someone to stay open???  (sarcasm).   I feel sorry for the vendors but......

Now that the sidewalks are cleared of vendors, the motorcycle riders will have more space to run and take down pedestrians walking there.  Maybe the police could find some inspiration and work on clearing the sidewalks of machines....  Posted signs don't seem to be working!

  5. Happy to hear that UBER will continue to serve customers in Thailand.  We use them every time we land at BKK. ( five times in the last six months) Why?  We always pay the same rate each time we go to our condo in the city, we no longer have to deal with "adjusted" meters, the Uber drivers are courteous and safe drivers, and the cars are clean.  Gone are the days of intoxicated or drug addled drivers demanding extra $$ for luggage while providing poor service in sub standard vehicles while traveling at unsafe speeds on the road passing other vehicles in an unsafe manner while using their cell phones for texts and conversations.  Oh, and Uber drivers never refuse a customer!  The Uber drivers are also Thai citizens working hard trying to make a living.  We don't feel we're taking anything away from cadre of taxi drivers, we're just choosing what we believe is the safer path.

I was sitting at my local Thai drinking establishment drinking with the owner and his two police buddies. The topic of poor drivers came up. I asked why the police didn't enforce the laws. The response was not lack of manpower, as I thought. I was told they do enforce the laws, but admitted it was periodically. As we sat there at the corner of two busy streets there were people running the red lights, pulling half-way into the street, driving down the wrong side of the street--I pointed them out as they were happening. The police response was that Thais were so used to driving in that manner, that it would be difficult to stop them. Just as they were saying that two other cops rode by on a scooter, they had run the light and were coming down the wrong side of the street.

At least they were not riding down the sidewalk!

  8. Here's my two cents...

Ask yourself about the BMW.  How has it been running?  Do you have any concerns about any of the systems now!  Have you been maintaining it well?  Regular oil changes, especially in the diesel models, make the difference in terms of the engine.  If you've been aggressive in keeping up on the maintenance and following the factory specs about it, you should be in good shape.  Cars are machines.  They all need maintenance and occasional replacement of worn out parts!

Others have commented that once you leave the BMW behind, the Honda will feel like you're in a "traveling bouncy house."

Suggest  you try taking the Honda you want to buy out for a good test drive.  Spend some time with it.  If the dealer won't do this, try finding one ( or similar Honda model) at a car rental agency and keep it for a couple of days.  Take it out on a road trip.   Check out how it handles on Thailand's roads.  Imagine how the Honda will react during avoidance maneuvers when facing some of the idiot drivers on the roads.  Afterwards, ask yourself how it compares to the BMW, WHILE DRIVING your BMW.

The last car I owned in the U.S. was a BMW.  Now, whenever I travel out of Thailand and I need a car, I rent BMW's from Sixt or Europecar.  The reason?  The Beemer really is "The Ultimate Driving Machine"   The suspension, handling capabilities, and quality of build may just save your life.

Good luck with your decision....whichever way you go.

    Regards!

    I see 2 options:

1 She was Taksin's puppet, so let Taksin support her. He can afford it.

2 Try to get a job at 7-11, if she can pass the interview and if she can learn how to use the cash register and make change.

I think she should open a noodle shop and shlep pork liver to the masses.

FORMER PRIME minister Yingluck Shinawatra said yesterday that the government’s order for her to pay Bt35 .7 billion in compensation would leave her destitute and cause her to suffer severely.

Try telling that to the families of the  many farmers that hung themselves because of your rice scam

  10. Just wondering....... If I push over a motorbike rider as he passes me, and he gets injured, what recourse would he/she have.  ( Short of shooting me or knifing me!)  Maybe we should bring go-pro cameras to the hot spots in Bangkok, record the drivers and their license plate numbers, then post the videos on social media.  This is probably a better option than causing direct injury to them.... but wait.....  what recourse do I have if they hit me, injure me, then ride away into the crowds???

the only thing unlawful was her refusal to do anything about all the money and rice disappearing under her watch, she refused to attend any rice meetings even though she was the person in charge, she refused to accept the truth that money and rice was simply going missing and there was corruption involved even with all the evidence so she has no one to blame but herself. The problem now is she is sh*ting herself she will loose all her (brothers) money and not be able to do her regular shopping trips etc, last thing she wants is to be not rich

Maybe she can open a string of noodle shops

  12. As others have stated..... Lawyers are not absolutely necessary, but if you choose to have one look over the agreements and finalize everything at the land office, I recommend Baker and McKenzie in Bangkok.  I used them when I purchased my condo and I was happy that I did as the RE agent representing the seller was not on the up and up.   The attorney caught some shenanigans and corrected them before the close of the deal.  I paid them about US$3000 to handle everything..a bit pricey perhaps, but they did save my ass in the deal!

  13. Regarding the filing of a tax return for California:   If you list a California address on your bank account you should consider filing a California return.  Advise you look into the California Franchise Tax Board website to determine whether or not you are deemed to be a resident; part-time or otherwise.

If you earn no wages/salary/commissions in California,  your legal address ( as shown on your bank account, driving license, and health insurance) is outside of the State of California ....you may find yourself off the hook in that State.

Look into using TURBO TAX to file online.

Once again, look into it at the FTB website.

A couple of years back there was this TV show called "Deadwood" starring Ian Mcshane and Timothy Olyphant, depicting a town with corruption, drinking, a fair bit of "love" for sale and lawlessness all around.
Supposed to occur around in the 1870' ties.. in the wild west.
    Now, a 150 years later....Pattaya, the wild east !
