  1. Adding Salt, e.g. Sodium Chloride, does little to aid in replacing lost minerals which the body uses as electrolytes.  Sports drinks like Gatorade offer little more in terms of minerals but are better than salt.  Suggest looking at the ingredients of items such as pedialyte, which is an electrolyte replacement beverage for small children, you will find the type of electrolytes you should be replacing when dehydrated.  Salt alone may cause more problems than it is worth!

  2. Notaries Public are certified/commissioned by the Secretary Of State in their jurisdiction (state) in which they reside and practice.  I once made a mortgage with Bangkok Bank in Singapore for a condo in Bangkok while living in the USA.  They accepted documents that I had notarized by a Notary Public in California.  The actual closing took place in Bangkok at the bank's attorney's office......  You will need got check about whether you need to be present in Thailand to close this transaction.

  3. The Sheraton Grande Hotel on Sukhumvit at BTS Asoke has a great buffet.  They offer one on Christmas Eve and another on Christmas Day.  We've been going there for the past three years.  Great food, great selections, (even Caviar and Maine Lobster!) with advance reservations required.  Check out their web site when they post more details....or you can call or stop by if you're in town!

  4. I suggest you look at condos built  between 7 and 15 years ago.  These tend to offer more space.  For example, a 1 BR may offer up to 50 Sq. M. in these buildings where the newer buildings will offer 25 Sq. M for a one bedroom.  The new buildings are overpriced and VERY small in comparison.  Newly constructed building units are now advertising sales of two bedroom, two bath units at 50 Sq.M.  These are t-i-n-y rooms.  The construction on older buildings is also superior to the newly constructed buildings.  I own a one bedroom unit in a building that went up 12 years ago.  It's a low rise building on Sukhumvit Soi 38.  The construction is excellent.  So suggest you look at older buildings before jumping into new ones with infrastructure that is already failing.

  5. I've had nothing but good experiences with Eva Air  BKK-LAX-BKK (via Taipei).  Good service.  Premium Economy seats a tad more expensive but good on the trans-Pacific long hauls.

I wouldn't hesitate to book again!  ....even to Europe or UK.

  6. Thank you to everyone!  The constructive comments are appreciated!

It's always interesting to read the ongoing dialogue between some forum members as they "duke it out" on issues of morality, trust, and failed relationships.... That's what makes the world go around!

I'll be checking for various construction issues that have been brought up as I narrow down my choices.

Best wishes to everyone!   ..and thanks again!

Perhaps the moderators would like to close this discussion now.

  7. We are up here in Cm now, arrived today.  Looking at Land and House development called Inizio, near San Kampaeng.  Looks good.  Anyone have experience with LH?

Thanks for the comments, so far!   At least the constructive ones!!

Also looking at Malada development in Mae Rim.  Seems a bit far, but I do like being out of town a bit.

waiting to hear everyone's two cents!

    Thanks

  8. I've just sold my condo in Bangkok and want to move to Chiang Mai.  I'm beginning to research new housing developments in and around CM and would welcome any constructive, knowledgeable thoughts folks may have about any of the new developments there.  I've been looking on-line  at Malada in Mae Rim among others.  I'll be hot footing it up to CM tomorrow to spend a couple of days looking around in person.

What should I be on the lookout for in terms of building quality, potential problems with developers, etc.  Should I just go to the resale market and forget about new developments???

I have some experience in homeownership in the U.S. and I'm aware that real estate in LOS is a relatively unregulated free for all...so I'm keeping my eyes open and looking over my shoulder at every turn.  If you have positive experiences and/or negative experiences that I can learn from, I would appreciate hearing from you.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. I concur with others ..

Advise you do not risk taking this on yourself.

Call the building manager ASAP and ask to have the building maintenance staff resolve the issue.  It's in the "common area" and is their problem to solve.

Let us know how you make out.
