NOT NEWS: The same thing has been happening for decades in many developed Asian countries. Why does he not know this happens in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong?

Given the gravity of the situation and the 6M votes I am pretty certain he is saying that the Thai’s are a spineless bunch of apathetic drones with no moral compass and no drive and ambition and no ability to think for themselves.
How many students are there in Bangkok? Where were they? All they had to do was go and stand there...there would of been no risk.
Like no risk in '73, '76 and '93 ?

Young people turned out in '73 and '76. Many were killed. The young Thai people of today are angry, but mindful of what took place 40 years ago.

Anyone who believes May is really trying to Leave the EU is kidding themselves. She's a Remainer. There's no way out of the EU. Just ask the French, the Danes and the Irish.

Come Dems, stop this obsession and come up with some policies we can vote for.

People should understand that there is no escape from the EU. Just ask the Danes, the French and the Irish, to name but a few.

The latter WILL happen - its just a matter of time. Time for the selfish jingoistic myopic pensioners to die off (shouldn't be long) and then a new arrangement will eventually be in place.
Brexit or no Brexit, divorce from Europe will only be temporary.
Rubbish. Much better prospects for youngsters outside the EU. Take your blinkers off.

John Redwood is a really good guy. The most genuine and friendly politician I have ever met.

Imagine these Brits would stay in the EU, that would be a total nightmare.
Please go! Anyway you want, just go!
P.S.: I am sorry for the younger generation on the islands. Maybe when their influence gets stronger over the years they can apply for a new EU membership - but obviously without all those special extra rules. Good luck!
Rubbish. They'd be much better off outside the EU. Your attitude is going to limit their prospects, sadly.

Thailand's visa rules are much the same as most other countries. In fact, many other countries are far worse/more difficult. I would say that the easiest route is 800k in the bank for your extension of stay. If you don't/can't do that perhaps better not to remain here.

I don't think any country wants to have a lot of retirees with little money and not paying tax.
Also, most countries do not allow tourists to stay for more than six months.
Your claims do not make any sense at all, because in both Chiangmai and Hua Hin. More and more expatriates are coming to retire there. So much so that the immigration department. In both places have to keep moving to larger premises.
Foreigners have abused the Thai immigration system. So much so that they are tightening the regulations.
They welcome genuine tourists and genuine retirees. I don't know where you live or who you associate with. But I find Thailand a wonderful place with lovely, friendly people. I made the proper decisions to have enough money to retire here as I would in any other country.
Excellent post.

I'm 77 years old, 35 years in Thailand, with a break in Taiwan from '86 to '93. Obviously things have changed here a lot over time, as they have everywhere else. I've no intention to leave Thailand which is still, for me at least, a good place to live and, sooner or later, to die.

I think we all sense serious trouble may result from this. Thai people, especially the younger element, are far more aware of what is going on in their country than previous generations.
