good point about usb power demand.  can try an adapter that adds external power to usb drive in addition to usb mb current.  if it a power issue will an add in pci usb card have more power?

the simple and free test with live ubuntu will give much insight

Yep it will have all the power needed, you have to plug it to the PSU 5V (the same one as for HDD)

  2. I had this a similar USB issue on a previous conf.

The motherboard could not deliver enough power for large USB HDDs, rest was just fine.

For cooling, get a Noctua cooler, expensive but the bests.

Get a better graphic card if needs to.

If you can't fix your USB you can think of buying a PCIe card :https://www.invadeit.co.th/product/computer-accessories/orico/2-ports-usb-3-0-20-pin-internal-pcie-card-pvu3-2o2i-p028434/

You would have 2 back USB ports + 2 internal USB ports.

  3. Tell me about the heat !

I play PUBG and the room where my computer is has no aircon, it's like 45degres in there when i play the game !

The question is, your CPU is heating but are you actually "CPU limited" in game ?

Lots of people think having a newer CPU will improve the performances in games, not at all actually, just few FPS,

A good article to understand the CPU limited urban legend :

    https://www.techspot.com/article/1532-pubg-cpu-benchmarks/

Ex in their test your CPU would have close performances to the i3 8100.

Change your graphic card only at first and see how it does.

Just careful about your power supply, new graphic cards can eat a lot of power.

Now, if you got the money, change everything !

  4. What about the z300 or z250 if you're low on budget ?

Just make sure you don't buy the 250SL (single cylinder) version.

They have pretty good performances for what it is, a bit more expensive that Benelli but they have been around longer and i haven't heard bad things about it.

  5. I bought a water dispenser years ago, best investment ever. 3,000 baht about 5 years ago.

Now i just order 10*5L of mon fleur bottles by tesco online from time to time, fill the dispenser with 3x5L, so it costs me 177 THB / week or 800 THB / month.

+Let's say 200 THB for the electric,  = around 1,000 BAHT / month

Drinking crap "crystal" water would cost around 1/3 of the price per month, so cheaper, yes, is it worth saving 700 THB per month to drink crap water ? I don't know ! not if you can afford not to.

  6. Even the best ABUS disc lock won't last more than 2 minutes and half with a grinder, chains maybe 20-40 seconds.

They're just good anti bolt cutters locks.

So maybe 2 disc locks so they won't be able to move the bike easily, at least they would have to cut one lock before.

If they want to break your steering lock, they will do it in 30 seconds.

But anyway bike thieves are mostly stealing honda waves and stuff like this around here. Never lock my bike (wich ulock or disc lock) in Bangkok.

  7. You are right to worry, computers are opened books and we all tend to have lots of personal information on it now, passport copy, ID, driving license, private emails and so on.

    +200GB of *cough* music.

What kind of upgrade are you doing ? Hardware upgrade ? CPU / motherboard ? Graphic card ?

    Software update / Fix ?

In a general way the more pragmatic would be for you to :

    1) Physically pull out only your D and E drives

    2) Assuming you have a backup, delete all your remaining personal data on your OS (C) drive AND you use a tool like ccleaner / function "wipe drive" => Wipe free space (1 pass or 3 passes)

The tool will re-write / delete data 3 times on all your hard drive empty space.

I could tell you there's a flaw with that method but honestly unless you've done real bad shit or you're a spy or someone's with data worth millions on his computer, the technicians won't give shit about trying to recover your data.

Low level format as suggested is a slow process and complicated to do on the O.S drive, you need to boot on a USB key tool and blablabla, well not everyone can do that.

Besides it's really a bit over reacting.

Doesn't look anything like "admin / tot or admin / password or admin / admin"

It has an upper section called "Internet Connection Type" which has  a user name XXXX@fttxhome, that is a TOT address, and then a password unknown to me, presumably installed by the ToT guy.

Below that is a section "WIFI Setup" and this shows the name of my wifi network and my wifi password. The computer admin password does not show and there is no reference to admin...but this looks like the same setup the toT guy installed.

there are other tabs on that page but none of them show computer admin password or reference admin.

I use Apple Mail. I have already checked the headers and verified that the email originated elsewhere.

    thanks

All right well if it's spoofing, changing your router password or email password is really not necessary,

I don't really know how TOT routers works, it seems that you are logged in as guest, you should have an "admin" or "login" section somewhere in that interface, that's where you have to try to enter the login and password that i suggested you earlier.

If not can you send me a screenshot of that page by MP ?

My internet provider is ToT and they could care less to put it mildly.

How exactly do I go about checking the access of my router? (I do have wifi).

While connected to your wifi open your internet browser, in the address bar type :

    192.168.1.1 and press ENTER

You should have a login page displayed then, by default it should be : admin / tot or admin / password or admin / admin

So login = admin and password either "tot" or "admin" or "password"

Then somewhere in the interface you should have a "management" tab in which you can change your admin password.

BUT like it was said earlier, 99% sure it's spoofing and they haven't hacked anything.

What software or "online interface" are you using to check your emails ? Hotmail ? yahoo ? Outlook ? gmail ?

So i can explain you how to check for sure if it's a spoofing.

  10. You need "Gruyere / Emmental" or "Comte" cheese.

Gruyere & Emmental are pretty similar while comte will taste stronger (more salty / fruity).

You can find some at Foodland, i think it costs like 100 THB / 200GR for the "Emmental" and 200THB / 200 GR for the "Comte"

You'll also find them in some "Super big C".

Forget the cheddar, where it comes to cheese you can only trust the French, Italian or Swiss, don't you ever pronounce the word cheddar / edam / goudda while talking about cheese !! ????

Allan , youve had that Honda nearly 6 months now. Have you or the dealer managed to get it running right/smoothly yet. You said it was bad below 4,500 rpm. Has the vibrations improved any. It should have 6 or 7 BHP more than the Lifan , but not the low rev torque , which is what you said you missed. The Honda also weighes a lot more. Sad you sold the Lifan.

I rented the CRF250L in chiang mai few years ago, that bike is incredibly .... slow and under-powered i could not believe how "bad" it was.

It was like 4 years ago and the bike had a couple of years (not much, it had less than 20,000KM on the clock), seems they have now improved the engine, anyway terrible memories of that bike, i remember the vibrations very well too, or at least my bones do.

Apparently changing the sprocket + putting and exhaust and air filter is a must do on that bike if you want to get any power out of it, or at least for the older models.

You would have papers for them and you could insure them also if the police stopped you they wanted to see that you were insured and had a motorcycle DL.

I doubt if your friend could help now.

Back then to get a green book for registering a bike with no book you had to take the bike to the head ministry office in Bangkok if he didn't do this the book was forgery deception as my CB400SF.

    I'm wondering :

So it's a totally custom model, does it changes the registration process VS an existing bike model which has been imported in parts ?

People who are worried enough about water purity to take action on it, should instead look into levels of particulate matter in BKK and CM air. Especially when driving your scooter in midday traffic. Guaranteed to do more damage than drinking unfiltered tap water.

    True but there's not much you can do about the air pollution except maybe wearing a mask like this ;

Some claims to be able to filter above 95% of PM huuuum.... I wonder how it does in Bangkok when it's 40 degres ....

Just realize you said chiang mai, for the locks i'm pretty sure FURI /X speed / K SPEED would deliver you by EMS.

For the gloves, well, you should try them before so can't advise you on that.

  15. Tap water's pretty safe to drink at 2 A.M when you're wasted & thirsty as hell.

Just buy mineral water, i always drink "Mon fleur", std bottled water treated by osmosis have no minerals.

Really you shouldn't be cheap about water, it's important, forget the 1 THB water killing dispenser machines.

Pretty sure its not bed bugs, as I sleep naked, so would expect to see on legs and ass. Also, missus does not have any problem I also travel to home country every few months, so different beds.

Trust me after 2 years you would know if your bedroom was infested by bedbugs ????

OK, I guess it would be a good idea to change detergent and shampoo for starters.

And a visit to a dermatologist next time in Europe.

+1 my first guess would be a bad reaction to detergent, it happens !

I have once found a very competent dermatologist in Samitivej hospital unfortunately i don't have her name anymore.

If by some miracle i can find her name i'll let you know.

Had a terrible experience with skin issues + Thai hospitals (which 4 of them giving me a wrong diagnosis), our farang skin tends to catch things local never have so it's can be tricky to get the proper treatments / advises here.

Did they took some samples for microscope exam ?

I would advise to try a different hospital anyway, once they have diagnosed something in an hospital, if wrong, you'r doomed forever, they'll stick to that diagnostic and just try to give you different treatments over and over and OVER AND OVER.

By the way, what was it they said you had precisely ?

Most policies I know of are limited to 3 months travel per trip outside of the home country. OK if you travel home 4 times a year, but useless otherwise.

Well sorry to tell you but what you know is incorrect

I think he was probably talking about the standard europe assistance insurance that you can purchase for cheap, it's limited to 3 months - 3 days or something like this , but yes, you also have real travel insurances which can cover you much longer.

This has been an option for getting a new passport from the USA-Embassy in Bangkok for years.  It appears it is now mandatory to do mail-return - which means not having a valid passport for 2 weeks.

Thailand's "foreigner must have a passport at all times" law is enforced very arbitrarily - and with conflicting public-statements from different police officials at different times.  If you have copies of the old one, and the letter from the embassy stating they took it as part of a new-passport process, I seriously doubt the police would keep you in jail on those grounds alone.

Yep i know you pretty much don't risk anything by being here without a passport during 2 weeks but still in the eye of the law this "process" is very dodgy.

You kind of confused me with the "mail return" stuff, can you tell me if :

Do you have to hand over your old passport when you apply for a new one or do you have to hand it back only after receiving the new one ?

Pure curiosity, a bit stunned by that.
