1. Damm i just checked on ebay and they also have crazy prices over there.

KIS 2019 1 year / 3 devices : 15 dollars, i feel like crap now, buying my license full price.

Where did you find that price for bitdefender ? Thanks

  2. I like the fact that Honda is kind of always trying to pull out retro bikes, whether we like the outcome or not but at least they're trying.

    (

Just wish they were more clear about their intentions, just do a true, a true legitimate retro bike.... like the CB1300 (or even the first hornet) or the super four, or the old CB1000, or the big 1, or ...SURE, but :

This bike is fine, it's just standing in between 2 styles, modern but not too modern, retro but not too retro ....

Give us something raw ! yeah, grease on the hands, let us tighten nuts & grease stuff for 2 hrs before each ride.

If you want to make a retro bike, just do a retro bike.... you know.

Hmm. I have a friend in Khon Kaen; another in Mae Sai. Seems like a hassle and still not sure of wait time in those areas. Kinda seems better to either • try some other DLTs in BKK to see about wait times, or • make appointment for next year at Bangchak (very near me). I don't *have to* have a motorbike right away, but would kind of like to get on with it for a couple ideas I have.
It's also about time to take a break from BKK...so maybe I go to Hua Hin or somewhere and maybe rent a bike there for a while.... Actually, just recalled I have a friend in Ban Amphur (past Jomtien)...maybe I could use his address to apply down there (which it seems like would be Pattaya DLT. I guess I'll also look into other 3rd party riding courses....

But wait a minute...I think casually changing my address for a few days/weeks would not be so easy(?) I think you have to show a rental contract or something??

You can book your appointment online somewhere on the DLT website, i have personally posted a link a couple of weeks ago but i can't find it anymore, tried, searched and failed !.

This page is only in Thai but with google chrome you can translate it, right click => Translate to english, now i haven't used it, can't tell if it's working or accurate, but at some point you should be able to get the average waiting time of each DLT, i guess that after filling out your personal data you should have a kind of calendar with the available dates ....

If someone know what i'm talking about please post the link, thanks !

I think Bigwing needs your VIN or customer number or some such to order parts from AP Honda distributor and since your bike wont be in the system, it might be hard for them to order anything. And they wont find the bike and parts lists in there if it was never officially sold in Thailand. So I can understand them a bit. If a bike is bought from a third party importer then in most cases you have to also go to third party shops for service and parts, unfortunately.

    Yes and no.

That time i had printed all the honda parts references i wanted to buy (cause i have all the PDFs parts diagrams).

All they had to do is enter the part reference in their system, and they would have known, 10 seconds.
They can do that, i've seen them doing it before, i've ordered many honda parts like this before in smaller honda shops.

    They just won't give a f****

Pretty sure there is no such regulation but many insurance companies have internal policies to not insurance old vehicles. Many maybe have the cutoff point at 10 years or depending on the milage. As motorcycles approach these ages/milages, chances are they will fail somehow. They are not as sturdy as a car. And your was your Superfour actually ever officially sold in Thailand by Honda or was that one of those grey imports? Is it possible to get replacement parts and repairs from an official Honda dealer? I always liked this model btw, pretty cool looking bike, even today.

I can't find the posts but i'm positive, I've read others users talking about not being able to insure their old but not too old bike.

Can someone help me on thaaaat !? anyone !? aha

For the bike, basically i once went to honda bigwing in BKK to get it serviced, their answer was :

<deleted>**k off, you didn't buy the bike here, we'll only change your oil that's all, so i asked them if i could order spare parts, now lost of spare parts are made in Thailand (even for that model, it shares lots of parts with the CB600 and some other models) :

Answer : F***ck of again, go away, we won't even check in our computer if we have spare parts, you didn't buy the bike here, you didn't buy the bike in Thailand.

That's basically how you lose a 15 Years Honda customer. (yes it's a grey import with green book, probably from Singapore because of the lower ASEAN taxes vs Japan i guess)

I understand they won't bother to service a carburetor bike (they only works on injection) so do carbs tuning or cleaning, but for the spare parts i won't forgive them, NEVER.

I order my parts online through the Impex japan website, really good prices and they just have everything, only problem is you need the parts manual (PDF) to find out the parts number, you can't "browser" your bike parts.

I've never heard of this regulation. Do you have a source? Would be interesting. I'm quite sure you can get first class insurance for bikes older than 4 years. My CBR500R is from 2013 iirc so I guess I could try and see if I could get first class for that bike even though I am not really interested in that as I don't ride it so much anymore.

I wouldn't know where to find out that "regulation" i don't know if it's a law or just something insurers decided to do, i've seen people talking about that in the forum, and when i tried to get a premium for my 12 years old CB400sf i was declined every time.

The thing is that, if you buy a new or recent car, you get a premium insurance, then you can keep your premium insurances for 10 years if you want to, but if you stop it you'r screwed.

    I can't tell for sure if it's 3 years or 4 or 5 or 6 but it's definitely less than 10 years, i'd bet on 4 or 5.

I can vaguely remember someone telling me motorbikes cant be insured for damage at all. Only cars.

    It's that right?

You can but there's a stupid "regulation" and your bike need to be less than, 4 years old or something like this, if it's "too old" then you can't get a premium insurance.

If you get a 2+ / 2 / 3 insurance, the damage coverage is ridiculous, you'll be covered only if you crashed with someone else who got a good insurance and who was clearly wrong (good luck with that you fAAaaarang, you no good diver, no goood you wrong)

  9. Just now, OliverKlozerof said:

A friend told me when you buy a motorbike that you pay, like, B200 for a year of insurance as part of the transaction. (And then pay it again every year when you pay taxes on the bike?)

If this is correct, what does this insurance cover?

Also, one of the reasons I wanted a bike license was to get insurance. Cuz, when I looked into it, no company would offer insurance to someone who was not riding the bike legally (with a proper license). Which seemed kind of "duh," with hindsight. ????

And, (not directly related to this thread but...), anybody know of good deal on a smallish street bike (Click, Wave or similar), in BKK?

That would be the compulsory insurance (CTPL), doesn't cover much, you need to buy another "on top" insurance, you will find insurers inside and around any DLT (normally ...).

They have different grades for different prices and coverage , 1,2,3,4 etc.

Not against the law to not have insurance, I doubt deportation would occur, but I'm on your side. Insurance should be compulsory for everyone on the road, and not just personal injury insurance.

But that would take an authority office to execute a plan. So not likely to ever happen, like the compulsory travel insurance for foreigners. chatter

You guys have serious issues understanding when people are joking ....

    Just found this link..

Might prove useful if it's what it says it is.

    Interesting !

First i thought : forget it, changing the headlight is gona be way too expensive,

Then thanks to your link i found those one marked as compatible with my bike :

    https://www.amazon.com/Headlight-Daymaker-Davidson-Motorcycle-Softail/dp/B07FNRTQB5/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1541494748&sr=8-1&keywords=cb400sf+headlight#customerReviews

    50-60 dolls for that !? unbelievable !

Small problem : seems to have very specific LED and neon light inside, when they die ... you'd have to throw away that headlight.

That one is .... Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :

Once again bring plenty of patience and apply deodorant before you arrive in the morning. You must provide your own scooter for the "driving" test but they are available to rent.

Right, don't forget that one !

So i guess if you live in a small town and or if you're lucky, like you arrive on a day where eventually some people didn't show up, you can go do it straight ... ?

    But basically :

    Pattaya : 1 DLT for 320,000 people

Bangkok : 5 DLTs for 9,000,000 people (1 DLT for 1,800,000 people) not including all the persons not officially being registered as living in Bangkok but who will still use Bangkok DLTs

    What insurance?

My Thai bank account has a few hundred baht in it. Your insurance will have to pay and then sue me to recover all that I have in the bank.

Strange how things work out in life.

And hopefully you would be deported for intentionally driving without insurance. Would you take this same attitude when driving in your own country?

Yes, I knew there would be eye test, reflex test, video, driving test, etc., since I did those in 2010 (because I had no valid foreign license). Again, my sticking point this time seems to be her requiring me to have a foreign license (which seems to contradict my getting an auto license in 2010 *without* a foreign license). So, I wonder if using my Thai auto license to acquire an International Driving Permit would appease her?

But it does look like one must have an appointment. So, I wonder: Does anyone know if currently Pattaya or some other area has either instant appointments? Or, even a 1 or 2 day wait might be doable.

BTW, I googled 'honda safety driving park,' and found their site. But apparently they only have these in Chiang Mai and Phuket. Anyone know if Yamaha or some other company has training facilities in BKK?

She must have asked you for your foreign DL because she was confused, you were confusing ????

You walk in there with no appointment and with the expectation to get a D.L "right away", that's only possible if you already have a valid foreign motorcycle driving license (or if you're renewing your thai DL), that's why she keep asking you for your DL and then later understood you had none so you're required to book an appointment.

Doesn't matter if you got a car license, that's a different story, different driving exams i think that even the traffic rules exam is different for motorcycle vs cars, can someone confirm that ? (or not!)

I remember i had to wait 4 month and half to get my appointment ... good luck with yours.

I should have put "training" into quotes. It is indeed very rudimentary what they do at the DLT. You watch a video, maybe the staff will ask someone a question... that's pretty much it. At

True, i do remember that the cop asked me something, answer was "phud thai mai dai khrap" i killed the talking right here ! no more questions !

While it definitely seems sensible, this is the first I've heard you actually need to go through training to get a bike license.

A few weeks ago I started a thread here saying that I already had a Thai auto license, wanted a motorbike license, and what do I need to do?

    https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/1056853-have-thai-car-license-now-aiming-for-motorbike-license/?tab=comments#comment-13354999

No one mentioned the need for training sessions. One guy said, "Walk in the park.. just make through the video presentations."

I also watched some videos online of the procedure, including people riding their bikes on a very simple test course, and there was no mention of training. Huh.

Ahaha, goint through a "training" ????

(what's up with that smiley !? it's huge!)

I get my DL 4 years ago, didn't had any license same as you, so i did all the tests no driving training required for motorcycle DL, you go straight to the test track, you'r not training at any time before, there's probably some optional courses, but if you chose to you can just go straight to the exam (unless the process changed since 2014?)

If i remember properly, once you got all your paper ready and booked the appointment at the DLT ,the "tests" orders are somewhere like that :

    1) Color test (20 sec test)

    2) Depth perception test (20 sec test)

    3) Watch a 1Hr video about traffic rules etc, sometime you have policeman popping in the room and talking about road safety.

    4) Grab a book at the DLT and learn about the traffic rules, then go test, you can try 2 times per day until you got it right.

If you fail, you'r able to view your incorrect answers at the end of the test, keep that in mind, there's not 1 million of different questions in there, if you fail 1 or 2 times you'll see it's always the same questions coming back.

    5) Once you have your traffic rules test validated, you can go to the drive test track, that's a 2 minutes drive, you'll see most of the people there are coming ... with their own bikes (sure, why not !?)

I just hope they changed the individual screens for the traffic rules test, that was a nightmare when i passed the test about 4 years ago, couldn't see anything on it, failed twice because of that.

Try webike Thailand site and it gives you a good rundown on the ones others use here.

    Ignore the prices.

And pick a identical part or almost a identical copy elsewhere.

But Honda cb400 comes up on there. ????

I'm ex Ford product development and lighting was part of my product line up.

Will have a look there ! Tx.

I've just seen that there's some new Philips halogen "racing vision" which seems to be delivering pretty good performances for halogen tech !

They have a pretty short lifespan though .... 200 hours ... and i can't turn off the headlight on my bike .... and quite expensive ... huuum dilemma ...

I wonder what happens when your bulb burns out and you're driving around mae hong sond at night ????

  18. 1 hour ago, johng said:

I think maybe because my headlights are old style ? p15d ? not H4 so the connection is different.

My previous bulb was just a plain old filament 35Watt bulb...( the LED says 30Watt)

I like the white light as opposed to the yellowish filament light.. LED seems to me stronger and clearer for a longer distance..I took some time to adjust the headlight at night against a wall at various distances to try set it up so as not to be blinding everyone..but its probably unavoidable even with the new factory standard fitted motorbike LED they bounce over a speed bump and "pow" right in your eye.????

Also I left the other filament bulb as is so I can have that running during the day and or at police check points....then switch to Hi beam LED for a longer clearer look ahead.

Yes that worried me too in the end I didn't cut any wire or remove the existing plugs or sockets just cut away enough of the wire insulation to splice in the LED bulb wires, soldered them and wrapped with "self amalgamating tape"

Naaah are you saying that there's bumps on the Thai roads ? Unbelievable !

I got a 1970 style yellow ugly / under-powered bulb too (Halogen) now, after some google research it seems that HID bulbs just do better on reflectors headlights vs LED ?

Really need to get something brighter but don't wana be that di**head who's blinding everyone, would appreciate if i hadn't to cut anything in my headlight to fit the new bulb too ????
