    Yep there's some full face helmet with decent field of view now, but otherwise 99% of them will still lose vs a Jet helmet.

     

    Which model of LS2 is that by the way ?

    I think your KTM has an excellent set up with its ABS settings.

    That's really good, you don't have any settings on must of the bikes, it's just ON or remove the fuse (well that's only if your bike has a dedicated ABS fuse anyway).

    You'r the bike behind a car and the guy is like yah you know what, i can do it, starts to rev, plenty of time to go through, you'r like that's my boy let's do it bro, gear down, revs UP, and then ...then the car guy would be yaaah you know what ? changed my mind, i'm good, stopping now..

     

    And you'd be like, Oh-boy i see how it us, UH-OH okay, okay, fine well tell my kinds i love theeeeem.

     

    Eventually you manage to stop your bike on time, you're just gonna need fresh underwear and pants.

     

    So basically don't do that ! It would be the rules 16 (yours) and 17 (that one) on my list ????

    When driving straight on a dry road i brake the same way with both ABS and non-ABS bikes, i try to hit the 99% break pressure point just before the wheels lock. In case the whees should lock, it's not a too big deal because i don't risk to fall.

    When i'm driving on a slippy road, or am in a curve, or both, i definitely brake different. If the bike has ABS i don't mind pressing the brake hard (trying to hit the 99% point again), because i know if my wheel locks the ABS kicks in and safes my ass. If i'm on a bike without ABS i use the brake way softer in this situation, because i'm afraid to lock the wheels and fall, this does of course make the distance i travel before comming to a stop way longer than necessary

    Well yes and know,

     

    ABS is good, no doubt about that, but on some models it just sucks in some situations :

     

    it can kick in way too early at low speed, the feeling is awkward but that's not the problem, the problem is that it can really sucks at low speed because you don't get the braking power that you were expecting, the bike just goes and goes cause of the ABS releasing some braking power.

     

    Now i've seen that only at low speed, all good at high speeds.

     

     

    Definitely not the case for all the bikes, but on some at least it really is, anyone has experienced this also here ? On which model ?

    Is that 70 PSI in a Honda wave or i am dreaming ?

     

    It's not uncommon here to over-inflate the tires, i often see people putting 40-45 PSI in their honda wave while my 200KG bike requires and is very fine with 33 PSI.

     

    But 70 ..... WOW just WOW, i wonder how it feels with 70PSI and you need to brake on a wet road ????

    It is obvious that there is a 'certain way' that we learn first-hand on Thai roads to be mentally prepared for that the FOBs don't know who end up mangled in hospital after renting scooters who assume they drive same as back home.

     

    As in...all the quirks/crazy habits that occur on the roads...

    A top 20 (or 50 !) things to watch out for here....if it can save one life it would be worth it !

    My top :

     

    1) Overall rule Never take anything for granted, red light, green light, one way, priority doesn't means anything here.

    2) Always check your mirrors and blind spots when you change of lane and use your turning lights (basic right ?)

    3)  Watch out for the "widow makers" u-turns, every 1km in the countryside and everywhere in Bangkok

    4)   It's not because someone is driving in the 2nd or 3th lane in a x4 that's he's not gona turn left or right straight in your face at the next intersection

    5)    When you stop at a red light and there's no or few cars behind you in the countryside, keep your eyes on the mirrors, truck's maybe coming for ya.

    6)     Do not honk unless it's absolutely vital or you'r sure that you can win a fist vs machete fight. Preventive honking is fine, angry / abusive honking and get ready for a fight

    7)      Do not shout / insult people whatever they did or say for the same reason as point 6)

    8 )      What's done is done, you won't travel back in time, don't get upset, don't take the others bad behavior too personal, same as 6)

    9)        Always keep your eyes on the road, dirt, bumps, oil, slippery roads are everywhere

    10)        If you avoid a close crash, don't waste time looking at the car and complaining while driving, keep your eyes straight on the road you don't know what's coming in front of you.

    11)         Never drive on the first left lane if you can, that's where the road is <deleted>*** up and where every buses / taxi / tuk tuk / songteo are gona pull over.

    12)         Watch out for the cars door opening if you'r overtaking a car by the left (sidewalk side), i know you shouldn't do it, but it just happens.

    13)          If you drive a manual bike, not an AT scooter always use the proper gear in order to have some engine braking, I've too often seen crashes where guys are doing 60 in 4-5th gear and they just crash as a fat ass buffalo because they can't brake properly.

    14)           Do not listen music with earphones, you need to hear what's around you (i know right, but i know many people who do this)

    15)            You can't always be wearing full gears (jacket, backpack, gloves, boots, pants) but at least ride with a proper helmet and some gloves, if you hesitate to put your hands on the ground when you crash because you don't have any gloves, it's not gonna end well for you.

    16)            Keep your bike in a good shape, don't be cheap on brake pads / chain and sprockets at least.

    17)             Do not ride too close to a vehicle too high where you can't see what's coming in front of it, they often pull hard left / right at the last second to avoid something on the road and you won't have time to avoid it.

     

    Okay i think it's pretty solid list already, i'll edit later if i find something else.

    There's also MAJOR criteria to consider that people for somehow tend to forget, the field of view :

     

    Where is the OP going to ride ? Bangkok ? Another big city / mainly downtown ? or countryside ?

    Bangkok : i threw away my full face helmet very fast, reason is simple : 

    It's all about the field of view in Bangkok / big cities, and you get a much MUCH wider field of view with a Jet helmet  vs full face, and that is a game changer in Bangkok.


    That field of view is gonna save your ars LOTS of time in a crowded city like BKK, it's passive vs active protection, from time to time i use my full face helmet and it scares the hell out of me in BKK because you can't see sh*** of what's coming on the sides and that's where most of the danger is waiting for you, you get an extra 1 or 2 to react with that Jet helmet wider field of view.

     

    Also, a full face helmet will / should save your life "more often", however that idea is based on the fact that if and when you crash you will be fully geared, jacket, pants, boots, gloves, if get involved in an accident without gears but where a full face helmet is gonna save your life vs a Jet helmet, then you'll probably die of body injuries anyways.

     

    And who here is wearing boots, gloves, jackets and pants and a strong backpack for a 10-20 KM downtown ride ?.

    The small "daily routines" rides is actually when you crash and die (i think it's like 75% death for daily rides vs 25% death for longer rides).


    Now that field of view point of view is for city riding, for long countryside trips it's another story, I'd go for a modular helmet so you can enhance your field of view downtown and close it when you ride a bit faster in the countryside.

    Sure it's a bit heavier / uncomfortable + ugly when it's opened but it's a good compromise.

    I'm looking for feedback from people who "recently" had some help from lawyers or "agents" in order to register their new SME business in Bangkok.

     

    I know they all kind of offer the same classic A-Z package which includes everything from name registering to VAT registration and so on (that's what i'm looking for at least).

     

    Would be more like general questions :

    How long does the process takes Days ? Weeks ? Months?

    How much would a standard SME (51 % thai / 49% foreigner) business registration costs ? Not asking for a precise price, i know it all depends, but overall how much would be a fair price at +/- 20% ?

    What's your lawyer / agent's name and website ?

    What else !?


    Yah i know "you could do it yourself" please no, i'm willing to pay to get it done properly.

    He would have drowned like a stone if so.

    I'm glad i get rid of it, my father, among all the crazy bikes he had in his life always told me the bike that scared the shit out of him the most was his old 70CC Honda dax, totally understood that 20 years later when i bought my MSX.

    (and he drove hayabuza and all sort of crazy stuff starting from the 70s). The tiny wheels have decent grip ... until they ain't got any anymore.

     

    Not saying the guy on the video wasn't going too fast, but it would probably not have happened with another 125CC bike.

     

    And yah, it seems that he had a small combo there, metal plate + oil or water or whatever.

    As long as you pay the overstay fine they will probably still allow a late applicantion.

    Probably depends of the IO but a couple of years ago i had 1 or 2 days of overstay and when i applied for an 30 days extension at Nontharburi i had to pay the fine + the 1,900 THB and they gave me only 7 days instead of 30 because i applied too late, so ...

     

    Wasn't really a good day !

  14. I have been using Michelin pilot road 3 and now 4 : these tires are just SO amazing, very versatile, excellent grip, good feedback, long life, there's nothing wrong i can say about. they're really perfect all around / all weather tyres.

     

    Now i think it costed me about 8,000K + for my CB400SF so it would be even more expensive on your bike.

     

    I'm maybe picking up my bike at the shop today, they have a pricelist paper with all their tires, i'll try to take a picture (if i don't forget ...)

    Difference for the process / paperwork ? Not at all.

     

    I couldnt get the 5 years because i was on tourist visa that time (i guess?)

    It's the closest to where i live, i can't tell for the others DLT regarding the video timetable.

     

    When u go there, whichever DLT, maybe if you can take a picture of the timetable and post it somewhere would be nice.

    Yes, it is.

     

    Trust me, i renewed mine 2 month ago and it was expired since 1 year (-) 1 day, it expired on 25 September 2017 and i renewed it on 24 September 2018.

    No "no-no" no question asked.

     

    Same price, no penalty, can't recall precisely but it's like 120 baht or something (for motorcycle D.L at least)

    And you get a 2 year temporary D.L now, not 1 year like before.

     

    And no ... i didn't drive with an expired D.L, i was away + didn't drive until i had my new DL when i was back.
