  1. Sorry, one more question.

Seen a few posts on the main visa forum regarding showing money when re-entering. Do you have any thoughts/knowledge on this?

I read on the website that you may be asked to show 10,000Bt. Other posts I have read elsewhere have stated that some have been aked to show 20,000Bt

  2. Hi guys. Anyone know the status regarding doing a visa run at Tachilek?

Asking on behalf of a guest(and future guests) at our hotel. Can you still go over? How many days do you get? 7/14/30 days, if any??

    Thanks in advance,

                                        Stuart.

    P.S. Ye it's me. I'm still around

  3. Yep, its been a while.

Hello to all. Was told by a Dutch person a few days back that the border crossing at Mae Sai was closed. She didn't know why.

Can anyone please confirm for me whether this is the case. Or is the border still open?

Asking on behalf of a recent aquaintance who just wants to go across. Not for a border run. Just to see Tachilek. Not much to see I know, but at least he can say he was in Myanmar.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can put me straight.

    Regards,

    Stuart.

  4. Can't help you with the resin. But for fibreglass sheeting, past the old bus station just after the repair shops on the right hand side, there is at least one shop where they will cut sheeting of various thickness to the size you require.

Also going north, past the Meng Rai monument, I think there is a similar type shop on the right side after you make the first U turn.

Perhaps they can advise you regarding resin you can mix yourself.

    Hope this helps.

  5. I`ve seen it done on one farm up here in Chiang Rai. All the trees as far as I could see came out fine.

Personally, I wouldn`t have the bottle to do it to my trees for obvious reasons.

If it`s a common practice in your area Captain then I don`t see why not. Be sure to let an experienced guy to the cutting for you is all I would say.

  6. Help me out guys. Where is Streetview facility on the google earth homepage?

I`m sure I`ve used that facility before on Google Earth, but for some reason I cannot see it.

Probably because its right in front of me lol.

    Thanks in advance,

    C35B.

  7. Thanks mistephenso. I read the thread. I think even in N.Korea and Iran, they would allow a few foreigners to strum guitars and sing in a bar without criminalizing them. Ok, maybe not those two countries, but in most. Led Zeppelin's Page and Plant did an informal solo gig for a few days in a club in India (before LZ was famous). They didn't get busted.

A number of years ago, I gigged solo in Mexico (playing guitar in two clubs, for some payment). A few weeks later, authorities told me to wrap it up, as I was an illegal alien. Then I had to subsist on corn tortillas and bananas for 3 weeks, as my money dried up.

Was it the bananas curved over the top of your head?

  8. Hi all, can someone do me a favor and watch this vid. My signal is just to slow and the net drops out ever few minutes. Even this I have to type in notes and just keep trying to post.

It's a tapping knife and if it looks good I will go to town and watch the vid tomorrow. Thanks Jim

    Hi Jim.

Watched the video. The main premise of this knife is that it cuts a thinner layer when tapping. So as to enable one inch of vertical bark to be tapped 20 times as opposed to say an average of 10 times, but still cutting the latex vessels enough to release the latex. Thus prolonging the tapping life of the section you are cutting.

Will it take off? the "Supertab" looked like it was gonna be the next best thing but it has disappeared into the wilderness as far as I know.

My brother in law ordered one a long time ago and is still waiting.

You still have to have the required skill not to cut too deep into the tree. There was no mention of a limiter, if you like, that prevented that. Which was the basic premise of the Supertab knife as far as I am aware.

There was also no mention of how often you have to renew the blade, what the lifespan of the blade was, etc.

    Watch this space.

P.S. there was also mention that this is a 2010 video I think, so if it was gonna be that popular, it would be in all the rubber paraphernalia shops already.

Anyone else had experience of this knife.

    Stuart.

  9. "[As for the money which was stolen, I got 11% of it back. Cops claimed it was all they found, though I can't be sure, because there was a 3 hour discussion about the money (to be given to me) between the cops and the two women friends of mine who were there also.]"

Can you elaborate on this? Are you suspicious of the cops or your two women friends?

  10. Where do I sit?

    On your butt!

Seriously, would there be any danger of putting some more information in your posts?

You're asking for help, so at least try and make it easier for people

who can help you by putting some info in the 2nd line. It's been viewed

over a 100 times and this has been the only reply.

Topics like this one and one of your others titled "How long", really help

    no-one.

    It's not that hard.

    Regards

    Will

Seems to me that Robert is asking for information. The question gives all the information that a potential poster requires.

    So here goes!!

As far as I am aware, you sit your motorbike/car tests at the same place where we obtain our licences.

Driving north out of town on the highway, cross over the bridge that spans the Mekok and turn right at the traffic lights on the other side of the bridge.

Go straight till you reach the next set of lights/intersection. A left turn there would take you to the airport. But you want to go straight on. after about a kilometer, the 2nd large building on your right is where you want to be.

Unfortunately, at the moment there are roadworks at the traffic lights after the bridge. And you may not be able to turn right. So an alternative way is to turn right at the King Meng Rai statue, drive past the sports stadium and turn left at the new intersection/lights there. then go right at the next intersection. Same again, 2nd big building on your right..

If you are not sure which building, just ask when you are in the vicinity for "khon song"(sp) You will get there.

If you already Have a bike licence they may not require you to sit the test.

Cannot remember the requirements for the car licence as it has been a few years since I got mine Robert. It may be the case that you need to have a 1 year visa to obtain your car licence(non "O" or similar). Perhaps somebody else can clarify this.

    Hope this helps,

P.s. Its strange that you send Robert your regards after telling him to sit on his butt

  11. Fight among each other to get the most responses. I believe in reality.

Erm, you "believe" in an invisible man in the sky and use that stick to beat everyone with until they come around to your way of thinking.

You are a dangerous person who is far removed from "reality".

And this invisible man needs money, lots of it. He cannot handle money, just like the OP. That is why the church always needs more and more and more. To build the big houses and buy the 4x4 pickups that are imperative aquisitions required to enable the christians over here to give lots of help to the underprivelidged hill tribe people etc.

  12. chang35baht is not a moderator....although maybe he thinks he should be.

Most people here do not object to a post like this once. Forum rules do ban commercial links but it is for a moderator to enforce that if needed. I just take this as a listing of a new place to eat.

Have to try the food sometime.

Ben posted in two different threads about the same restaraunt Harry. So it was obviously a plug for his restaraunt. He even worded them differently. And no, I dont think I should be a moderator. Never have thought, never will think. It was just a friendly bit of advice, as you may derive from the wording in my post.

So there was no need for your snide comment. I thought you were above that harry.

    Obviously I was wrong.passifier.gifcoffee1.gif

P.S. good luck with the business Ben.

thanks for the good wishes with the business, i hope my lack of forum etiquette is not going to cause a falling out. anyway i get it sorry about the misunderstanding it would be good if they had a place where you could list your business without getting a friend to place a post. thanks again for the advise and thanks to harrry for sticking up for me.

  15. I second that opinion. We the Farang are just temporary guests if that was not so why would you have to report to immigration every 90 days to update where you are residing even after you have obtained your non immigrant O visa for a years stay.

Philosophically, you could say every person in Thailand is a temporary guest. Certainly temporary. If people own the property here, either privately or via public entities, they should take better care of it. Trash is nearly everywhere. The biggest losers: local flora and fauna. The only wild mammals in northern Thailand are bats and rats. Is Environmental husbandry taught in Thai schools? Should be, along with Garbology (the science of dealing responsibly with trash).

This must have something to do with buying condos.

Back on subject, remember that the condo you buy is for life. Based on experiences in other parts of Thailand, you shouldn't expect to make a profit on selling a condo. No one will want your used condo when they can buy a brand new one.

I think garbology was the relevant word in the above post El Hefe.

    C35B.

  16. Same as that. Been here a few years back.

Yes, adultery is a criminal offense in Thailand, but I'd advise you don't go down that route, especially threatening the guy with legal action. It's likely you're in a particularly unsafe situation right now. I have been here to and narrowly avoided death by tuna jacket potato (with added poison).

Best off get hold of a good lawyer (Issan Lawyers if Sebastian is still about) if there's a lot a stake but get ready to write most of it off, okay all of it in reality. You could look at putting real estate (chanote land title) in your children's names, there's no minimum age a Thai national can own freehold (unless this has changed). At least then it goes to the kids, but there's a legal procedure for this I believe in the family court and can be fraught with problems. Legal 'Trusts' do not exist in Thai law. (Stop laughing at the back!)

You seem calm enough. This is the best way to deal with this. You're number one priority is to have the mindset that everything should be in the best interests of the children. As well it should. Because without you fighting their corner, the future could be bleak. It's no joke that country.

I was lucky in that mother-in-law and the rest of the family are salt of the earth types and all ended well enough, considering. Mum sorted it all out and I'm happy the kids will have a good future. I pop back when I can and Mum keeps "my" house for me so I have somewhere to go. Apparently she's very worried about me back in the UK. Who knows??? The whole thing's utterly potty, but I still regard that kind little village as home and miss the kids terribly.

    Good luck.

Wow. Death by tuna jacket potato. The depths to which some people will go. A horrific thought indeed.
