  1. Is it possible to buy a longer pole for my brush cutter? or an extension/attachment even. Does it even exist?

The reason i am asking is it would make my life a lot easier when cutting the slopes around my fish ponds. My old leg muscles are taking a pounding trying to negotiate along these slopes whilst cutting. Already having turned the grasp handles to 45 degrees helps a lot, but a 2-3 ft longer pole would make it a lot easier.

    Chang35baht.

  2. Most of the hill tribes are well set up already with funding from various charities from around the world.

Coming to Thailand and seeing how they live is a big culture shock for many and want to help where they can , however , most things are in place for them already or they know where to go .

As for the Akha people along with Lisu , Lahu and all the others, theres about 90 different

ethnic tribes throughout Thailand , most dont get any help at all from the governments here

unless of course they have the Thai ID card or papers. Hospital care, schooling etc is not possible , yet in the villages they have set up their own schools and clinics or know where to go for aid.

Travel is strictly out of the question also , as to be caught in town without an ID card will

result in a fine and possible deportation .

We as foreigners see the problems but as foreigners we have no say , its not our business . We would react as many countries do with the influx of foreigners entering your own countries without papers ,

    America/Mexico , Europe /Western Bloc etc etc .

If we were caught living here without papers etc etc we would be deported , thankfully the Thais allow the tribes to stay as long as they do not depend on the state. I think even though we feel there are many

poor people here, I would say personally that in this country they are far better off than

those of Africa and India etc . My advice is if you want to help , do so , but beware of being scammed.

  3. Cup lump 69 baht/kilo yesterday in Chiang Rai.

Thanks Chang! Any word on USS prices in CR?

BTW - Would you happen to know the most recent news about the Chiang Saen "collection point" of rubber for export " to the north"? My S - I - L is involved with the "co-op" for the north at the Amphur level and so far, everything sounds upbeat....

Hi Scott, do you have any more info on this collection point in Chiang Saen. Not too far from me really and am trying to find out where to get the highest price at the moment. If you have a location/address for me I will take a drive up and have a reccie.

    Many thanks,

    Stuart.

    Hi Stuart,

Just asked my wife and she checked with her sister (my SIL). The story is that the "godown" is still being built but it's quite near the dock on the river (tah luea). I'm afraid that's all I know about it at this time.

    BR,

    Scott

    Ok Scott thanks for thay.

I shall endeavour to find out where the people who buy from us go to sell.

    Regards,

    Stuart.

Not made USS yet as I am in the process of making the workshed on the farm at this moment. Should be finished in the next few days. So at the moment we are just content to make cup lump. Adding the thickening agent just in case it rains and washes it away.

Will start to make sheets in Sept/Oct after rain season, unless we get lucky with the weather and can collect the latex wet.

If I have any other info I will post as it comes in.

  6. Hi mat7. Welcome to the forum.

I was sure I had seen a request in this forum from someone who was looking for others to have some jam sessions but I cannot find it. So, I would advise contacting brahmburgers using the messenger function at the top of your page. He plays some and may well know several others in town who do. You may not be able to get "lessons" from any of them. But if some of them get together to play and you can join them, that may help to pick up some tips and learn some licks. If you have trouble using the messenger function in this forum, then post here about that and I will show you how to do it. I would guess that playing with other knowledgeable people is about as good a learning experience as you could get.

Contact brahmburgers. He knows a lot of stuff and a lot of people. Here is the link to his profile page:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/user/10297-brahmburgers/

If you can find brahmburgers, then you will probably meet up with another good forum member, chang35baht. He and brahmburgers are pretty tight. I am thinking that where you find one, you will find the other. They are pretty much inseparable, as far as I can tell.

  7. Yes, but no two farms are the same. So it is difficult to make comparisons.

So, I think you should start us off by letting us know how much your farm is making per tree/day/week/month.

  8. I am told that the sign says, basically, thanks to the man who is making this happen. However, skepticism abounds and people say it is the same thing that has been publicized and pushed as a real deal for fifty years. In one form or another, it gets pushed out in front of the public periodically and each time is heralded as an accomplishment, even though it has yet to come to pass.

Usually in times of elections to gain favour with the electorate. I think the lady in the picture is a local politician with various business interests in CR, not least of which is the continual pumping of sand out of the Namkok at various locations along the river.

  9. Accessing the Router's Web-Based Setup Page

The default IP address is 192.168.1.1.

Leave the user name field blank. The default password is "admin" without the quotes.

I just went to 192.168.1.1 and tried your suggestion, and the sign in block keeps popping back up asking for a username and password. I think the problem is that there is already a username and a password associated with this router. We know the username but we forgot the password.

Is the password not the phone number for the line being used????

  10. It is quite clear to some that the main contributory factor in the OP not forming his post to the satisfaction of some, is in fact his lack of proficiency in the subject being queried.

I am no angel on TV as some of you already know but jeez, give the guy a break.

  11. Renting our first house in Thailand. One of our neighbours was an old school chum of my girlfriend who was called "Nom". My tonal expertise being what it was at the time, every time I saw her I was asking her " Nom sabai dee my krap? What I was actually saying to her was " How are yout t#ts today?

3-4 of these daily hellos later, she had to visit my GF to tell her how to pronounce her name better.

Done the "Hee Mah" one also to howls of laughter.

  12. The TOT line is for internet only. I do have a TT+T line for phone only.

The TOT line Does terminate outside next to the TT+T line. From there to a conventional rj45 socket indoors.

I installed my own "spring loaded double action HW snapswitch" to increase my "DSL intensity". It seems to be working ok.

Who is arguing. I only stated what I see in front of me on my computer. As I stated in my post;"So decent speeds are available if you are lucky enough to be in the right locations", You do not have to tell me I am lucky when I have already told you the same thing.

And it must be a miracle when we are dicussing this very topic that another freak of nature occurs and I am obtaining the speeds that I have stated.

I suspect that the OP has not been back online as he is already receiving criticism rather than help from certain people.

Oh, and by the way, my screen shot was taken wirelessly from my laptop whilst sitting outside in my sala drinking my morning coffee.

  14. CMjantje, what in the OP indicates to you that he/she is trolling?

Raylo. My normal download speed in Bahn Namlat is well over 5Mbps. only slows down a little when the kids get out of school. Between 3-6 pm say. Our TOT line is an existing dedicated line, not 3BB, that was originally installed on the old 3-4 Mbps tariff. It has steadily been increased as TOT has seen fit to do so,No phone is connected to this line. So decent speeds are available if you are lucky enough to be in the right locations.

    Paul888, good advice.

  15. Thought I would post my conclusion to my blocked drain. I could not find anyone in Chiang Rai that unblocks drains and started searing for the spiral drain cleaner. I eventually found one in Homebase and after a few hours of poking, hot water and some chemicals, I got it cleared.

It was full of what looked liked cooking fat.

The spiral was 350 baht and if anyone wants to borrow one, I will be happy to lend it.

Similar to the one below but only 5 metres.

Thanks for posting that. I keep a list of where is that item!!! With no adverts here to help locate, I try to keep a list of where is what for future issues.

Next is to locate a tap and die set, wish me luck HaHaHa

Tool shop behind Overbrook, near the corner where they sell fresh fish everyday.Welders and pumps on display outside and at the side. Pretty sure I have seen a tap and die set in there

    Good luck

  16. Here`s an idea. You`ve bought 50 rai with rubber trees on. Yes around 50% is a high failure rate. But, as the trees are only a year or so old why not replant and try to maintain them properly. 50 rai will bring in a healthy bit of pocket money in 6 or 7 years when the trees are ready to be tapped.

I know it is a long wait, but in the long run I suspect that the income from the rubber will be better than the income from sugar cane.

In 6/7 years the price of rubber will almost certainly be higher than it is now.

But be forewarned that the first years are the most expensive in the rubber farming business and a lot of hard work is involved.

Just something for you to consider Canada.

    Good luck,

    C35B.

  17. First one I bought was a Makita backpack style with flexible spring drive(2 stroke). good reliable machine but didn`t like the handling. Harder to shift weight/power when cutting thicker grasses/brush as hands were in line with the shaft. Also no spring return throttle/trigger so no quick revving and increasing power when it was required. A well engineered machine nevertheless.

Last 7 years have been usung a Robin 2 stroke traditional style and have been very happy with it in all conditions. Cant remember the cost as it was way back.

Thai cousin came to help me one day and brought his cheap Chinese version. Absolute rubbish. No power, poorly balanced so the blade end vibrated when being used causing me to only be able to work in short bursts. Wasn`t the blade as it was fine on my machine.

Regardles of which type you buy, you get what you pay for.

I guess any one of the top 3 would be ok. Honda,Makita or Robin.

Don`t know if Honda still do 2 strokes but in my experience they have slightly more power over 4 stroke.

    Hope this helps.

  18. It has not stopped raining for 2 days where I live, I cant remember when the last time it rained in March like this . Certainly the weather in the world is changing, snow will be here later I think , it feels cold enough for it . :D

For sure, this has got to be very unusual for March, several days of light rain, and more to come. And it was so hot and dry just before. I did a control burn up a steep hillside last week, and I know that won't endear me with T.Visa members from C.Rai. It didn't endear me to the Aka neighbors who thought their houses might be threatened (there was no danger). However, the burn was useful for clearing out a lot of dead vines and bushes which weren't doing anyone or animals any good. Now, the hillside is clearer, and animals can forage easier, and trees can grow without hundreds of kilos of vines weighing them down. Plus, because it was a control burn, it gives a safety buffer for the nearby houses, in case a real burn comes along later - as we still have two months of drought ahead, even considering this odd rainy spell. Oh, and it makes it pleasant to scramble over the rocks there, whereas before it was near impossible due to the massive amounts of dead vines and brush. Ok, you'all don't have to agree, but that's that.

I also have sinus problems, mostly from hay fever. I get it twice a year here, Oct and March. The control burn didn't exacerbate it, indeed it helped. Reason: I got caught behind a rock while a wall of flame went by on the other side. I almost got literally flamed. It got my adrenaline going, and cleared my sinuses.

A controlled burn were you almost got fried

Perhaps keeping the grass and weeds/vines under control on a regular basis would negate the need to burn all of it(which only encourages new growth), putting yourselves and others at risk from a fire that, although you said was controlled, can easily get out of hand on thick brush/vines.
