‘No turning back’: how the Ukraine war has profoundly changed the EU
candide replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As mentioned several times, they changed the calculation methods. On top of it, UK GDP growth was -0.5% in July. So + 0.3% in Q1, + 0.2% In Q2, - 0.5% In July=?. Also from your source: "Sandra Horsfield, of the investment bank Investec, said: “We see little in today’s numbers to derail our expectation of a more challenging growth picture ahead: we continue to forecast that the UK economy will enter a recession over the winter months.” Ruth Gregory, the deputy chief UK economist at Capital Economics, said: “We still think that higher interest rates will trigger a mild recession involving a 0.5% fall in GDP in the coming quarters.” -

Ex-Democrat Deputy Leader Gets 4 Years’ Jail In Sexual Harassment Case
candide replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The man has integrity? Really? He accepted to be the puppet of the yellow green network and consistently followed instructions given to him (ex. make sure Prayut would be nominated as army chief in September 2010, at all costs). He also participated in the orchestration leading to the 2014 coup. He disclosed a sense of integrity only after he sourly found out that the Junta would directly govern, without any key role for him. -

It's Putin who has been warmongering for years instead of developing the economy of his country and improving the well-being of its citizen. The great Russia! What a joke! The GDP (mainly thanks to energy and minerals) of Spain or Italy and the life expectancy of Haiti.- 228 replies

UK economy ‘will shrink for two years as eurozone and US grow’
candide replied to Social Media's topic in World News
So you are not able to substantiate your claim. Posen's prediction (he is the co-author of the report) is unambiguous: "The Washington-based Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) said a drop in GDP this year of 0.3% would be followed by a fall of 0.2% next year while the eurozone and the US were on course for growth this year and next." -
UK economy ‘will shrink for two years as eurozone and US grow’

Real GDP is deflated. So GDP growth is calculated after the effect of inflation has been neutralized. PPP is a different concept, it takes into account local prices, ex. You can buy more in Thailand than in UK with 1$. -

So what did the author take out and how does it change the meaning of Posen's prediction? -

Rand Paul: Withdraw Ukraine money if you want to avoid shutdown
candide replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Neither European countries nor Russia have any right to Ukraine. The fact that Ukraine or other countries are not attracted by Russia is only Russia's fault. And in particular the current backward incompetent leader who has been unable to develop the economy of his country, and provide wellbeing to his citizen. Russia has no soft power. No country wants to be dependent on Russia, unless it is ruled by an autocrat, such as in Belarus. -

Biden, Warning Trump Could ‘Destroy’ Democracy, Moves Past GOP Primary
candide replied to Social Media's topic in World News
There's not limit to how low it can go... Former President Donald Trump drew laughs from California Republicans on Friday after he ripped Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and mocked her husband Paul Pelosi over the brutal hammer attack against him. “We’ll stand up to crazy Nancy Pelosi who ruined San Francisco. How’s her husband doing, by the way, anybody know?” said Trump in a speech to the California GOP convention. “And she’s against building a wall at our border even though she has a wall around her house, which obviously didn’t do a very good job.” https://news.yahoo.com/trumps-appalling-paul-pelosi-dig-055520881.html -
Trump co-defendant pleads guilty in Georgia election case

There's a good account of the whole story here: https://www.lawfaremedia.org/article/what-the-heck-happened-in-coffee-county-georgia Powell is clearly involved "According to a combination of court filings, depositions in subsequent litigation, and the indictment filed Monday evening in Fulton County, Georgia, the forensics team—a group of employees of an Atlanta-based firm called SullivanStrickler—has driven into the rural south Georgia town of Douglas at the behest of Sidney Powell, a lawyer working with then-President Donald Trump’s legal team." Then the question is: will Powell accept to be a fuse or will she incriminate someone further up? -
UK economy ‘will shrink for two years as eurozone and US grow’
candide replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As outlined several times already, they changed the calculation method by generalizing the use of the SUT framework, which most other countries have not done yet. So UK numbers cannot be really compared with other countries any more. https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/grossdomesticproductgdp/articles/impactofbluebook2023changesongrossdomesticproduct/2023-09-01 It should also be noted that UK GDP shrank by .5% in July, so at the end of July It's not 1.8% any more, It's 1.3%. -

As usual, you did not really read the sources you linked! ???? From your FT article: "There was an even sharper drop in UK business activity, according to the S&P Global/Cips purchasing managers’ index, which fell to 46.8 in September, down from 48.6 in August, the lowest for 32 months."
