Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
candide replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
Not sure at all. The war is not good for business and China makes most of its foreign trade with NATO countries and their allies. Of course, they are happy to annoy the U.S. but there is a cost to it. -
It's a pity that there are not enough safeguards imposed to banks to avoid this kind of problems. Oh, wait! "In short, the 2018 rollback freed some banks from policies put in place in the wake of the financial crisis of 2007 and 2008 to try to stop these banks and the financial system from crumbling." The facts on Trump’s 2018 loosening of regulations on banks like SVB https://edition.cnn.com/2023/03/14/politics/facts-on-trump-2018-banking-deregulation/index.html Luckily, Biden is pushing to reverse this unfortunate deregulation. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2023/03/30/fact-sheet-president-biden-urges-regulators-to-reverse-trump-administration-weakening-of-common-sense-safeguards-and-supervision-for-large-regional-banks/

candide replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
Just a reminder ???? Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital

I am surely not supporting Russia, but according to the article, even imprecise hits making random craters would be a significant impediment. -
Disney sues Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, claiming 'government retaliation'
candide replied to Scott's topic in World News
The right-wing, is usually keen to evoke the first amendment in favour of spreading lies, threats, calls to violence, defamation, treason, etc.... They sing a different tune when the laws they enact are just criticised and opposed. Sue the little piece of proto-fascist! -

Singapore executes man for coordinating cannabis delivery
candide replied to webfact's topic in World News
It's ridiculous to execute someone because of something as harmless as weed. I may (so to say) understand if it were for trafficking crack or heroin, which are destroying the lives of drug addicts, but weed? -

Please stop deflecting. I claimed that energy production and exports have increased under Biden. You opposed this claim. I have shown statistics confirming that energy production and exports have increased under Biden.
-
I wasn't addressing the issue of long-term trends. The numbers confirm my claim that production and exports of energy HAVE increased under Biden.

It's never easy to recover after a major crisis. GDP growth was quite good compared to other G7 countries, and unemployment is at historic low. Reply about energy in my other post.

Nothing's better than numbers! Reference first graph https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/aeo/narrative/index.php#InternationalDemandfor Reference other graphs (exports) https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/us-poised-become-net-exporter-crude-oil-2023-2022-12-19/

Plenty of things are his fault (at least partly): GDP growth, unemployment decline, increased energy production and exports, industrial revival, infrastructures, better health coverage, medicine price decrease and capping.... There's a long list.

It appears He's not the only one involved in a conflict of interest. "Now, a new story shows that Thomas isn’t the only one who’s been less than forthcoming on his disclosure forms. Politico reports that Justice Neil Gorsuch, nominated by Donald Trump in 2017, sold a massive property he co-owned to the CEO of a law firm that often argues cases before the court." https://news.yahoo.com/supreme-court-ethics-scandal-just-151500875.html

Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
candide replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
Unfortunately, it seems it may not be appropriate to use F16 in Ukraine How Russia could spot Ukrainian F-16s before they even got off the ground, according to an air-warfare expert https://www.businessinsider.com/russia-may-spot-ukrainian-bases-preparing-for-f16s-expert-says-2023-4?r=US&IR=T -
Really? "Still, Biden remains more popular than Trump: 38% of adults have a positive view of the current president, versus 48% with a negative view (-10). That’s compared with Trump’s 34% positive, 53% negative rating (-19)." https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/nbc-news-poll-nearly-70-gop-voters-stand-trump-indictment-investigatio-rcna80917

Tucker Carlson out at Fox News, 1 week after Dominion settlement
candide replied to Scott's topic in World News
Fired for secretly denigrating Trump! They want to control not only what reporters publicly say, but also what they think! That's scary! "That's the last four years. We're all pretending we've got a lot to show for it, because admitting what a disaster it's been is too tough to digest. But come on. There isn't really an upside to Trump." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-64886188
