EV's have an 8 year battery warranty.... So, drive one for 5 or 6 years then sell it under warranty. I don't see that the prices drop any more than ICE's do... that would be my concern if buying one, but I've seen no evidence of the prices dropping (and this thread is about the show rooms lowering prices on new models forcing the value of already purchased models to drop - which is a different argument). Will manufacturers be able to change out the battery far more cheaply 10 years from now ???? Perhaps.... its a guess.... But, I think we are heading for an environmental disaster with all the battery tech and recycling that will be needed - but again, thats a different argument from EV's vs ICE's from the single perspective of future value.

This isn't about EV's... Its about a Chinese company making promises and breaking them. Of course, EV's have become cheaper.... But any car loses value over 12 months. Buy a BMW for 3 million baht and watch it lose 500,000 baht as soon as you drive it out of the showroom.... But, all Tesla has had to reduce its prices to compete. The free-charing thing... yup... a lie... or rather, a 'semi-truth'... I don't trust the companies that make 'too good to be true' promises. When KIA install their 'wall charger' in your house, they 'say' it has a 50 Million Baht Insurance cover for any damage caused by a fault in that charger (i.e. a short or a fire etc)... But I'd bet there is a load of 'wiggle' room in the event of a fire - I'd like to see 'that' policy in detail (I think its a 3 year policy, while the cars have an 7 or 8 year warranty). But, at least they have show-rooms... Tesla don't... and the Chinese Showrooms seem deeply intent on sales... I not sure about recalls, or response when something goes wrong - I don't trust them to hold up their side of the 'agreements' (warranty) - BUT... that is most definitely my bias. That said: Suing a company because they are offering the same product for less money in a promotion - well, thats just business isn't it ???

Where in the OP is stated that the concrete truck bursted in flames? he's highlighting how flawed your comparison was... it was stated in the article that people quickly exited tipped over bus, using 'safety hammers' to smash the windows... But thats not related to a nutcase tipping over a cement truck and killing someone, either. What you have tried to do, is used the type of response favoured by AseanNow Thai apologists looking to deflect blame with the comment.. "well, it happens in other countries too"... and then gone ahead and shot yourself in the foot using rather pathetic example... as if to exonerate the driver of a cement truck who was driving with what could be criminal negligence and killed someone.
-
Doesn't happen in civilized countries of course You have compared what appears to be a 'genuine accident' (bus hit a pole, stalled and rolled backwards losing control, tipping over, hospitalising 4, no deaths).... with... speeding crazed cement truck driver fails to yield way, tips over truck onto a car killing the occupant... Quite a difference.... If I could use am idiots comparison... ... one event is like dripping over on an unstable pavement, the other is like pushing someone onto the tracks when a train approaches.
-
He should 100% be behind bars... this should not be a simple 'death by reckless driving' charge, but the driver should be facing charges of far more serious nature, this was no accident.... ... There are no accidents when someone drives like this truck driver was - the driver should be facing the most extreme charge possible for this behavior (and outcome). In Thailand, the most extreme charge that can be applied to a dangerous driver who causes death is negligent homicide, specifically under the Thai Criminal Code. The relevant sections include: Section 290: This section outlines the offence of causing death by negligence: - penalty of up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to 200,000 baht.

Is it me, or does the Cement Truck enter the U-Turn so fast that it actually slides and almost tips over before impact with the car ??? It appears as though the truck was going to end up on its side whether it struck the car or not. Terribly unfortunate for the lady - I just wonder if she could have 'seen the truck coming at speed and could have taken the chance to yield and stop before tragedy ensued'....
-
Me first, me first, me first.... No !!!! ... Me first, me first, me first.... Again we see two massive failings in basic safety of drivers. - Cement mixer driver, going to fast with no intention to yield. - Smaller vehicle who's driver is going quickly with no intention to yield (though, I'm not sure we was given much time to yield given the speed of the truck through the U-turn). Then we also have the horrific road design with these lethal U-Turns into the 'over taking lanes' (also commonly referred to as 'faster lanes')... So we have the terrible road design which is a recipe for disaster, then we have foolish drivers with no concept of consequence who both play their part perfectly in guaranteeing disaster.

Real classy - do you proudly display photos on your wall paying tribute to convicted predators, or do you have another special way of honouring degenerates such as... Rolf Harris, Jimmy Savile, Jeffrey Epstein, Gary Glitter, Ian Watkins, Roman Polanski, Max Clifford, Adam Johnson, Mark Salling, Jerry Sandusky, Kevin Spacey, Peter Newell, John Wetteland....????

The drunk in the Truck - as per the report. But, I'm not sure what you mean where you have tried to highlight that the motorcycle was dragged or pushed forwards on the left lane... I'm not sure the photo clearly shows that there are any road gouges / scrapings etc which indicate direction or area of impact. The truck has clearly been moved after impact to the side of the road, whereas the bike seems to have remained unmoved. From the photo itself, and the actual report - it seems the girls were riding the left most or middle lane... and they were hit head on by the drunk pickup driver...

Supercar convoy causes major delays on M6 motorway (video)

Probably meant 1000 steps originally. Miile = 1000. 2000 steps... as the 'pace' was measured at the time from 'left foot returning to the left foot' (i.e. two of our normal steps) - Mille Passus (1000 paces). -
I agree. I used to have the 'idea' than IF a girl came back to my room with me, then it meant she was 'open for anything to happen' and thus was fair game for a bit of nookie... BUT... that it no way meant I was right, all decisions made and actions taken remained mutual... and I did in fact bring GF's back to my room after dinner or partying etc... and if they put the kibosh on proceedings at a 'certain base' and thats perfectly within their right - I'd be very wrong to push things further. What we’re discussing here, though, is something far more disturbing. This situation involves a vulnerable young woman, and a policeman abusing his power and authority for his own selfish and morally reprehensible reasons. There's no comparison between the two.

If you are staying at a hotel and plan to return to the same hotel, can't you just 'leave a bag' with 'left luggage' at the hotel ? I've done this in numerous countries... leave a bag of kit I don't need there for a weeks / month etc and pick it up later (though never valuables and not in Thailand).

Thats quite amusing... the lack of basic maths understanding that is.... If the measurement were 'blips' and your mate was 10 blips away and travelling at 60 blips per hour, it would take you 10 mins to travel that 10 blips... If the measurement system is kilometres and your mate is 10kms away and you are travelling at 60kmh, it takes him 10 mins. If the measurement system is miles and your mate is 10miles away and you are travelling at 60mph, it takes him 10 mins. Its a simple Time = Speed / Distance calculation. -
The response is a quite surprising... Would we usually not see the honest jet-ski operators claiming compensation from the Israeli for damaging the Jet-ski ???..... (yes, I know it was the Israeli who was struck by the jet ski ridden by an operator - and everyone working on the beach will of course already know who was riding the jet-ski, but are keeping quiet for fear of repercussions - jet-ski mafia as they are known).

That would depend on whether she slept with him while she knowingly had an STD at the time, or if the transmission was 'accidental' - i.e. she did not know at the time that she had contracted an STD before at the time she'd slept with her boyfriend. If she knew, then she is clearly guilty of an offence, though I'm not sure what that would be in Thailand, it could be a public health order offence if knowingly passing on and STD - in other countries I know this is a real offence but usually dealt with on a case by case and severity basis. His behaviour is something separate, its pure and simple revenge and illegal, and thus deserves any charge thrown at him.

How to deal with a conflict with monkeys?
richard_smith237 replied to organicman's topic in General Topics
You are born with the power to run, give it a try !!!... ok, serious... The monkey probably recognised the monk and its quickly likely the monk has used a stick a or a slingshot etc, thrown stones at the monkey etc enough times, the the monkey knows whats coming. Some may argue this would be 'un-buddhist' of a monk to act in this fashion - but they are still just humans and can respond to a problem anyway they want. You want to know how 'you' should respond - if the issue becomes significant enough - carry some sort of 'stun baton'... https://www.lazada.co.th/products/led-i5183607010-s22003191204.html? -
I've ridden the ADV 160 for a two weeks as a rental (Sand Boxing in Phuket) - I didn't find the ride particularly harsh, its a very decent scooter. Thus: As others have said, check the tyre pressure. Beyond that, I suspect the the issue is simply your expectations - there's no need to change the shocks etc on any normal scooters... I see guys putting Ohlins on their Vespas etc - its just fashion and won't make any notable difference. Did you ride other bikes ? Aerox etc - did they feel the same ?

Anyone have or tried the mini computers ?
richard_smith237 replied to CharlieH's topic in IT and Computers
Are these any good for gaming ? My son is after a gaming computer… -
Agreed, I suspect the Ops conclusion is based on the coincidence of engaging with a more chilled / less officious Immigration offer than anything else. As pointed out by others - the possession of a Pink ID (for Non-Thais) implies a more permanent connection to Thailand than a simple visa exempt entry offers.
