None of us know all the facts? Yet, by that logic, no one should say a word about the incident, and we should just scroll through pages of empty "RIP" comments. That’s completely absurd. From where I’m standing, every one of your posts seems like a cheap shot aimed at tearing me down, which only makes you look like a hypocrite. The difference? I'm not as fragile as you are when faced with opinions I don't agree with. What’s truly laughable is that you actually agree with me ( as below ) , but still can’t resist picking a fight. Because you've taken a disliking to me in other threads, you are arguing the person, not the debating the discussion...

Fair enough.... I was perhaps over defensive as there is a strong contingency of members on this forum who jump on the 'anti-cannabis bandwagon' each time a thread or report exists with a negative outcome related to cannabis / Marijuana use.... I think those posters argue from a place of extreme bias without fact and just attempt to inflame those supportive of such moderate measures. I am quite happy that Thailand allows marijuana - I believe it does far more good than bad when used sensibly..... And the folk who fail to use such 'substances sensibly' are also likely to be those who fail to use other 'substances sensibly'... i.e. booze and other 'stuff'. I also find it's good for helping with sleep - but don't want to be taking it every night..... but a few times a weeks is good.

The loss of life is tragic... but that has happened... I always approach these discussions from the position of wanting to learn what happened and how it happened so I can better learn to avoid such issues. i.e. recently purchasing a car, the darkness of film the dealership wanted to put on the vehicle was extreme, the staff thought I was mad wanting to cut back the darkness by a significant amount. The idea that I wanted to see clearly while driving at night was completely lost of them - they were primarily concerned with it 'getting too hot' in the day time in the car. I think these attitudes and end result of dark tints cause a lot of accidents at night in Thailand. And IF the driver was wearing dark glasses and had dark tint - then I think this is why he may have crashed into a stationary object. Of course, I can't prove he had dark glasses on - but should that mean it should not be a part of the discussion, especially in light of the fact that in every photo and video he is seen with dark glasses ????

Give it a rest teachers-pet / wanna-be mod... Going to tell them I'm calling you names ? Pathetic. Becasue its a discussion forum, designed for discussion. IF you dont want to read discussions, go and read the news !!!!.... This is a place where people can exchange ideas, it seems that is lost on you. So... why am I fixated on the wearing of dark glasses.... thats a valid question, but I have epxlained that enough times already - I'll do so again, because you stubbornly ignoring the point.... ... As this singer can be observed in every photo and video at the scene wearing dark-glasses, I think its a fair assumption that he was driving in them, thus, his poor visibility may well have been the root cause of the incident. We are all non-conformists.... we all draw our own opinions and discuss them. You may not think it matters that he was wearing dark glasses at the scene - I think that information is worthy of discussion.... It has nothing to do with conformity, everything to do with making an observation and discussing it on a forum designed for discussion. I am perfectly happy to take in the opinions of others - but you haven't offered an opinion, you've just argued against, mine, as has LL.... pick apart other peoples opinions by all means, but come up with your own ideas as part the discussion too.

Only the deluded potheads. You don't believe any of the medical information out there that cannabis has medicinal advantages ??? You don't believe the growing body of medical research supporting the medicinal benefits of cannabis? Just some personal experience. After suffering a severe sports injury, I was prescribed powerful painkillers (with codeine in it - good stuff). However, due to concerns about potential dependency, I opted for an alternative approach. By incorporating cannabis edibles into my pain management routine, alongside kratom, which also exhibited notable analgesic effects, I was able to reduce my reliance on pharmaceutical opioids. This strategy worked well for me, though individual results may vary. I consulted with my surgeons; highly respected and knowledgeable professionals, about my decision to moderate my use of prescription painkillers. They not only understood but supported my approach, recognising the importance of managing both pain and the risks associated with dependency. Thus, your characterisation of those who use cannabis as "deluded potheads" is not only inaccurate but also misleading. The conversation surrounding cannabis has evolved significantly, supported by increasing scientific evidence and the endorsement of well-educated healthcare professionals. It's important to consider facts over outdated stereotypes you have used. That said: 'getting wellied out of your head' as this woman has, clearly evidences the risks of over doing it. Alcohol is also an excellent anaesthetic... and I'd also enjoy night enjoying some Whisky to ease the pain.... as with this lady - people will also over do it. Just because someone smokes or consumes Marijuana / cannabis, that does not make them a 'pot head'.... in much the same manner not everyone who consumes alcohol is an alcoholic.

I read it as Lou just trying to keep to the facts and not make stuff up so you can carry on more as you do. Time to pull your head in mate. He (LL) wants to stick to the facts, but he relies upon what has been written in the article as fact, he does not allow for flexibility, interpretation, experience, how poorly the article is written, or how often important facts are missed out from these reports etc... If its not mentioned in the article, then LL will argue to the end of the earth there's no proof. I operate under different guidelines, I'm aware that the articles are often flawed, miss out on facts and may miss pertinent points - we have the benefit of discussion without the burden of proof, we are not lawyers, this is just a discussion forum. When I see a report such as this and see the guy who had the accident wearing dark-tinted glasses in every photo and video, even though its in the middle of the night, I think the assumption is a fair one that he was also driving with those glasses. I agree there is no absolute proof of this - but, I think there is strong argument to consider the likelihood of Tik-Shiro wearing those dark tinted glasses while driving.... I think this combined with window tint led to poorer visibility and perhaps one of the root causes of him not seeing the parked up motorcycle on the side of the road Also note that there is a 1m 'shoulder' on the side of the road - so it would appear that either he (Tik Shiro) was not driving within in his lane, or the motorcyclist has stopped in the lane itself. So.. head wound out or in... or wherever you think it should be.. What do you think ??????? Given the photographs and videos: a) Do you think Tik Shiro wearing dark-tinted glasses while driving ? b) Do you think Tik Shiro put on the dark-tinted glasses only after the incident ?
-
You keep mentioning the forum rules to me (I think at least 3 comment so far)... such a 'wannabe-mod' !!!... The guy had dark glasses on... there is no evidence anywhere of him without dark glasses. What assumption would you make ?... that he was driving with or without those dark glasses ? The whole point of a forum like this is for discussions and opinions... LL's opinion is that he might not have been wearing those dark glasses whilst driving because there is no proof... using the same logic there is no evidence that he was not driving naked, because there is no proof. We can only go by what we see in the photo's and videos and there is not one photo of video of him (Tik Shiro) without dark glasses on.... But, as you, MalcomB and LL want to argue, there is no photo or video of him point out there is no evidence of him (Tik Shiro) driving with dark glasses on either... It gets a bit pedantic when going down such rabbit holes.

What happen to the insurance when selling the car
richard_smith237 replied to CanNot's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
As they say... "up to you".... if you want to sell your car and you start getting pernickety and petty about the costs of insurance you may see potential buyers walk away.... Are you going to charge more because the car has a fresh set of tyres ? Also has a dash-cam installed, has a full tank of fuel, has recently been taxed etc ?... When selling a car, if you are hitting within 50,000 baht of your target price (if you've priced well) then its a good sale. In my time here I've sold on 6 cars - they all had remaining insurance, not once was insurance considered, other than letting the other party know the existing insurance expires in xx months etc. -
What happen to the insurance when selling the car
richard_smith237 replied to CanNot's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Answer: There are two types of insurance. 1) Por Ror Bor - (Compulsory insurance) - this follows the car (and usually the tax). 2) Private Insurance (i.e. 1st Class Insurance) - this can take varying forms - A: No named drivers, the insurance follows the cam - B: Named drivers, in which case insurance would have to be altered It also depends if you want to 'get a refund' on the existing remains insurance. most people will not and will transfer the car with existing insurance and let the insurance company know of the transfer. -
Is this a scam at Phuket arrivals?
richard_smith237 replied to kwilco's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Of course - thats the simple solution to keep the 'immigration counters full. There was an article a year ago on hear following yet more reports of complaints about long immigration queues which have been going on for decades... ... With Immigration stating that it takes too long to hire and train the staff to man the immigration counters.. the same excuses have been used for a long time now - If they wanted to resolve the long immigration queues - they would have been resolved with more staff years ago... its not a sudden issue or sudden or a new demand. I suspect Immigration have been playing a game for a long time... Expecting some 'increased funding from AOT' and then they'll supply more officers to man the counters, in the meantime their attitude is 'people can wait, not our problem' !!! But, a few industrious officers may see the 'opportunity' to make some extra on the side. -
Is so very easy to copy and paste the Thai text into Google Translate. IF you are bothered about selling your 'items' then it takes some effort - if you can't be bothered to do a little google translate, then you can't be bothered to sell the item... may as well give it away. For the record - over the past 24 hours I've had 13 responses in Thai. - 10 of them complete time wasters asking if the item is available (a simple enough reply as the 'Yes - its still available, are you interested' response is a one button click. - Another asking the size (which is idiotic as its a car with full photo's and description). - Another negotiating a price, me agreeing, then he disappears. - Another arranging a viewing, then canceling 1 hour before 'viewing time'. So... Selling on FB is a complete pain in the backside - there are so many time wasters out there... but that would be the same on any other platform. It seems when people are in the position of 'purchaser' their mentality changes as if they have all the power and don't care if they give you the run around. The reality is, if you want something sold, they do have the power and we just have to play along and roll with the BS that comes with trying to sell something. Previously I've sold cars on FB Market Place other platforms and had other foreigners getting verbally aggressive with me because I won't negotiate to their price. - In the end I had to tell them I'm not interested in selling to them and blocking them. There are plenty of entitled idiots about. All of it just comes with the territory of attempting to sell something, no matter the platform, but I figure the more exposure I can get means I'll have to put up with silly responses for a shorter period of time. If putting stuff on Baht and Sold - and it reaches fewer viewers (or any at all) then of course there are going to be far fewer time wasting responses.

Shocked in which manner ?... If he's from the US he'd be pleasantly surprised that at how cheap treatment is. If he's from the UK he'd perhaps be surprised that its not free (although that would be extremely naive) Why ? I just had a 300,000 baht hospital bill... I'm not sure where the shock comes into it, unless someone is uninsured and gets a huge bill.... So.. is that what you were implying ?

Big bike forced off road by car on Bangkok highway - video
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Valid point - there may not have been contact - we didn't see contact in the video as the bike was masked by the position of the car in front of the cam car. But, we did see a sudden move by the car, maybe just reckless and thoughtless. The bike may have swerved and over-reacted loosing balance and ending up in the wall and flipping over. Impossible to tell for sure. -

I'm not sure about that - It depends on which part of Vibhavadi road he is on - some of it bike are permitted (i.e. much of the area's near and North of DM Airport where there is no frontage road). Possibly... or they Police would just settle on 50/50 - who knows... I don't think the bike was riding dangerously (he was lane splitting which is quite normal here and not specifically illegal) - he may also have been on that part of the road where motorcycles are permitted (that is yet to be established and we'd need to know the exact area to be sure of this). The driver of the car carried out his manoeuvre without care and attention - that in itself is reckless driving. Then he fled the scene. -

richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Under quiet traffic conditions, fair enough. Otherwise an impossibility in Thailand for anyone who drives on busy roads. When driving: Check your mirrors and there is a line of cars and a line of motorcycles lane splitting as far back as you can see. Indicate and they just keep coming... no one will give way... so you 'gently start the lane change' slowly by surely, one of the motorcyclists has to make the decision to give way and will do so. It's not ideal - but taking a realistic approach here: being somewhat assertive in many case is the only way to make progress on the roads. And as OMF pointed out: on the bike, its just like that too. -
Is this a scam at Phuket arrivals?
richard_smith237 replied to kwilco's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Not necessarily corruption , Immigration could use the money to employ more immigration officers . People pay 300 Baht for quick service Thais get employed . Non paying people get quicker service . Everyone's a winner , You think the 'extra money is used to employ extra immigration officers and not to fund the hole in their pocket ??? Unless its an official Policy where the funds can be traced to an official account etc - with posters etc offering the 'fast track for 300 baht' for all arrivals.... ... and of course, not eating into the 'Fast Track' lanes of business class passengers. IMO - this 300 baht fast track offer is lining the pockets of a handful of officers - thats just the way these guys work, anything to make extra money. -
Baht and Sold - you're limiting yourself to about 0.1% of the population or less than. FB Market Place gives maximum exposure.... but as you commented to comes at the cost of some hassle... but. if you want sell something, you have to get as much exposure as possible and not just limit yourself to expat markets.

I currently have an item for sale on FaceBook Market Place at the moment... Just like you, I am overwhelmed by tyre kickers who asked... "Is this item still available" They're just time wasters, but my wife highlighted another point, these are people are are 'semi-interested' in the item and 'press on the "is the item still available" button so they have it marked in their own page so they can come back to it later... But... if selling a car or a watch - getting asked "is the item still available?" becomes rather annoying... But - its the cost of doing business / selling something I suppose - we could take a more hassle free approach and sell to specific vendors (i.e. Sell an apple watch at MBK or a Car at a car tent etc) - but we will obviously not achieve our price goals. And yes... I also agree, its as if some have too much time on their hands... and are bored. 5 hours ago - someone just negotiated a price, a reasonable negotiation, so I agreed - they never came back to me !!!... almost as if they were just messing about seeing how low they could get the item for, then ghosting me once they'd reached a goal or something... Very odd behavior. One more thing - when buying or selling on FB market place - as mentioned, there are loads os sellers - thus, only sell in person.

All the hotel apps fleecing
richard_smith237 replied to georgegeorgia's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
I stayed at '5 Star' Hotel in Istanbul once - what a shyite hole... Airline bumped me... a lot of messing around, ultimately bussed to a hotel. Lots of out right lying from the Turkish Airlines staff - bare face lies - I accused him to his face of lying... When I asked what standard of hotel we are going to be put into - his response was very clear... "Five Star Hotel"..... If only I'd have known. Tired and exhausted through all the BS'ing and messing about... the bus pulled up at 5am at a hotel called '5 Star Hotel'.... it was a 2 start at best... -

That depends how you've 'set up your page'... In agoda - you can also select price per night after taxes.. -
I think my comment above covers that... I'm not willing to get dragged down the LL rabbit hole of pedantic stupidity... The summary I will make is that you are painfully pedantic, stubbornly grasping at absurd arguments to oppose what is clearly common sense - in all photo's we was wearing those dark glasses.... a fair assumption can be made that he was wearing them while driving.
-
Why? Something that easily recognised celebrities have a tendency to do, amongst other reasons it can hide ageing features. Agreed.... So you think he crashed into a stationary motorcycle and people, and his first reaction was to reach for his sun-glasses to hide his aging features because he's famous ?? Or... you pointed out the potential for aging features, could these have been prescription glasses with darker lenses and he was driving with them ? As there is no photo, information or evidence of him not wearing those dark glasses, I'm inclined to suspect he was wearing them while driving, which could explain why he didn't see the parked motorcycle. Of course, you can continue being pedantic... You could also argue that he was driving without a shirt, because it was not reported that he was wearing a shirt whist driving... ( I think that makes that point )... No need to go around in pedantic circles arguing about what was and wasn't reported when we are already familiar with the lack of information, poor standards and inaccuracies in many of these reports.

100% agree.... Props to Dr. Mark... Saving the life of another in such a manner has avoided a profound loss for those surrounding the unwell.. My father had a heart attack in is 60's - I was over here at the time and flew straight home - he was very fortunate that a Dr. was nearby (in our quiet rural area) and he was attended to within minutes which almost certainly saved his life... Our son, now has the pleasure of spending his time with his grandfather when we visit the UK and the value of that cannot be understated. Its great to see such a positive story and the spreading of the information of how important basic first aid such as CPR is.
