  1. I wouldn’t worry about it, it’s still your Driving License & registered under: - your own Individual Driving License number - your passport number - Full Name - Photo The address part is hardly relevant.
  2. Fortunately we’re not in the US where people are so brainwashed they think it’s acceptable to Murder someone for spitting at & throwing stuff at your car….
  3. There’s another thread which has a video of the incident - the bike rider riding like an idiot & braking abruptly and causing the accident….
  4. sure, why not (there’s already a Facebook page dedicated that - bad driving Thailand).. Does you video show any Thai spitting at and hitting someone else car, throwing thing at them & threatening a lone female ?
  5. No Bob, the Aussie swerved in front of her and slammed on the brakes forcing the accident. What happened before that to trigger the Aussies annoyance is unknown, but perhaps the driver (Thai female) cut him up which angered him. Nevertheless, the Aussie escalated the issue & turned to violence & abuse. No good excuse there - he’s a thug.
  6. Daaaamn…. Made the mistake again of clicking before checking who the author is.
  7. Agree on both points. These are daily event hardly reported on usually, but, the media now also has its latest ‘buzz subject’ to tickle the trigger fingers of news, forum & media readers while they ‘browse over a subject which may not otherwise interest them’….…. ….. the clamp down on foreigners ‘rhetoric’ is a money spinner - add space sold !!!!
  8. I thought about getting Ohlins for my Vespa GTS... then I realised, its just a bloody scooter... Ohlins Suspension is going to make hardly any notable difference. Mods I have made: All chrome blackened out... FWD-RR facing cam... darkened out light covers (with LED lighting)... and thats it.
  9. Exactly, they have ruined soi 38 in Thonglo, used to be a very popular area for good streetfood. I agree... that the Street-Food vibe in Soi 38 was ruined.... BUT, its didn't have to be ruined... There could have been a specific area set aside for 'street food'... The issue of course is that street vendors choke up the pavements making them overcrowded and a hassle to walk through. There is plenty of scope for thailand to use 'spare land' for area's for street food.... But, as always someone will want payment. As it was, the hawkers would pay a little to the local BiB to allow them to operate on the street - this same concept could be carried to operate in a hawker centre etc...
  10. Q class as in business class OK... Qatar Airways Q-Suites then ?... You mentioned that you'd lost your paid for seat reservations - but in business class (with Qatar Airways) and every other business class flight I've taken with other airlines there is no additional cost for booking the seat. And then you mention that the Business Class food with Qatar Airways is worse than their economy food ?.... quite an inaccurate comment.
  11. Q-Class ??? Do you mean Q-Suites ? (in Buisness Class ???)... or do you mean Q-Ticketing Class (with is the lowest fare of Economy) ?
  12. On every thread about motorcycling there is at least one wannabe genius who believes he's reached an intellectual epiphany and feels the urge to drop his heightened knowledge on to the massage with such golden droplets of grade A1 divination that 'motorcycling is dangerous' or is a 'death wish'... Now.. Death wish for who exactly ???.. because, if you take your grade A1 divination and apply it intelligently without the wide-sweeping broad strokes of generalised statements you'll see that the risk profile varies deepened on who is riding and when. Here goes: - Most motorcycle deaths are those not wearing helmets. - Many motorcycle accidents involve the rider and booze - Many motorcycle accidents are at night - Many motorcycle accidents involve speeding - Many motorcycle accidents involve carless riding - Many motorcycle accidents involve and obvious lack of defensive riding Thus: although those who simply want impart a sound-bite without any genuine thought or consideration will likely disagree, the reality is that the aggregate stats and generalised risk profile is far less relevant for those of us who ride defensively, never while drunk, in the wet, or at night, who never speed, are always alert and always wear helmets etc... ... That doesn't mean motorcycling is risk free, far from it - but it does mean the exaggerated 'death wish' comments are far from sensible, intelligent and well thought out input - they are just poorly considered thoughtless knee-jerk musings of someone without any real experience of riding here.
  13. Completely agree... But with the quietening of vehicles, EV's etc.. its only a matter of time before the roads are filled with EV motorcycles - then there is one sense we are going to have to rely on above all else, without hearing (these silent machines) we'll have to get used to that and do a lot more looking around.
  14. The solution for that is simple and only a matter of time... its been an ever present solution since we drank from a communal oasis... Look, listen etc.... we've become complacent, we'll have to do more looking, thats all...
  15. As a responsible AI, I'd have hoped you'd had a far better grasp of time !!!.... just sayin'....
  16. erm.. nearly... but at least its not pick on stupid people quite yet... But we may be able to slag-off Austrians, because an Australian motorcyclist became violent... Or perhaps we can mix up..... Iceland-Ireland, Slovenia-Slovakia, Libya-Lebanon, Lithuania-Latvia, Guyana-Guinea etc etc...
  17. Plenty of petty theft around, but this is particularly dumb. The only saving grace here is that this isn't another story about the Swiss attacker.... i.e. found out that he broke the speed limit 4 years ago and has an outstanding ticket... etc etc...
  18. Not 'end off'.... there are plenty of other factors at play which could imply the car is not 100% at fault simply because it was behind. The car behind isn't always 'automatically at fault' regardless of your attempt to add authoritative gravitas with 'end of'... (*also try 'I rest my case'... or my favourite... 'full stop'... to add that additional authoritative gravitas when presenting a broken argument !!!) While in this case I do see the car as being 100% at fault, its only because the car also changed lanes behind the bike. Had the car been in the left most lane and the bike suddenly moved into the left lane then abruptly stopped it would be the bike rider who is at fault for the incident. I can also see in this case, that given the bikes erratic riding, the police could add a charge of riding without due care and attention making him complicit in the incident - I don't think that would be an unfair outcome.
  19. Why feed wild animals? Weak minded people who think they are doing good... Just like the people who feed soi dogs.... they think they are doing something good, but are short sighted and don't see how this leads to future generations of further animal suffering...
  20. Foreigners with PR are just that... Foreigners with PR... So... IF you want to claim the technical victory that 'Foreigners can get guns' if they are Foreigners with PR, you'd be technically accurate but still fundamentally incorrect as that statement omits critical information - ONLY foreigners with PR would be considered for Gun Ownership...
  21. To be fair BenStark... how many announcements do we hear of and read that are completely untrue and contradictory ? We have the Cheif of Police in Phuket making an announcement and telling us we don't need to carry our passports and that a photocopy will suffice, shortly afterwards this statement is contradicted by the Chief of Police in Hua Hin who states all foreigners must carry a passport.... The point here is that many officials make statements here, they just love the attention and air-time, they care little for truth and statements are often contradictory to actual laws. Thus: I wouldn't give any credibility to any official making such a statement - its whats written in law that matters, not what some old guy announces. So... given the history of 'false statements made by officials' and the knowledge of those on this forum, particularly those with a credible background for having accurate knowledge (such as LL), then you'd be well advised to pay attention to the comments of posters such as LL... .. You accuse him of being a 'know it all'... in this example 'he knows more than you' at least.....
  22. OK... So if one Indian Guy gets fined 200,000 baht for grabbing a woman's bottom on Walking Street Pattaya... What sort of fine is this guy going to get for numerous sexual assaults on under-age victims ? If were looking at equal judgement surely the financial penalty be the same and also imprisonment ? We never get to see follow up stories - but I'd like to see how this fares compared to a foreigner being penalised the full finanical penalty after a one off incident.
  23. Wow - you must be fun at parties, & careful up there on that soap box, its gets slippery and you'll likely slip under the burden of hypocrisy... .... You're also getting your 'isms' mixed up.... The religion here in Thailand is Buddhism, not Mormonism...
  24. Just curious... What changes have you seen over the past couple of decades that are because of whinging foreigners ? I've seen the TM28 abolished I've seem submission of the TM30 made easier I've seen the 90 day reporting go online I've seen the TM6 abolished I've also seen Immigration firm up on some of its criteria I have also seen a lot of modernisation, but that level of development happens anyway, with or without tourism, but the tourist income may contribute towards some of that development and thus, in some area's the development may be accelerated. Personally - I could never call Thailand perfect - for all its failings its tolerable and all its positives outweigh its failings... but Thailand is never perfect, the attitudes towards safety knock it way down the scale of perfection - we shouldn't have to compromise on safety this much in any civilised society, thus Thailand cannot be 'perfect' IMO due to this failing.
  25. I don't see it this way.... One think I have noticed over my years here is that in person, Thai's are extremely non-judgemental and forgiving... they do not tar all with the same brush... they are astute enough to differentiate the piggish bogans of all nationalities from the respectful regular flock... ... So, while repeated negative news such as this may give cause for the 'gangs' such as motorcycle win-taxi's to over-react and release that tik-tok fuelled anger, the vast majority of Thai's remain indifferent. No harm in being cautious of course, but if we are having to walk around on eggshells for fear of a negative interaction with a local which could blow out of proportion, then I suggest Thailand is no longer the place for any of us (foreigners) to live and relax. That said, if we are the type of foreigner who has never had an issue here, who has respectfully settled and behaves normally then there is nothing to be concerned - just interact as we always have done nothing has really changed as those with a decent attitude are more often than not treated favourably here and that is unlikely to change in the short term.
