  1. It was one of those 'knee-jerk' laws that were put in place overnight by the Military Junta in 1972.... no one in a decision making capacity or connected to those involved in such laws questioned the ridiculousness of it - why ?... Kraeng-Jai... 'don't question those more senior' !!! - the laws have been more strictly enforced in the last 15 years or so.... Also about 10-15 years ago a law was put in place that it was illegal to sell alcohol within 500m of a School.... with so many schools around this was virtually a physical impossibility in any built up area... so this law was pretty much ignored !! The idea behind all of this is to prevent school kids from drinking.... And as with much of Thailand there is a 'blanket' legislation kneecapping the whole of society rather than dealing with the actual issues at hand - penalising those who sell alcohol to minors.
  2. As pointed out above... non-Thai's can use auto-departure gates (no need for an exit stamp).
  3. How would pp get stamped? Automatic departure gates are in use for Non-Thai's.... There is no stamp in your passport if exiting via the auto-gates... the departure is registered digitally against your immigration record thats all.
  4. From various threads on this subject... I don't think being married makes any difference because the person who decides if you can use that lane or not doesn't check your marital status etc. I think its just comes down to 'whatever' the decision maker at the time is thinking or feeling... or even if they are bothered at all if you are simply accompanying a Thai. I'm not sure there are any hard enforced rules and this is why experiences vary so much when we are trying to understand some sort of rule when there is a large degree of flexibility. I think it just comes down to whoever is managing the queues at the time & by the time you get to an Immigration officer, for the most part they simply stamp you in.
  5. It seems in this case the 'loss of control' occurred after being hit by another vehicle which did not remain at the scene...
  6. Perhaps instead of concentrating on your glass, concentrate on reading... It was a 'hit & run'.....
  7. True... I wonder if its just whether the first responders (foundation rescue guys) or the Police decide to contact a media outlet or not.... and then the news gets picked up other media outlets from there.
  8. Thats the Business model of all the 'ride hailing apps'... If you think about it, its detrimental to the customers to model it any other way... IF drivers knew the destination, there would be many customers left without a ride on 'unfavourable journeys'... ... this issue already exists with flag fall taxi's in Thailand when numerous taxi's in a row reject your ride because its into a high-traffic area of town at the wrong time... It is for the same reason that laws exist in many countries that once stopped, taxis cannot refuse the fare (in Thailand taxi drivers ignore this law of course). Ride Hailing apps follow this very model to ensure the 'job is taken'... without this the reliability of such apps falls and it ultimately fails... what makes these apps successful is the ease of getting 'rides'... Contrary to your comment, it would be ridiculous not to use this business model.
  9. Interesting, which bank ??? And at any point in the past year have you had your photo taken (face scanned) a branch of that bank and had it linked to your ID ???
  10. I just set it up, but I'm not a foreigner. You set it up NDID remotely with your Thai ID on the Krung Thai Bank App ??? (and not at the Branch) ??? (My Wife has Bangkok Bank, SCB and Kasikorn - all required her to visit a branch to up).
  11. Agree... Bolt and Grab are more for 'local rides' rather than long distances... If someone wants to go a long distance, go with a dedicated service where the ride and price is pre-agreed. The issue with Bolt and Grab is that the drivers don't see the destination before before they accept the fare, this is to prevent drivers from cherry picking their ideal journeys and ignoring unfavourable journeys, ultimately to the detriment of the service on a whole. Thus: the Bolt driver accepted the ride, then realised it was a 3-4 hour journey, then he has to get back - obviously some drivers really don't want to do this, so if they cancel immediately, they'll be downgraded by the service. IMO - this issue comes from trying to use Grab and Bolt for the type of service its not really intended to be. Op should have really contacted some of the local taxi firms and pre-arranged dedicated 'long distance' transport. Op, you probably already knew this but thought you could get a 'cheaper ride' with Bolt...
  12. I recall the story..... and it did appear that the 'guy' went on a vendetta against the hotel, posting negative reviews on numerous sites. But.. what led him to do that ??? I had a terrible experience at a hotel once (Europe) and left a scathing TripAdvisor report... (we'd had to call regional management in who still failed to deal with the issues)... The TripAdvsor report just felt that it wasn't enough, I felt like I wanted my warnings of this place to reach wider so others didn't have the same experience... But, posting on lots of different sites felt childish, so I left it at that. Regardless... the risk of being sued in Thailand for publicly writing of ones negative experiences highlights a lot of what is wrong in this country... even if in the examples used (Thai Airways and SeaView hotel Koh Chaing) the 'negative feedback' was unfair. In the case of the SeaView hotel, they really shot themselves in the foot as there is so much competition and people do look up tripadvisor when researching where to stay... With ThaiAirways, I don't see this impacting them much, as those who use TG do so for lack of viable alternatives anyway.
  13. NDID - National Digital ID is a government requirement and ensures our 'face' is tied into our 'ID'... (passport etc). Any transaction over 49,999 baht must use NDID. Some Banks are not set up for NDID to work with Foreigners ID (for ID reasons not 'face shape' reasons). e.g. SCB only has NDID set up to Thai ID cards and not Passports (or Yellow Book / Pink ID) and thus cannot be set up for a foreigner. But... A 'waver' can be signed so that NDID is not required for transactions over 49,999 baht - but this also absolves the bank of responsibility should there be any fraudulent activity. Bangkok Bank does have a System to set up NDID for foreigners (mine is tied into my Yellow House Book / Pink ID number - I'm not sure if it can also be registered to a Passport). Kasikorn Bank does not have a System to set up NDID for foreigners. I'm not sure about KrungThai Bank... NDID cannot be set up remotely through an App and requires a visit to a branch.
  14. 1. expansion of meat inside 2. Access to pour in the liquid that becomes the jelly - part of a true pork pie Thank you... Perhaps watch 'American Pie' and you'll get the joke...
  15. Whats the hole for ???
  16. Agreed... the TG App is pretty much unusable... Its doesn't even display my Tier Membership.. when I select 'My Thai' (which I assume is the correct bit), it goes to a WebPage within the App in which it requires a further log in, which doesn't accept my log in nor recognise my e-mail... In short - the App is useless.. I've just logged in online... To find out my Tier status (which I think is silver)... but I can' find that out either... I've given up... (not that bothered about it)... But dealing with anything 'modern' with this company just leads to some form of frustration - yes its a TG Bash, but they struggle to get basic stuff right.
  17. Flying to Japan (3 of us).. Award Seats... saving of approximately 50,000 baht. Flew in Europe last month (3 of us) Award Seats + Excess baggage... saving of approximately £800. Flying in a few days, again with excess baggage... saving excess baggage fees (not sure how much) and also choosing Comfort+ (premium eco) seats no extra charge. Flying to UK in the summer... Cash+Miles, saves about 25,000 baht on the ticket. Obviously I disagree with your comment that 'frequent flyer miles' are of 'limited value' as year on year I prove otherwise. Note, its 'frequent flyer'... not 'occasional flyer'... which is why such programs may have limited value for infrequently travellers. That doesn't mean I only fly those airlines - I still choose the best value etc... but frequent flying, credit cards etc... all adds up.
  18. Wife and I once flew back to Thailand with 115 kgs of stuff... (about 6 months before our son was born & we'd purchased a load of 'baby stuff - push-chairs, car seats, travel cot etc - which for decent stuff was much cheaper in the UK than here)... But, we've also brought loads of other stuff back since then which ramps up and fills the luggage allowance... As per the Ops question: I have extra allowance on TG, Qatar and Emirates... the ticket only ever states the 'ticketted allowance' above which our 'tier membership' allowance is added... This has caused me the same confusion in the past when logged in online and the shown allowance hasn't inreased according to my tier membership... So Op... If your Business Class flight allows for 40 kgs... and you are a silver member - your allowance is 50 kgs.
  19. Isn't that dangerous because of the risk of scolding from 'rapid expansion' of superheated water when moving the cup or adding something causes it to rapidly boil over ?
  20. Don't want to disagree with you and get into an argument... because I completely disagree with the guest instigating law suit based on a review comment... But... You didn't consider the place was dirty enough to warrant and additional cleaning charge, but did consider it dirty enough leave a bad review of the guest ??... Genuine questions: Did you see the place at all ???.... in person or photo's, or were you going by what your cleaner mentioned ? i.e. could your comment have been an over-reaction, or was it really a jeffin mess and they guests really did deserve a negative comment ?
  21. Englishman here... 100% agree... Please don't tar us all with the same brush as the sweaty's !!!...
  22. Perhaps thats a lesson to carry forwards. Cleaning fee charged if place is left unreasonably dirty.
  23. Indeed... Gottfrid must have got so excited he blew his electricity... I've not read of his Brit-bashing-gloating recently...
