Correction... 12,900 baht for a kettle is ridiculous to you because you are thinking with your own limited resources.... These same attitudes produce comments such as... ... Why the need for an expensive watch, I cant tell the time on my phone. ... A Merc is a Taxi where I come from, a Toyota does the same job and gets you from A-B. While I agree, 12,000 baht is a lot of money for a kettle and I wouldn't want to pay that, there are others who value the aesthetics or product design... thats an individual choice some obviously fail to understand.

You'd technically be correct... or it could be called a 'shop house' restaurant etc... But the Op gave the impression that he was after something a little more 'quaint' with a homey atmosphere...

I think thats a fair comment... I imagine being a taxi driver sucks, lots of jobs suck.... but is that an excuse to try and cheat ? I see taxi's waiting outside hotels all day trying to get that one exaggerated fare... those guys are cheats. Then I see decent taxi drives who turn on the meter immediately without any request... they get a nice tip. Agreed, they're not.. and exposure to the 'bad taxi drivers' depends primarily on the area and time - and if you are in 'those areas' fairly frequently... this behaviour just wears thin. I also agree with you that the TikToker is scummy to expose this in the manner he has... But its also a sign that people are irritated by this behavior.... A lot of taxi's I take in the day time or around my area of Bangkok are absolutely fine... then I can go to some area's in the evening and its a near 100% guarantee that the taxi driver will not use his meter and charge a 3x fare... and its not just the one, we can go through a whole line of them driving past and they are all quoting 3x fares...

Good luck trying to negotiate with a Taxi in Sukhumvit late at night then... You'll find out quickly enough what the facts are and who the 'fool is'... Just becasue you can get metered taxis in a lot of area's of Bangkok, you still can't get a metered taxi in some areas... so your statement below is wrong...

Completely agree.... The Nation Article draws its information from the NARIT facebook page and simply reports on the story rather than sensationalises' it... https://www.facebook.com/NARITpage Someone at the Thaiger thinks they are being cute with all this sensationalisation, whereas they are simply falling under a heavy load of criticism for their flawed reporting.... as mentioned earlier by eisfeld, they are not more satire than news.

Did they say that or was it just The Thaiger? I think this covers the response... It was of course the Thaiger who added that part and as with most stories here they are the source of inaccuracies, contradiction, conflicting information that lead to a lot of the bickering... ... I'm starting the think the Thaiger deliberately writes their stories in this manner to deliberately create discussion which would be a very smart move, but I can't help thinking that any additional discussion from their flawed writing is purely a byproduct of their flaws rather than clever writing. Had the artice instead wrote "well done Thai astronomers for their part in contributing to.......... " the response of most would be more favourable (obvious Thai bashers excluded of course).

Staying at mil's house

No... But if you were willing to go through the process, you could obtain a Yellow House Book which you can use to prove residence in most cases. Applications can be made at your local Amphur (they'll give you a list of whats required). -
Its the nationalistic exaggeration which is the problem, pretending it's all a Thai achievement when that appears to be very far from the truth. While I agree with sirineou's sentiment that there are elements on this forum that tend to demean anything Thai thats positive, I think you nailed the explanation and reason for some of the responses... certainly mine anyway... ... Its the exaggerated 'over egging it' from a nationalistic perspective that invites ridicule.

You clearly need to revisit your understanding of contract law ! Especially as it applies to airlines Indeed... he could start with finding out what 'Force Majeur' is.... -
Well, I'm sure it keeps you more lucid than LCD which I'm sure some posters must be taking regularly !!! I might actually give it a try.... although I've never even seen it anywhere in Bangkok, although I've never looked for it or 'had my eye in' to notice it... I've discovered 'taking a gummy' (marijuana) gummy before a long haul flight puts my factor for giving fu<£s down to zero... I'm getting to the age now where its a case of the more 's#it' I can take means the more 's#it I can take' !!!

Do the video, get the QR code etc.. have all your documents with you, and then when you go there give them a 'story' about how it needs to be done today... (i.e. travelling next week etc).. Get there early enough, they may slot you in.

Would it work for playing sports... As I age knees and ankles keep reminding me that I'm older than than think I am... But I'm wondering if this stuff would be ok to play football on... i.e. still sharp and alert ?

Thai Airways sues over passenger’s flight diversion criticism

The metar times are in GMT (UTC), so ,say 2030 GMT is 0730am Melbourne time. Thanks for the clarification... -
Thai Airways have recently adopted a 'cash + Miles' option where you can use up to a maximum of 50,000 miles per ticket. You'll need to go through the booking process, put in passengers names etc and get to the payment page at which point out can select how many miles you need to pay with to offset the cost.

Thai Airways sues over passenger’s flight diversion criticism
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I think there is a difference between "Oh no, flight diverted, arrived tired and stressed"... and "The Thai Airways Pilot lied to us"... (I'm not sure what the passengers post actually mentioned though). The weather at Melbourne Airport varies and can be 'foggy' throughout the year (apparently). I'm guessing it was not known at the time how long the ATC would keep TG 465 in a holding pattern - the decision was made based on fuel reserves - no chances taken. For this to have reached social media, the FB post was public enough. But it wasn't just an opinion posted, it was an accusation against the proffessionalism of the Pilot ergo an accusation at Thai Airways (of lying). Absolutely agree - it is this sort of behavior by an Airline that highlights how little they value their customers. Although I'm flying them next week.. what if something goes wrong, complain and get ignored ? how do I get my complaint heard? through social media attention and risk being sued ???... We just cross our fingers and hope the airline makes no mistakes.... Agree.. this is Thai airways 'saying' we are bigger than our customers... don't ever test us on this. As others have written, they are still owed money from the Covid debacle... I've received my refund from Qatar Airways cancelled flights - although it did take 5 months. -

Scheduled landing time for TG 465 was 07:20 hrs - any data for then ? -
I'm sure the Op is overwhelmed at the helpfulness of this response.. Very good food there..... I preferred it when it was on the corner of Thonglor Soi 13 thought. Another very good Thai Restaurant is Sabai Jai Gai Yang on Ekammai... its single story, with a larger area out the back but perhaps lacks the 'cosy' house feel the Op seems to be after. Another obvious mention is the Blue Elephant on Sathorn, which is in a somewhat grandiose house, Thai food is directed more towards western tastes and prices are 'higher end'.... There is also Sri Trat on Sukhumvit 33 (north end) which has some what of a traditional Thai feel to it (once inside) - food is some of the best Thai food in Bangkok.

I wonder if this discovery is as good as their announced cure for Ebola and HIV ??? Not wishing to Thai-bash, but they have 'over egged' their announcements in the past which lends to a certain degree of cynicsim when they make such another self aggrandising grandiose announcement. [Thai astronomers have unravelled the mysteries of the universe] Got to chuckle at that one really... that said, whatever work they are carrying out, good on em... 'stellar stuff' !!

I've taken my Son there a couple of times, he's also had a school trip there.... I completely agree with you, its run down... most of the interactive exhibits were not working... But, the entrance fee's were very low, so its no surprising they are low on funds to keep 'stuff' working... Its still an interesting day trip and fun for the kids... worth taking the little ones for a visit.
