  1. Valid point - if ever there was an ideal situation to use resources to medivac a child in dire need.
  2. The 'Blue Baby' syndrome became known after 'heathy babies' once at home developed issues after being fed formula made with water with high nitrate levels.... .... If I remember correctly, there was also an issue with the British Tap water in the 1970's and 1980's in some area's which caused elevated levels of this tragic issue.
  3. I've seen two accidents when cars have stopped at a zebra crossing. They were caused by vehicles going around on the inside. I've heard of someone dying this way. Giving pedestrians a false sense of safety is not the correct thing to do in some people's opinions. It seems you are suggesting a culture of 'law breaking' is safer than one which abides by road laws and the regulations... Road fatality and accident stats punch a giant hole through your fundamentally flawed comment.... No... thats your childish projection and attempt to point score because you failed to think of anything intelligent with which to continue an interesting debate.
  4. None of that I disagree with... But none of that justifies the dual pricing that exists in Thailand, some of which can be circumnavigated with the use of a Pink ID to show we are local resident... Also, none of that backs up your flawed statement that 'using the Pink ID to secure resident discounts in Thailand is stupid'... ... additionally, none of that backs up your implication that 'using the Pink ID to secure resident discounts in Thailand is forcing them to confirm to my culture'....
  5. But the discount is not for residents, it's for Thais. You are saying this is wrong, so you are trying to get them to conform with your culture. It seems you are suggesting that whenever a foreigner see's something they feel is wrong in Thailand (or any foreign country), then they are trying to get them to conform to their culture... You see Neeranam, there are many things in many countries that we can disagree with, the attitudes to road safety being one of them for example... I dislike the manner in which Thai's tend not to stop at a pedestrian crossings.... So am I trying to get them to conform to my culture with this objection ??? its difficult to argue against that, as in my culture 'doing the right thing and stopping for pedestrians at crossings' is the right thing to do, morally correct.... and its also the morally correct thing to do in Thailand. Thus, when that same attitude of 'doing the morally right thing' continues, yes, you could argue that I'm trying to get people [Thailand] to conform to my culture, but really, its more about 'using morally correct practices'... Thus: when I can show a Pink ID card to obtain the same price as my Thai friends, I don't see this in any manner as being stupid (which you mentioned), or as getting them to 'conform to my culture' (which you also mentioned).. I just see this as doing the right thing because the Thai ID card for non-Thai's (Pink ID) highlights that we live here and are residents of Thailand... If you think that is trying to get a nation to conform to my culture then your argument is not only flawed, its rather daft... after all, many behaviours and practices in Thailand overlap with behaviours and practices in Western nations... does that suggest Thailand has altered its culture to conform to the West, or has Thailand, just like many other society's in the world, evolved and developed ?.... you can take examples from legal systems, business practices, road laws etc to identify the overlap - thats not cultural conformity, thats just development.
  6. We were both guests of members. We both live in Thailand. the difference is our nationalities. I believe he showed a DL from the state of Victoria, which he hasn't lived in for 20+ years. So you were being efficient with the facts... He showed an Australian Driving License which identified him as an Australian Resident. If you could have shown a driving license from Australia it is likely you too would have received the same 'Residents' rates..... This was not based on nationality.. it was based on residency and anyone of any nationality who can show they are resident would very likely secure the same discount.
  7. Tell that to the Royal Melbourne Golf Club who charged me $500 more than my Ozzy mate who lives in Thailand. Are you being efficient with the facts ?? Are you a resident of Melbourne ????.... can you show any proof of residency there ? (that locals use for this discount). Your 'ozzy mate who lives in Thailand... Did he show proof of local residency there to get the locals / residents discount ? I suspect you are conveniently leaving out details which would otherwise pick your point apart - you've used the same argument in the past in other threads and the flaws were identified. I agree.. better to 'do as the romans do'.... in this case, pay as the Thai Residents pay... And again, you falsifying statements to bolster your point... No one is trying to educate Thai's or trying to get them to 'conform with our culture'.... We're just using a Thai issued identification card (Pink ID or Driving licence etc) to obtain the non-exaggerated price, or as others call it... residents discounts... Which IMO is morally sound. Agreed... of topic and its been done to death in other threads where I've not seen one valid argument ever that justifies dual pricing based on nationality alone, other than greed.
  8. I'm not so sure about that... The following comment is anecdotal, I know, but it could be an example of hundreds of thousands of households across the nation. Our Maid is married to driver for a Japanese company exec... has two teenage boys... both at technical colleges... The elder of the boys is fine, never an issue... The younger (14) always gets into masses of trouble. He's nicked his mums bike, which was then stollen from him and smashed up. He's been invovled in massive street fights etc, parents have been at the police station with him numerous times. He's been knifed (across the forehead and is now disfigured, nerve damage, needed plastic surgery). His parents have made him move college to a different area etc I very much doubt he is a purely innocent party in any of the above.... This isn't a broken home, his parents both work hard. I can't explain how or why its gone so wrong for this lad but it would be an easy judgement to suggest weak parenting... but his older brother is absolutely fine...
  9. You think your food poisoning came from a guy who decided not to go through with their frozen food purchase and left it on the counter because he was upset at someone queue jumping ???? - thats your whole basis for your repetitive virtue signalling ? You do have 'something' in your corner - but its exaggeration, not experience. You have also 'jumped to the conclusion' that your food poisoning was from frozen food, there is a higher probability it was from anything other than... including not properly washing hands to a virus... So.... you also have 'jumping to conclusions' in your corner to accompany exaggeration.... Now... you could make up that you also had proof it was from the frozen food, or are certain is wasn't a virus etc... and we could add 'making s#it up'..... and you'd then have the trifecta.... Exaggeration, jumping to conclusions and making s#it up !!!...
  10. Interesting you see yourself as a victim. This is only in your head :) Foreigners pay the normal price, they are victim to nothing. WRONG... we could debate dual pricing all day and that has been debated on numerous other threads and I can pick a hole in any support of dual pricing based on nationality argument that you can present. The practice of charging people more based on nationality rather than residency is wrong.. So if I can beat that with a Thai DL or Pink ID, I will of course do so... It seems you think its stupid not to be happy paying more for the same service or item... now thats stupid, IMO. Again, you are using your bias and misrepresenting the Pink ID... No holder of a Pink ID is trying to pass as a Thai... We're just 'trying' to pass as residents we are. On the 'victim' comment, you have either deliberately, or unintelligently misplaced the context of that word.. Victim in this context means 'duped' - as in foreigners duped into paying more for the same item or service because of their nationality alone.
  11. It is needed for the citizenship process, i.e to get on the blue housebook. The district staff add requirements as it's their way of getting more money when people ask 'is there any way we can fix this issue?' Thanks... So all the documentation baansgr referred to was not solely to process the Yellow House Book application, but for something else (i.e. Citizenship / Perhaps PR)... And.. as you mentioned... I imagine many would take the 'any way we can fix this issue' route rather than jump through those hoops.
  12. Indeed. I think people feel they have successfully integrated into the culture if they have one. I've read about people showing it at places where Thais get discount, which is stupid as it says "NON THAI' on the front. You think its stupid to attempt to not be a victim of dual pricing ?? Do you think its also stupid for people to show a copy of their Thai Driving Licence when attempting to avoid dual pricing and get the Thai Price ? Your comment projecting the attitudes of those who hold a Pink ID, and betrays your dislike of the Pink ID once again surfaces Neeranam... It seems you have imagined that those who have a Pink ID somehow feel elevated or are of the belief they have a higher 'status' in Thailand than those who don't and this projection 'gets up your nose'.... But its all in your head and you've created a negative bias out of thin air. I wonder if you have at some point in time met an idiot who was showing off and excessively proud of their Pink ID as if they thought that gave them elevated status and that annoyed you... and you now project that annoyance on to all holders of the Pink ID...
  13. Just curious on this... You needed an Original Birth Certificate (notarised, translated, translation verified by City Hall, MoJ, Thai Embassy)... I've never heard of a Birth Certificate as a requirement to obtain the Yellow House Book... usually, its just an MFA verified translation of a Consulate Verification of copy of your Passport. Any idea why they wanted to much more from you ? (which Amphur).
  14. Doesn't it depend on how long it is before the staff notices the goods, and takes action to return them to proper storage? How do you know another customer won't get food poisoning from thawed goods being returned to a freezer? How do you know regulations don't compel them to be thrown out? I wasn't aware I was virtue signalling, that's your opinion. We all know what they say about opinions. Grade A1 'Whatifery' !!!... If the food were placed on the counter in front of the Shop Assistant, they'd notice it pretty quickly I imagine. This whole idea of 'vandalism' of yours is a hyperbolic exaggeration and rather ridiculous and now your exaggeration leaps to customers getting food poisoning... Your reductio ad absurdum is preposterous.
  15. Valid point, but you are mixing up and combining generalisations and assumptions to draw a further generalisation which is flawed.... I'm not sure what 'most people' want... but I'd agree there are a load of 'loud rights voices' who are against ID cards (in areas such as the UK), however, many would also agree that they are useful and we should have them. I personally believe that we should be able to identify ourselves whenever asked to by authorities - While I'm against a police state, the weakening of the police force weakens their ability to protect society from itself. Just like Thailand and many other nations: A National ID card / Residency card makes a lot of sense (for me at least).
  16. The 'bit' that goes on about not being able to leave your home area is often quoted, but the latter part is often missed, particularly by those who enjoy 'ridiculing' the card (or those who just want to argue against it for some reason)... ... Either deliberately so or due to other reasons they miss out the key exception in the statement... 'except for those who have alien identification'.... Part 3 of the card states: "The person named on this card is prohibited from leaving the the card issuing area, Except for those who have alien identification or those who have received written permission". Alien Identification = Passport, which supersedes the Pink ID. Thus: While (theoretically) the Pink ID card is not a valid form of ID when used outside of the area of issue, that does not mean that travel is permitted for those also holding passports (and legal visa status).
  17. To be fair... It could also be regarded as 'point made' or even 'cutting ones nose of to spite their face'... But to regard it as vandalism is over egging it somewhat don't you think ??... The staff won't have left the items there to thaw, they'd have returned them, thus, no damage done - the Vandalism argument you present is over the top and rather ridiculous and does have rather a 'virtue signalling' whiff about it. The staff may also have learned from the encounter and then 'said mini-protest' will have paved the way for the rest of us not to encounter similar issue.
  18. I was there three weeks ago (alps), the line cutting was so outrageous both my Wife and Son noticed it and became annoyed by it. In my experience too, most French people are polite and helpful (as are the majority of the population in many nations) but that was contrasted by the noticeable extent of middle aged French women pushing through in the queues which made a number of situations less than relaxing. Maybe, you are are one of those people who make dumb assumptions in an attempt to point score ??... well, not maybe at all... but, 'actually'.... because you have 'actually' proven in your statement above that you are one of 'those dumb assumption people'...
  19. Indeed... luxury is obviously a misnomer and completely juxtaposed from the published image of the condo, yet it is hardly relevant at all to the story... Its often entertaining how so many posters completely ignore the bigger picture story and end up pathetically bickering about completely irrelevant details... Its the same when an article mentions 'luxury sedan' involved in an incident which turns out to be a Toyota...
  20. Why is this mysterious ?.... There is a 100% certainty that we all will die.. 57 is relatively young, nevertheless, not unheard of at all. I don't see anything mysterious in this at all, however, agree that cause of death should be established due to the age.
  21. Again, as you did in other threads on this subject... You are implying that it would be 'illegal' for any Foreigner holding a Pink ID to travel outside the province of issue without consent... That is incorrect, below is why.... In such circumstances our 'passports' that ID takes precedence over the Pink ID which as you mention is 'restricted to area' - that doesn't mean 'we are restricted to that area if we hold the Pink ID as we have our passport which supersedes this'.... ... on the back of the card there is a statement "The person named on the card is prohibited from leaving the issuing area except for those who have alien identification..."... (in this context the alien identification is a Passport)... ... This is also somewhat of a no-brainer but you like to repeat this in the 'Yellow Card / Pink ID' threads because for some reason you really object to the Pink ID card....
  22. How did you open your Bank Account ???... Did you open your account with your Yellow Book and Pink ID, or did you open your Bank Account with your Passport as ID ??... (when countering my statement, you are missing out vital information in yours). I'll repeat again: I opened my Bank Account using my Yellow House Book, hence the account is linked to my Thailand ID number - thus I have been able to 'deal with the bank' in person using the Pink ID for identification purposes... Simple really. What letter ??? - No letter from the Bank was required for an extension of stay, just a printed (and stamped) statement and the Bank Book itself. Again, what letter ?... the question has not been avoided, the question is moot , there has bene no requirement for a letter from the bank. In 2020 at DLT Chaeng Wattana - Extension of stay based on Non-Imm O Marriage - no such requirement for any letter from the Bank. You mean the same stupid people who saw your Thai ID still assumed you are a foreigner and you are using that as proof that a passport is required for all foreigners in all bank transactions regardless of what ID (Yellow House Book) was used to open it ?... ..... rather a daft leap wouldn't you agree ?
  23. If I'm not mistaken anyone can have a bank account here regardless of Immigration / working status... Long term tourists (who were able to open one), retuires, nomads, etc etc... you get the point. Thailand is not like 'some' other countries such as those in the Middle East whereby as soon as your residency visa ends so does everything else.
  24. I've also had this before... But usually the staff are alert enough to deal with it appropriately and ask them to wait. It has happened where the staffer diverts their attention, it is then that I speak up. Fortunately... its a lot more polite here than I find in a lot of other areas (France is a shocker !).
  25. Correct, letter of address is not required for transferring a vehicle out of your name, neither is it necessary to attend the DLT. There are two phases of the sale... 1) Handing over cash in exchange for the car (a receipt will prove this and prove ownership). 2) Transferring registration. It is the transferring of registration is perhaps going to prove difficult. Op needs to write / sign over power of attorney form (document). Op needs to sign over the car (Blue Book). Op need to fill out and sign a 'sale of vehicle' (document). New purchaser then goes to DLT to process the transfer with his documents also. This is where there may be issues as the car is apparently not taxed, so they may want the tax and por-ror-bor insurance, to get this the car will need to be 'tested' and this is were there maybe to be issues if the car really isn't road worthy.
