  1. Having a motorbike takes you to the next level in Thailand so much more useful than a car. A car is unnecessary for many, but if you want it go for it, same with yellow book and poofy pink ID card You're getting rather ridiculous... 'bike takes you to the next level'.... ... level of what exactly ?... such a comically unintelligent response. What with the weird idea of bringing sexuality (poofy) into this as some juvenile attempt at a slur... its Pathetic... I'll be ignoring your comments from here on in, you're offering nothing to the debate and dragging ppl down to the level you seem to prefer operating on.
  2. Addressed this point already - as those who take objection to the Pink ID and Yellow House book take a different meaning and cherry pick a limitation to suit their 'agenda'...
  3. Because you made a sweeping statement that is wrong when you stated "You still have to show your passport to do transactions. " - this is inaccurate... So why your penchant to make stuff up ???? Pink ID can be used for 'counter transactions' on accounts that opened with a Pink ID and Yellow House - thats a proven fact (I've done so numerous times). They all say that... that doesn't mean you can't leave the province (as some suggest). Obviously... because you'd opened your account with your passport... Go and open an account with your Yellow house Book and Pink ID and you'll be able to carry out 'counter transactions' using your Pink ID as identification... How is this concept so difficult ???
  4. There are numerous examples on this forum and others of how and where having the Yellow House Book and Pink ID has saved not only money, but time and hassle... Its it the time and hassle saving that is more important to many of us. I know that the next license renewal, or next vehicle I purchase etc there is one less annoying bit if bureaucracy I have to go through because I banked that already by putting in a little leg work a few years ago... (thats just one example - numerous others have been mentioned through out the thread). In reality the Yellow House Book and Pink ID is only 'necessary' for very few people... BUT... it has proven convenient for many... Thats the point you seem to be struggling with when presenting you arguments that its unnecessary. I mentioned similar on the very first page of this thread - people who don't have a car will argue that its unnecessary, and I agree... but having a car adds a layer of convenience for a lot of people, the same with these documents....
  5. They [the Bank] didn't give me a letter 'to' immigration - the bank gave me a printed Bank Statement with my name and address on it. You are trying to pick holes in anything you can to justify your opinion that a Pink ID (and Yellow Book) is not useful - We've done this dance before and you cherry pick inaccurate holes and obfuscate the discussion with irrelevant points. I agree with you - the Pink ID does not show that we are legally in the country or have a valid visa, but thats not the discussion - the bank doesn't check our immigration status - so I'm not sure why you think that point is even relevant in the context of this discussion. Our discussion was the use of a Pink ID to obtain a Bank statement, the only point of the Bank Statement is to proof of funds, Immigration are not even bothered about the Statement, what they really want to see is the updated Bank Book (usually updated to that day)... but that again, is an irrelevant point to the usefulness of the Pink ID. Further obfuscation, either that or you are being deliberately obtuse... IF your Bank are asking for your passport, its because you opened your account with your Passport before you obtained Thai nationality. IF you had opened your Thai Bank accounts with your Thai National ID, then you would not be asked for your Passport.
  6. Excellent, very well handled - its good to see that a perfectly logical solution was achieved. I have often found that when 'nudging' an issue up the chain a couple of levels a logical response surfaces, I have encountered very similar with immigration and the logical resolution was realised only after forcing the issue up a couple of levels beyond the junior immigration officers.
  7. Thanks for that - useful info. I'd have probably gone that route initially instead of going to the UK Consulate each time I needed an Affirmation of Address. That said, it still seems like a bit 'faff' each time (particularly the witnesses part)... at least the Yellow House Book is a one off (until we move, then I'm not sure what changing it entails). I'm glad I got the Yellow House Book, I have found it useful and worthwhile getting. I'm glad I spent the extra 10mins and 40 baht to get the Pink ID, I have found that has added an additional layer of convenience.
  8. No... they're just showing their disagreement with whatever it is you have written, or they are trolling you. In the past we had a +1 or a -1 which worked perfectly well, if someone didn't agree with post they just put a -1 which was fine. Now we have the Sad, Confused, and Laughing emoticons which people use to show they disagree... There is also the issue of posters going on a childish personal vendetta and posting one of those negative emoticons against every post a forum member makes - the issue there is anonymity, it was better when we could see who posted the responses (emoticons) so we can just ignore the repeated trolls...
  9. Strange they didn't ask for your passport for the number to put on the letter you need from the bank with this statement. They already have my Passport details in their system, also the Thailand ID # - either one has worked when asking for a printed (and stamped) statement. I don't actually recall if my Passport # was printed on my the statement.
  10. Bank Statement for extension of Stay (based on Non-Imm O) back in 2020. And for any other transaction needed... Note: As pointed out earlier - Accounts are linked to the Yellow House Book / Pink ID (these are not accounts only opened with just a passport).
  11. Banks want to see whatever ID the account is linked to. IF you opened your account with a Passport - the bank want to see your Passport, if you have since obtained a Yellow House Book and Pink ID, the Bank still want to see your Passport. IF, however, you opened your account with your Yellow House Book and Pink ID (and you will have needed to show a passport too), your account will be tied to your Thai ID number and Passport, thus you can use either the Pink ID or Passport at the Bank.
  12. In my area, you cannot obtain a Pink ID without the yellow book as that book ID is incorporated in the Pink card. Same here... my comment was in response to hkt83100 who wrote that we could obtain proof of address from our Amphur office. I'm wondering how thats possible if we've never registered (and obtained a Yellow House Book) with the Amphur.
  13. You still have to show your passport to do transactions. No you don't.... I have accounts with SCB, Bangkok Bank and Kasikorn. The Pink ID and Yellow House book were used (registered) upon opening the account (passport too). I have been able to make transactions in all three of those account (i.e. withdrawing money, obtaining statement letters) by presenting my Pink ID along with the Bank Book.
  14. Did you try to get it from your Amphoe? It is free, and it takes about ten minutes to get it. And no bribe like at the Immigration. And it saved me a roundtrip of 180 km for the last extension of driving license. No I have never tried that and was unaware that it was ever an option (before obtaining a Yellow House Book). I'm wondering how the Amphur Office could provide proof of address unless we have registered with them (i.e. obtained a Yellow House Book).
  15. If it were to [contain the dates of your current permission of stay] would you get a new card with each extension of stay ???? Seems rather impractical... OR... it could contain that information on a 'chip' which is updated whenever our permissions change. At the moment the Pink ID is an identity document for non-Thai's - its not related to our immigration status.
  16. I had a swig about about 10 years ago attempting to play golf in the winter in the UK (frozen greens)... It was surprising good, or I was so damn cold it was just so very welcome !!! I do wonder why someone would want Bells in Thailand... Surely something like JW Red is very similar ?
  17. 555, look at my post at the top of the page, I gave my input, and actually agree with your posts. Did you think my "worked up" remark was aimed towards you? (it wasn't). Perhaps I was getting worked up after all and let my food of the clutch too quickly........
  18. After rejection of yellow book at Pattaya Land Transport Office, a friend asked the office supervisor for an explanation and got the following reply. Thanks for that... ... next, I'm not criticising your comments, but the content of the response from the DLT... which I'll deal with in steps... Its still strikes me as strange that this DLT does not accept this book while most others do - its like they've made up their own rules (which is not strange for Thailand actually). Thats a very odd response, there is no such thing as a 'Chonburi area only licence' - its a Thailand Driving Licence (and covers the whole of Thailand). (I addressed this point on the first page of this thread). Kind of irrelevant when a DL lasts for 5 years and a new TM30 with a different address can be submitted the day after getting a DL issued. That said: Your point holds as I haven't submitted at TM30 since 2020...
  19. Worked up.. nah.... .. Countering flawed generalisations in a topic on a forum designed for discussion... Yep !!... Whats your input to the thread ?... anything of value ?... or did you just feel compelled to impart a dash of irrelevant kokwomblery ?
  20. We all do, whether everyone admits or not. I literally just gave you an example of when I flew domestically without my passport and used the Pink ID.... I think you are cherry picking for some reason to argue against something many have already pointed out adds a layer of conveniences - I'm not sure why you object to this so much.
  21. You don't need a Yellow House Book, thats fine... I used mine at the bank too... as do others... Thanks for speaking for 'yourself'.... The Pink ID is really nothing for you... and you are projecting that 'its an ego flair'... why ???? would you consider it an ego flair if you had one, or are you imagining thats what others think of it ???... Its just an ID card that provides some convenience to some of us... thats it... Why would you be so against what others find convenient ?
  22. Pink ID takes an additional 10mins after getting the Yellow Book - its hardly a major effort to obtain (its the Yellow Books which is a PITA). As far as Bank Accounts go... I used my Yellow House Book to open my Bank Accounts with both Bangkok Bank (2 years ago) and Kasikorn (6 months ago)... ....the alternative was to book an appointment with the UK Consulate (Embassy), wait for however many weeks for the appointment, then obtain the Affirmation of Address document for about 2000 baht.... ... Or, get the Yellow House Book out and use that... and I didn't 'need to take my business elsewhere, shop around, hedge my bets etc... to find a bank that would accept me because the Yellow Book works perfectly in this situation.
  23. Good info Thanks... Whenever travelling I usually carry my passport with my anyway (just incase its needed or I need to travel elsewhere etc), even when driving somewhere (such as Hua Hin, Khao Yai, Koh Chang etc)... ... Its just on one occasion I couldn't because my passport was at an Embassy over night for a Visa Application. Recently I travelled domestically and used my Pink ID as for no other reason than it was easier to access in my wallet than getting the passport out of the pocket in my hand-carry (not really any additional convenience at all there, but still...)...
