  1. The reasons are simple economics - White has traditionally been the cheapest paint option, a lot of these decisions have always been made by accountants... so fleet vehicles are.... ??? Most 'works' vans are also white for the same reasons - economics. For higher visibility police forces and ambulance services use Luminous Orange and Yellow... IF white was so effective, why aren't they leaving their vehicles plain white !!... Now... Do you choose a car colour for the best perceived visibility ??? or do you just chose the colour you like ?
  2. What about the other three sides? You're being deliberately thick, or simply facetious if you think all cars are perfectly square ???? Cars are designed so that both headlights and tail lights can be seen from the side - in fact with most modern cars as much of the lights can be seen from the side as from the front and rear.
  3. Exactly.... So many people getting uptight about colour of the car, when really there is no difference at all because we turn on the AC.... so within a very short period of time the temperature is the same. At 40 dec C or 45 deg C its still too hot to be comfortable in a car - so the difference is irrelevant. Both will be a comfortable temperature within a few mins. IF someone is so particularly anal about the difference the colour makes to the internal temperature of the car they also need to be placing far greater focus on window tint, glass surface area of the car, where its parked (quality of shade etc). This is a perfect example of a thread where some posters are getting particularly pedantic about insignificant differences and concentrating on the 'win' and 'point scoring' rather than any practical common sense. Technically there is a difference, common sense highlights the difference is irrelevant you'll still need AC and with AC there will be no difference. Some may want to argue the difference in 'economy' but come one, thats just ridiculous - do also budget how much water you drink in a day in hotter countries ???.... (question was rhetorical).
  4. Sorry to read of this news Brit... I hope you make a speedy recovery. Props to the full face helmet and your commenting that it is likely this which saved you - it certainly gives me thought to wear my full face helmet more often, even when nipping out. Any further info on the 'hit-n-runner' ??? (Scum of the Earth). One 'shutting the barn door' comment - Dash-cams for Bikes... I have the Innov K2 dashcam on my bike; forward and rear facing, covers most but not all angles, is always on and recordeds to a micro-SD under the seat. Obviously it wont protect from accidents - but it will help find the hit and runner in events such as this and even go as far as highlighting fault in contested situations.
  5. So you were in Thailand 10 days in April 5 days in August 5 days in October (leaving Friday). You want to return on Friday (same day) - I don't see an issue - you have not overstayed and are not staying here for excessive durations. If entering visa exempt ensure you have 20,000 baht cash and an onward ticket (within 30 days) - just incase you are questioned. If questioned be honest, you are here for a holiday but had to deal with something quickly at home.
  6. There seems to be a 'Tablets are the enemy' mentality amongst many.... there is also a somewhat extreme attitude that those parents who allow their children to use tablets are lazy.... Both are easy judgments to make and use the extreme cases to pass judgement on every day normal situations and often do not consider the many factors that parenting involves. Firstly - all children are different and will respond differently to varying stimuli. In our household we have hard limits on how much our son uses his iPad, we know that if we place time limits and specific usage plans on tablets all we are really doing is creating 'scarcity' and through that 'additional demand'.... Our son knows he can pick up the iPad whenever he wants, as such he's just not that bothered about it and while he uses the iPad quite a lot, he also does plenty of other things (i.e. yesterday he was on the iPad for 3 hours in the car, once home he didn't use his iPad and was making stuff out of tape & cardboard). The iPad is an amazing learning tool, its not just a device to watch cr@ppy u-Tube videos... there is an incredible wealth of resources. My Son can also watch utter rubbish on his iPad.... because he needs his 'down time' too.... but he's also learned so much from the many educational games, videos and resources. The iPad works wonders when travelling... OR, IF we are out in a restaurant and he's the only child, then why not let him enjoy his iPad while the adults are taking etc... (rhetorical). There are of course extremes.... but those extremes are present on both sides of the iPad debate. Children whose parents will not let them anywhere near an iPad are likely to subject to more stress, rules etc... and they'll miss out on what is very good educational tool. Then there are those whose parents allow kids to be on an iPad all the time, and those kids develop dependency issues. Reasonable balance is required and with that teaching responsibility - we encourage our son to manage his own time on his iPad and he can tell when he's been using it too much, or we'll ask him the question.
  7. Rounding up / down... It's what we do in the adult world for ease of communication...
  8. Op... First things first - If you don't recognise the transaction, cancel the card. Secondly, you should be able to get more information from the Bank... Dig for more information and you should get it. Also, double check your subscriptions, some can auto renew at a higher price unless cancelled etc. There are some that sometimes catch me out. ------ As far as others discussing credit cards and Bank accounts etc here... it seems there is a lot of paranoia about, but really, using local Credit Cards, Banking Apps, PromptPay etc here - no issues... We use Credit cards mostly (racks up the air-miles), there is fraudulent activity on my Wife's card about 2-3 times per year, its easily dealt with (I suspect on of the online shopping sites is responsible).
  9. +1 ... and to add to this the ineffectiveness of the ASEAN to self police, agreements were put in place (Asean Agreement on Transboundary haze pollution), but yearly, massive areas are burned. ... A lot of the Air-pollution in Thailand originates from Neighbouring countries, yet from an international perspective little is done to lobby other governments to deal with this issue. Myanmar and Indonesia are huge culprits.
  10. Always for me too. It certainly makes sense to 'shop around'... and check different options off against each other. I've just paid 12,000 for 3 nights through agoda (hotel in Thailand) when purchasing from outside of Thailand, the same hotel (Wife checking online (from within Thailand) was 5000 baht more... They couldn't (wouldn't) compete with Agoda pricing. IF the prices are similar, I believe we may get a better room (of same tier) if booking direct with the hotel.
  11. As mentioned, in my experience (having owned black and white cars at the same time) it makes literally no discernible difference. But if someone wants to argue they can feel a difference I am not going to challenge them. Given the amount of glass in a car I would say the metal colour is not a big deal. Exactly... Tint would play a far bigger factor than colour of the car. As already mentioned, interior colour may make a greater difference than external colour. And.... as already mentioned by numerous people - AC comes on quickly and is effective making the whole debate somewhat moot. As far as 'being seen easier at night'... If people were really that bothered about the issue we'd be driving around in luminous cars... We don't.... a night we see the lights of any other vehicle well before we get to see what colour it is. Eh? How can colour be a status thing? Black cars don't cost more than other colours. Agreed... this one also struck me as one of those 'out there statements' that make no sense whatsoever.
  12. Au contraire, the comment itself was clearly a targeted slur with the implication that Trans' partner is dark skinned. This highlights either a deliberate lack of comprehension or stupidity.
  13. Oh really, I thought it had to do with transgender. Perhaps do less of the thinking.... you're giving yourself away.
  14. Outside humidity does not affect the temperature inside the car. And if you think it's all desert there, try 42 deg C and 90% RH. Quite common in the coastal regions around Aug-Sep. You'll get wet within 2 minutes just walking from your house to the car. In making those flawed assumptions its clear Lopburi3 has not spent any time in the Middle East ... In the midst of summer the humidity in the whole of the gulf region is unbearable and forces the heat index to skyrocket.
  15. Attempt at somewhat of a racist dig ??... poor form wouldn't you say ?
  16. Your command of English clearly needs some improvement - its obvious to anyone that Trans means the cars he has owned in Thailand over his time here.
  17. I bet you are the life and soul of the party !!!... Now... on the avoidance thing... you are wrong... Using knowledge and loopholes to avoid paying tax is perfectly fair, its what everyone (with a brain) does. PMSL !!!.... 'those in government positions working tirelessly' ???? IF any government authority were burdened with 'competition' we'd see very clearly how effectively and tirelessly they work !!!... they'd be shut down very quickly as the competition takes over - the very reason 'government authorities' and the civil service are such cushy numbers is because of the very absence of drive with pushes forward every other industry.
  18. This comment alone rings quite true. In Thailand and outside of Thailand, in a professional setting or personal, I have found that in General Thai's struggle more so than any other nationality I've worked with an had exposure to when it comes to handling any form of criticism, constructive or otherwise. In many cases they simply do not have the emotional tools to handle criticism and in nearly all cases any form of criticism is handled extremely poorly. As for the rest - The Op (Bob Smith) received poor and surly service... most probably due to the area being one of 'high monger footfall' and that the average customer is perhaps not so polite either... ... i.e. area's which attract the 'dregs' are generally serviced by the 'dregs' Thats not to suggest that Bob is 'the dregs' - just that the area was likely to be quite s#itty and the staff in the area more familiar with avoiding the P's, Q's and general niceties more commonly found in 'better' area's.
  19. Indeed... I've had numerous cars here in Thailand... some dark some light... I can't really say that I noticed any difference, they all cool down well with AC.
  20. Is it ?.... why is it at some times of the year the Air-quality in Bangkok is very good ?.... the vehicle usage doesn't vary throughout the year. From solely an Air-pollution perspective, I believe Bangkok's air quality woes to be caused by much more than ICE vehicles. It could be argued that IF Thailand were to go 100% EV we would still witness the yearly spike in air pollution which coincides with burning in Thailand and neighbouring countries and cooler (more dense) weather I like EV's and think they are excellent for built up areas. But, I don't think EV's are the solution to cutting down pollution on a global scale, particularly where atmospheric CO2 is concerned where carbon capture technologies could be put to better use.
  21. Khun LA will quote pulp fiction on you for that blasphemy !!!
  22. Same here… I guess it depends where you are, what you are doing & how you get around. Ride a motorcycle in flip-flops ? No way… Walk around BKK (or any city) in flip-flops?… no.
  23. A ‘gone native’ thread discusses chilling & not having to wear shoes & a tie…. … I thought I’d be reading about driving like a nutter or the ultimate going native….. ‘eating insects’ !! (yes… I’ve seen westerners in a Thai office eating insects & offering them around with a sense of ‘look at how I’ve adopted Thai culture’ pride, much to the horror of the office cuties hiding behind their hello kitty adorned computer monitors while wearing ‘animal feet shaped croc type things’ & a grannies cardigans ‘cos the AC is ‘nao-maaaak’ !!!! )…
  24. Thai's - frightened to death of any form of competition... If they were doing their jobs properly, competition would mean nothing. I see this as a fair, humane and common sense response from Thai Authorities. They eased restrictions for Covid, good move. With this easing of restrictions Russians will spend more money here which helps the local economy. Of course, the are also negative aspects such as driving up prices, but who really is 'driving up the prices' ??? - its the locals profiteering, so they have no right to complain.
  25. 'Cos they had x-ray vision and could tell there was pork inside, right ? Superpowers !!!... reckon they could bang 72 virgins in one go ?
